    In-Port Safety & Sustainability Development Co-Ordinator

    Job Description:

    • This role reports into the Technical Service Unit
    • The incumbent will be responsible for leading and supporting implementation and coordinating the Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental policies, management plans, standards and systems at all In-Ports sites. The role also ensures implementation, co-ordination and maintenance of Group Standards and is responsible for overseeing incident investigations.

     Your role will include:

    Manage Safety Risks

    • Creates and embeds solutions to positively impact safety, minimise future risk and encourage individual accountability
    • Co-ordinate and participate in Risk Assessments for the In-Ports operations.
    • Lead / Participate in relevant incident investigations.
    • Report on all incidents externally and internally. Track, monitor,
    • investigate and analyse Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental statistics and other information to ensure risk areas are identified.

    Section Engineering Manager - TMM

    Job Description:

    • The role holder will be responsible for creating a high-performance culture and leading the Underground TMM and Fixed Plant Engineering & Maintenance team to effectively deliver on the set production and respective business continuity targets through an integrated value chain.
    • The role holds legal accountability with a 2.13.1 appointment in terms of the MHSA, responsible for the overall safe operation and maintenance of underground Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM), fixed plant equipment, and infrastructure.
    • This includes underground infrastructure, vertical shaft infrastructure, and associated surface infrastructure at Venetia Mine. This position will be supported by Section Engineers under a 2.13.3.1 appointment.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

    • Ensure legal, safety, environmental and hygiene standards are complied with and maintained within area of responsibility.
    • Interpret organisational requirements for the section, to compile and develop a risk log with appropriate mitigation solutions that align with short, medium- and long-term Strategic Business Plan objectives.
    • Implement policies and develop procedures to ensure adherence to SHE, Engineering and Operational standards.
    • Allocate and manage the utilisation of financial resources and value add to optimise engineering availability and life cycle management of equipment.
    • Management and co-ordination of team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans.
    • Stakeholder management: liaison with maintenance, operational & support function personnel to derive and execute fit for purpose engineering solutions according to sound risk management practices.
    • Direct the development, motivation and utilisation of human resources for the section to ensure a competent knowledge base for continued success within area of responsibility.
    • Coordinate the development, management and enhancement of maintenance strategies and plans to ensure optimal uptime and reliability of equipment within area of responsibility. (i.e. Fixed plant: Blue, Pink and Red Areas)
    • Development of appropriate engineering maintenance and project systems to support strategic plans.
    • Management of project and construction activities within area of responsibility.
    • Ensure equipment maintenance strategies are operationalised into effective work packages and tactics. 
    • Ensure all work is planned, scheduled, executed and monitored and all legal appointment/ statutory requirements are executed.
    • Implement critical Plant and Equipment strategies / tactics and ensure that these deliver to the defined availability, reliability and cost / operated hour within the lifecycle model and production plan.

    Qualifications:

    The successful incumbent must meet the following criteria:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent.
    • Government Certificate of Competency (Mines)
    • Minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in underground Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM), vertical shaft infrastructure, and major underground infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to main pump stations, degritters, MV and LV electrical reticulation, ventilation fans, and ventilation and water doors.

    REQUIRED SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:

    • Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Proven ability in asset management with a demonstrated history of turning around under-performing Plant
    • Proven ability in capital project management
    • Proven ability in minimising operational and business risk management
    • Proven ability in engineering risk identification and hazard mitigation

    Superintendent Projects - SIB

    Job Description:

    PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS:

    • The Projects Superintendent role is responsible for the scope, plan and delivery of the operation stay-in-business (SIB) projects.
    • This position will entail overseeing the planning and delivery of the project / scope of work assigned for the operations.
    • The role will include evaluating and outsourcing of projects via EPCM/EPC/Turnkey project possibilities and other.
    • Projects will be delivered sustainably on time, costs and to standard.

    KEY RESULT AREAS:

    The successful candidate will be required to:

    • Ensures compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and best practices
    • Effective safety leadership and behaviour modelling for the project team, contractors and construction workforce
    • The development of an integrated plan (for the scope of work) incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions and in line with Anglo American standards
    • Set-up of required controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter

    • Maintain discipline alignment with Key Stakeholders, Principal Engineers, Specialist Discipline Engineers and Section Engineering Managers.
    • Support successful project delivery within cost and schedule baselines.
    • Assure that all fabrication and construction quality standards are met.
    • Enhance and maintain integration and teamwork between the various technical disciplines and appointed engineering consultants
    • Responsible for compiling and approval of cost estimates for projects (Working Cost and Capital) prior to submission for approval.

    Responsible to supply monthly cashflow forecasts to the Programme Manager and Finance Team in line with the monthly SIB Calendar deliverables.

    • Manage and control the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to approved budgeted expenditure and change management.
    • Assess the legal and pemitting requirements to be implemented within project responsibility area.
    • Provide technical consulting services for the operation related to specialisation and project execution discipline, incliding Risk Reviews and Risk Mitigation Controls.
    • Manage project team resources (project labour, client relationships and partners).
    • Project, construction, and operational experience in the mining industry.
    • Technical areas including Electrical, Control and Instrumentation, Metallurgy, Project Engineering.

    Construction / Engineering project management

    • Contractor Performance Management will be a key attribute to the success of the role.

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)

    • Grade 12 certificate, or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
    • BTech/Degree Mechanical/ Electrical/ Process Engineering with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in Project, Construction, and operational experience in the mining industry
    • Qualification in Project Management is advantageous
    • Valid EB/Code 8 Drivers License
    • Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on mine

    Senior Commercial Manager

    Job Description:

    • The purpose of this role is to lead and strategically manage the commercial functions of the company (inclusive of the finance & supply chain functions), ensuring financial integrity, appropriate pricing, cross-border tax compliance, and operational efficiency across finance and supply chain divisions.

    • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external key stakeholders’ regional partners, government entities, and suppliers. Represent the company in commercial negotiations and strategic forums.

    Principal: Geotechnical Engineer

    Job Description:

    • The purpose of this role is to be the overarching subject matter expert and owner for Geotechnical Engineering within De Beers Group, driving the delivery of the Upstream Priority Areas as linked to the De Beers Group Strategy. 
    • A key function of this role is to organise, prepare and deliver geotechnical assurance for the geotechnical discipline with relevant interaction with other mining disciplines.

    Key Tasks:

    Provide expert technical support for both Managed Operations and Non-Managed Joint Venture Operations on the following:

    • Roll-out, embedment and review of relevant standards, frameworks and best practices, managing compliance issues within the relevant managerial and governance frameworks
    • Provide SME input to ensure / enable the operations within De Beers Group Operations manage geotechnical risk effectively
    • Development of geotechnical services strategies focusing on the 1-5yr window, aligned to the Life of Asset Plans of the operations within Operating Model principles and support the operating cost budget requirements. 
    • Provide support and guidance in terms of designs and life of asset plans for operations, inclusive of waste dumps.
    • Review and development of project specifications and design criteria are reflective of minimum requirements and safe and cost-effective manner.
    • Facilitate continuous improvement and modernization at operations aligned to the defined priority areas based on the monitoring of geotechnical key performance indicators, findings and trends.
    • Support the sites on systemic issues related to critical and/or persistent risk and significant projects
    • Support the development of technology roadmaps for the upstream operations.
    • Drive people development within the discipline by identifying knowledge gaps, providing coaching, identifying potential employees, and planning succession for critical roles

    Assurance on behalf of De Beers Group regarding the following:

    • Provide second line and coordinate third line assurance on relevant standards
    • Provide project assurance support, both reviewing projects and assistance with the preparation for external reviews.
    • Review inputs, activities, schedule and cost (Capital and Operational cost) for geotechnical service strategies as defined by operational teams as an input into the business planning cycle and projects.

    Qualifications:

    • Formal qualification/s in Mining, Geology, or Rock Engineering
    • Government ticket of competency - COMREC and/or COMAREC

    Other Requirements:

    • Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness
    • Willingness and ability to travel both locally and internationally on a regular basis

    Experience

    • Demonstrated experience in a senior people leadership role within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing across a discipline, managing workload and reviewing the work of others to ensure consistency with task requirements.
    • Experience in a management position, including the successful strategic management of a large sub-functional team 
    • At least 10 years managerial and/or consulting experience at a senior level in Underground and Open Pit mining.
    • Experience developing and managing geotechnical site investigations
    • Experience in solving underground and open pit challenges

    Knowledge and Technical Skills

    • A demonstrated thought leader and widely regarded external expert in the field of Geotechnical / Rock Engineering, with a particular focus on Underground Hard Rock Environments.
    • Knowledge of other legislation that determines the operational and safety requirements for Mining, Rehabilitation and Mine Closure
    • Knowledge of tender processes, contract administration and financial progress monitoring
    • Knowledge of safety and risk management processes
