Job Description
- IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this “mine of the future”.
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Grade 12
- Diploma in Mine Surveying or equivalent.
- Advanced skills in the use of mine survey software
- Have report writing and articulation of work skills
- Statutory survey requirements
- Survey relevant legislation
- Highly computer literate
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
- 5 years’ mine surveying experience, with experience in mine survey roles in underground mine surveying
- At least 2 years’ experience on a fully mechanised underground operation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Capturing and compiling data in accordance with the required standards and facilitating the drafting of Mine Plans.
- Completing End of Month Surveys on site and assisting with the reporting requirements
- Maintaining the site survey equipment in good working order and regularly updating software and firmware
- Maintaining a high standard data control system
- Providing field support for exploration, and other project-type activities
- Participates in “safety talk” sessions as assigned at the beginning of each working day
- Adheres to the company HSE rules and procedures throughout the working day, and undertakes necessary maintenance remedial action in accordance with laid down company rules
- Reports any HSE incidents to relevant authorities immediately, and provides evidence of incidents witnessed, during investigations
- Carries out housekeeping in area of responsibility to ensure a safe and secure work environment
- Implements action items arising from HSE audits by taking corrective actions on identified deviations
- Enforcement of Company Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure safe working environment

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
- Experience in computer-aided design and drafting (CAD)
- Draw manually favourable, but not essential
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Capturing and compiling data in accordance with the required standards and facilitating the drafting of Update working plans on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis
- Quality draughting services
- Collate all information required for the compliance of hard copy plans and digital copies for DMPR submission for the responsible areas
- Create and maintain responsibility plans for underground and surface
- Supply plans and portions of plans, as and when required, to other Departments
- Update Mine rescue, maintain master plan geology, ventilation, RME, engineering features on the plans
- Preparing, reviewing and redrafting alongside the Survey team
- Ensuring final designs are compliant with DMPR legislation regulations
- Identifying and communicating potential design problems to the rest of the team
- Compliance and application of Sect 22 and 23 of the Mine Health and Safety Act
- Always observing health and safety regulations.

- Surveying underground workings advances as per mine design parameters, stockpiles and dumps for plan updates and volumetric calculations
- Setting out mining limits to guide mine development and stopping to comply with mine design
- Performing depletions, analysing and interpreting survey related information to determine total ore flow
- Validating production information and reconciling with survey measurements for official reporting
- Determining appropriate survey method and implementing survey monitoring systems for structural deformation
- Acquiring and analysing spatial data from the system for integrity, movements of original ground and structural deformation behaviour and informs the relevant stakeholders
- Ensuring compliance to best practice survey standards, data collection, quality control and assurance systems
- Adheres to the company HSE rules and procedures throughout the working day, and undertakes necessary maintenance remedial action in accordance with laid down company rules
