    Assistant Contracts Engineer (Lesotho-based) - Fixed Term Contract

    Key Duties:

    Administer construction contracts in accordance with the applicable Conditions of Contract.  In this regard the ACE will provide assistance to the CE’s in the:

    • Interpretation of the Contracts including the processes relating to the adjudication of claims;
    • Evaluation of the need for Variations after due consultation with the Resident Engineers (RE’s), Chief Resident Engineer (CRE) and CE’s;
    • Provision of support with respect to formulation and issue of written instructions to the Contractor after due consultation with the REs, CRE and the CE’s as necessary;
    • Provision of support as necessary to ensure maintenance of construction supervision records and progress reports, technical records (including geotechnical test results) and Instructions, as well as records of all other appropriate site information such as weather, labour etc;
    • Coordination and contributing to the overall reporting requirements on progress, costs, cash flow forecasts, financial reviews and the Contractor’s performance with regard to Preference targets, as well as provision of timeous notification to the Employer of potential deviations from the project objectives;
    • Provision of support and facilitation with the resolution of disputes between the Employer and the Contractor up to and including Notices of Dissatisfaction with Engineer’s determinations.
    • Processes contemplated under Sub-Clause 20.4, post Notices of Dissatisfaction and Sub-Clause 20.5 [Amicable settlement], but including any further preparation for and participation in any legal or arbitration proceedings, where MSKC has been expressly instructed by the Client.

    Required:

    • Experience: Minimum 10 years’ postgraduate experience
    • Should have at least 5 years’ experience as Contracts Management / Quantity Surveyor
    • Should have at least 5 years’ experience in FIDIC contracts

    Minimum requirements to apply:

    Senior Engineer: Industrial Water & Wastewater

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and grow the business, including having the ability to engage with clients, and to identify and pursue potential opportunities within South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East primarily.
    • Delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
    • Promote Hatch’s Industrial Water services across the Industrial Water Sector.
    • Mentor and develop junior engineers within the Industrial Water team.
    • Lead and contribute to engineering studies, designs, reports, and presentations.
    • Manage project scope, budget, staffing, and schedules across Regional offices.
    • Prepare proposals, and client communications.
    • Ensure quality assurance and control throughout project execution.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
    • Delegate tasks effectively and guide team members to successful project delivery.
    • Explore and implement innovative water management solutions.
    • Involvement in upfront concept studies, feasibility studies, testing campaigns.
    • Calculations and chemistry modelling, general process engineering deliverables such as water balances, block flow diagrams, reports.
    • Leading of client meetings for project scope as well as business development.
    • Integration with Hatch teams on projects and business development (mining, metals, advisory, energy etc.).
    • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria.
    • Engage with clients at all levels.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Essential

    • A recognized Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited university.
    • Professional Engineer registered with Engineering Council of South Africa.
    • 10+ years’ experience in relevant engineering design.
    • Ability to manage and delegate to individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives.
    • Experience with working on projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.
    • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.
    • Good commercial and contractual understanding of both construction contracts and professional services contracts.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Good planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
    • Good safety awareness.
    • Must have Industrial Water & Waste Water Treatment process experience.
    • Willing to travel to various Client site locations, valid passport.

    Preferred

    • Must be capable of solving Water & Waste Water Treatment problems by understanding all applicable disciplines and must be able to integrate design inputs.
    • The person should preferable enjoy being client facing.
    • Ideally should have an interest in Business Development.
