    Senior Electrical Technician

    Description

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Senior Electrical Technician to provide expert high-level technical support to the Electrical and related departments, specifically relating to plant optimization, plant automation, electrical reticulation, and fault diagnosis to maximize the plant's availability.

    As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for:

    • Administer and ensure compliance with accepted standards
    • Responsible for the maintenance of all PLC and SCADA Installations and Profibus Networks.  Perform system backups. Implementation and commissioning of electrical and PLC system-related projects
    • Ensures that all modifications/projects conform fully to Mill Change Management Procedures, Mill Standard Specifications, Mill Safety Standards, and the OHS Act
    • Optimisation of plant performance and control characteristics to maintain high plant availability
    • Review equipment in line with technological advancement within the industry on an ongoing basis
    • Explore quality products at reduced costs in the event of replacement
    • Fault-finding malfunctions of field devices and system components with the aid of electrical drawings and test equipment
    • Proficiency in specialist areas such as BQS, BCU, PLCs, VFD’s, HV and LV reticulation and Protection Equipment, Power Generator, and Auxiliary Equipment
    • Provides on-going training to personnel to perform specific tasks on new equipment, completed projects, and maintenance of equipment. Operator training (limitations due to system interlocks/sequences explained).
    • Manages varied multi-disciplinary plant modifications/project work from concept to commissioning and closeout

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma or B Tech in Electrical Engineering
    • 5 years of industrial experience in PLC / Profibus knowledge and experience in heavy industrial electrical equipment and systems

    Instrument Mechanician

    As an Instrument Mechanician, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintain plant instrumentation in good working condition by completing scheduled maintenance as per SAP works order
    • Perform all required calibrations according to the standard work instructions and fill in the calibration sheets
    • Maintain a good knowledge of field instruments, instrumentation drawings, plant layout, plant process, and availability of procedures to allow for quick and accurate fault finding
    • Adhere to conditions of employment by performing standby, overtime, and shift work when required
    • Complete instrument installation and modification required according to the set standards
    • Update and maintain SAP Notifications of work orders by capturing failure codes and repair codes on the notification and completing the order once work is completed
    • Complete plant inspections in his or her area reports and rectify faults found
    • Assist the Instrument Superintendent in the skills development of apprentices and trainees

    • Grade 12 with an N3 Engineering 
    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as an Instrument Mechanician

    Engineer: Technical Support (Reliability)

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Technical Support Engineer: Reliability to apply analysis methods to determine the reliability of components, equipment, and processes of the Mill’s operations, and assist in formulating and implementing asset management strategies. Deliver recommendations to improve equipment reliability.

    As a Technical Support Engineer: Reliability, you will be responsible for:

    • Monitor and refine the asset maintenance plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks; Effective utilisation of predictive, proactive, condition-based, and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
    • Drive SAP maturity and ensure adherence to maintenance standards and business processes with a special focus on asset utilisation, planning preparation, and maintenance execution
    • Undertake detailed analysis of the plant/assets to develop and drive strategies and recommendations that will improve the reliability and performance of the plant, system, maintenance effectiveness, and optimising life cycle costs
    • Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop, maintain, and compile asset reliability, criticality, and condition information necessary for the asset planning, delivery, and maintenance strategies as well as capital spending
    • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the relevant statutory documentation and standards
    • Assist the maintenance planning team to develop effective asset care strategies, standards, schedules, and task instructions, through accurate data analysis and reporting
    • Develop engineering solutions and drive the implementation thereof, for repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include safety, capacity, run rate, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance issues using renewal or maintenance capital funds
    • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through compliance with legal regulations and mill procedures
    • Participate in compiling and implementing annual and long-term (5-year plan) financial business plans to execute the maintenance and improvement strategy

     What are we looking for?

    • Relevant NQF level 7 qualification (Mechanical Engineering degree or related equivalent)
    • Government certificate of competence (Factories) considered advantageous
    • MDP or relevant management qualification advantageous
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a heavy industry environment
    • Pulp and paper experience will be considered advantageous
    • RCM, TPM, and or/lean manufacturing experience will be considered advantageous

    Boiler and Turbine Specialist

    As a Boiler and Turbine Specialist, you will be responsible to:

    • Review critical performance parameters on a daily basis, actioning any deviations from specifications and keeping a historical account of operating parameters, monitoring  for long term potential deviations
    • Optimise the performance of turbine generators and boilers and produce monthly reports on unit performances
    • Address operating parameters out of specification through technical adjustments
    • Manage and develop long term strategies for boiler life extensions
    • Review and inspect the operating units  for efficient functionality addressing any potential risks to uninterrupted runability
    • Identify improvement opportunities and coordinate trial initiatives
    • Manage and support mills with annual shutdowns and boiler maintenance requirements as well as service level agreements with suppliers
    • Mentor and guide employees in understanding the operating principles of boiler and turbine units
    • Assist with problem solving and corrective action including the facilitation, initiation and participation in team based problem solving
    • Develop best operating practices for boiler and componant optimisation for development and sustainability
    • Stay abreast of international standards and trends to ensure latest technology evaluation at all times

    What are we looking for?

    • BSc Chemical /Mechanical / Electrical Engineering would be considered advantageous while other relevant qualifications will also be considered
    • 10 years of Process engineering experience in specific relation to combustion with a minimum of 5 years’ engineering experience in Energy networks, Turbines, Boilers and or Environmental management.

    Planning Superintendent

    Description

    We Are Hiring: Planning Superintendent

    • The Planning Superintendent is responsible for establishing and sustaining a robust maintenance planning, shutdown planning, failure analysis, and maintenance performance reporting infrastructure at Ngodwana Mill, supporting the mill’s journey toward becoming a World Class Business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Shutdown Planning & Execution: Coordinate and maintain the mill shutdown schedule, ensuring effective forward planning and strict compliance with the Shutdown Business Process by managing planners and coaching engineers.
    • Work Management & Planning: Establish and sustain effective weekly and daily planning processes to ensure optimal control of work in progress.
    • Preventative Maintenance Management: Maintain and continuously improve preventative maintenance plans in SAP R/3 through regular audits and schedule optimisation.
    • Failure Analysis & Reliability Improvement: Implement and manage structured failure analysis frameworks, including documentation, flowcharts, and supporting tools.
    • Corrective Maintenance & Quality Control: Develop and manage repetitive task lists, Quality Control Procedures (QCPs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and SAP R/3 master data to improve job quality and spares availability.
    • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Provide accurate weekly maintenance and engineering performance reports to Engineering, Maintenance, and Planning & Development management.
    • Training & Systems Coaching: Act as an SAP PM coach by training and advising users on best-practice system usage, including rotable control and the rotable repair cycle, and auditing compliance.
    • People Development & MDT Support: Build, develop, and maintain competent, motivated teams while providing effective support to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).
