Core purpose of the role
- The main purpose of this role is to support business and the strategic sourcing function in allocated Category by proactively seeking and implementing opportunities for value added procurement through modelling and analytical capabilities. The incumbent is responsible for facilitating improvements, streamlining processes, monitoring and benchmarking and remaining up to date with industry trends and relevant economic and business factors. Key Outputs
- Carry out scheduled and preventative maintenance and repairs as per OEM requirements.
- Systematic and efficiently troubleshoot and diagnose machine systems problems and carry out repairs on earthmoving equipment on customer sites.
- Compile accurate customer machine reports that include failure analysis, condition, service, Machine Inspection Reports (MIR’s) and Technical Analysis reports (TA’s).
- Maintain professional image when representing BWE.
- Work on specific customer sites as per customer requirements (Man on Hire) when required.
- Ensure complying to safe work practices when working on machines.
- Maintain and control Contamination Control Standards.
- Responsible and Control of own admin (labour booking, service reports, part returns, expenses etc.)

Qualification, Experience and Competencies
- Qualified in relevant trade (e.g. Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic) NQF 3
- Minimum 7 years post qualification experience on earthmoving machines (Minimum 5 years Caterpillar experience)
- Caterpillar Machine specific technical knowledge and skills (Caterpillar Certification an advantage)
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills
- Good technical report writing
- Good Computer Literacy (SIS, STW & ET) knowledge, Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Applicable fundamental product knowledge (Caterpillar).

Key Outputs
- Provide labour requirements for dragline services
- Manage and allocate functions of direct and indirect reports
- Provide technical expertise on dragline repairs and rebuilds during services and shutdowns
- Implement and manage quality control
- Build and maintain customer relations
- Manage progress and timelines during dragline services and shutdowns
- Liaise with planning department to prepare quotes, WIP and invoices for area of responsibility

Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Qualified artisan
- Minimum 10 years dragline experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Supervisory role
- Experience in the management of dragline shutdown work
- Well experienced in dragline Troubleshooting
- Basic management qualification would be beneficial - SDP or MDP
- Knowledge of MS Projects and other MS Office programs
- Good communication (written, verbal and presentation) and effective negotiation skills
- Experience in quality control
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Ability to show initiative by thinking creatively
- It would be a requirement to travel time to time and work away from home
- Medically fit and able to obtain a Certificate of Fitness
- Code EB drivers’ licence
