What will you do?
- Reporting to the SRS Financial Manager, the Financial Accountant will support the finance operations of the SRS business. The Financial Accountant is responsible for effective cost management within the SLS governance framework (including actual cost, budgeting and forecasting), day-to-day procure to pay process, month-end income statement and balance sheet reconciliations or analysis, journal processing, credit card reconciliations, compilation of scorecard, capturing of Risk schedules and Financial losses on the Sanlam Risk management system, as well as any other financial tasks listed below.
The key responsibilities of the role include the following:
- Effective cost management and reporting
- Monthly variance analysis and cost investigations
- Monthly cost reporting to business unit Head of Departments
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Monthly update of HR file and IT MIS report reconciliation to general ledger. Variance to be communicated and resolved within a timely manner.
- Solving financial enquiries, investigations and problems on time and in an effective manner.
- Ensure effective controls and procedures are in place to adhere to approval framework.
- Administration, planning and organising of work to ensure successful and on time delivery.
- Process journals on SAP, including provisions and accrual transactions.
- Approve payments in accordance with the SRS approval framework on SAP.
- Support business with SAP 4 Hana (which includes MDG Support on creating materials, etc.).
- Pro-active management and control of accounts – i.e. GR/IR and Down Payments.
- Attend to credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare input to yearly budget process and connect with Business heads to provide any changes, as required.
- Yearly load of new budgets and monthly load of forecast to SAP.
- Report in-force units and policies.
- Compile (obtain, supply input and address outstanding items) the following documentation on a quarterly basis:
- SRS Scorecard
- SRS Risk Register
- SRS Financial losses
- SRS Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) report
- Assist with FCA models and cost allocation investigations when needed.

What you'll achieve in the first 12 months
- Complete the first version of a Sanlam FinTech Friendly Data Design (e.g. conceptual and logical model plus ubiquitous language). Work across product and business managers, backend and data engineers, individual contributors and team leads to accumulate a critical mass of team knowledge about both our domain model and how that relates to our source data landscape. Apply this knowledge to develop a simplified conceptual and logical model, map the entities to their source system origin tables, and distill our domain specific languages into a common ubiquitous language.
- Have friendly data tables for the five most consumed domain events in SFT (i.e. Fact tables) that act as the single authoritative representation of those events for across the company. Bring the five most needed domain events from the friendly data design to life in Snowflake by physically modelling them to complete the design process, and executing to build highly reliable data products using DBT that the entire company can rely on.
- Enable alignment and interoperability across all of Sanlam’s data: Work across the company with other data product teams to facilitate alignment on design principles, language, and production standards.
- Coach and mentor other analytics engineers and business analysts across the company: Help modernize the practice of preparing data for learning at Sanlam. Coach junior and mid engineers to improve their already strong code quality and analytical solving. - Manage and report on NTUs (clients Not Taken Up) by putting controls in place, and taking corrective actions where required.
- Manage persistency of client payments in favour of both the branch and the client.
- Gain insight into client risk profiles to proactively identify where support will be required.
- Consult with clients on alternative payment arrangements and ensure it gets processed through and noted on the right platforms.
- Responsible for in-branch servicing in line with client experience standards:
- Apply product knowledge to accurately guide clients through policy cancellations and provide alternative options.
- Resolve various types of client queries in the branch as far as possible or escalate queries to the right stakeholders by using the existing escalation framework. Follow up on the status and continuously provide feedback to the client.
Quality, Compliance and Continuous Development:
- Remain up to date with and continuously adhere to compliance and quality standards.
- Keep up to date with own registration, product knowledge and maintenance of own CPD points.
- Identify risks and flag potentially fraudulent activities.
- Keep and store relevant records of advice.
- Log all activities as per regulations and standard operating procedures, and provide data to relevant stakeholders to inform reporting and decision making
Monthly Planning and Reporting:
- Responsible for reporting on activities daily, through using relevant technology platforms.
- Collate data on activities to deliver on weekly and monthly reporting deadlines.
- Perform any ad-hoc requirements as requested by the Retail Branch Manager
Qualification and Experience:
- 1-year experience in a sales or marketing capacity
- Experience within insurance branches an advantage
- Matric (Grade 12)
- RE5 advantageous
- FAIS Compliant (Wealth Management) as per DOFA requirements.
- Class of Business training (to be completed within 12-months of employment
