KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the provision of all continuous water and sanitation service to the public throughout the allocated depot area. In close consultation with UFW Department ensure that unaccounted for water is kept to an acceptable minimum by managing all leaks and repairs.
- Ensure that all relevant records are kept for the entire Depot.
- Manage the installation, replacement, and testing of water meters to ensure compliance with National and Johannesburg Water standards.
- Direct the development of a preventative maintenance programme for the entire water and sewer reticulation system – including large valves PRV’s and outfall sewers served by the depot area. Responsible for the efficient management of complaints received. In conjunction with the Ops, managers manage the response times.
- Interpret, and advise the Regional Manager on public needs, concerns and criticism in relation to the functional responsibility of the region. Plan, propose and implement proactive measures and responses to public needs. Consult stakeholders in respect of functional areas of the region.
- Co-ordinate and advice the Regional Manager on all matters relating to water and sanitation services. Attend Regional service delivery meetings and ensure that decisions taken are being implemented and resolved. Ensure sound labour relations practices and management of discipline.
- Manage personnel in accordance with Johannesburg Water policies and legislation. Ensure the implantation of performance management as per the policy.
- Assist with the preparation of the operating budget. Ensure cost-efficient use of materials. Ensure compliance with the OHSACT and Johannesburg Water policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in cleaning tanks by manually using spades and rakes to remove debris into solid waste bins. Clean the weirs of tanks with brooms. Assist in removing weeds and debris from the centre boxes and walls of tanks. Assist in cleaning disinfection tanks by removing settled sludge physically. Assist in general operations and maintenance.
- Clean up sludge spillages and loading it into solid waste bins. Remove dry sludge from sludge drying beds manually for mechanical removal. Routine cleaning of offices, toilets facilities and change rooms. Routine cleaning of pump stations and working areas. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Clear and clean work area after malfunctions and spillages. Assist in general physical work when needed to ensure Work’s compliance with legislation and standards. Promote safety by immediately rectifying unsafe working conditions or equipment and reporting this to Supervisor.
- Follow instructions by Supervisor regarding Disaster Management plan. Operate and carry out all work within the statutory requirements as laid out in the OHASA as per instructions from Supervisor. Wear and ensure proper use of PPE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Investigation of Waste Water Treatment Works capacity in order to support the development of CoJ. Identify the need for major treatment capacity expansion projects for WWTW by monitoring and projecting sewage flows, estimating cost and ensure that budget provision is timeously in place for implementation. Investigate the condition of existing WWTW facilities and implement solutions where necessary in accordance with JW’s Asset Management Strategy.
- Investigate, prioritise and estimate costs of projects, draw up and update annually a 5-year infrastructure repair/ replacement programme. Implement the programme by ensuring budget provision is in place. Appoint and manage external consultants for investigations of WWTW infrastructure.
- Generate capital projects; Submit details of Works related capital projects on the annual capital programme: create revisions of proposed budgets. Develop and maintain annual, 3 and 5-year Capital Programme for Wastewater Treatment Infrastructure; identify, prioritise, estimate costs and incorporate them into budgets. Project initiation and monitoring of WWTW Capital Projects. Develop and compile WWTW Capital Budget for annual, 3 and 5-year Capital Budgets.
- Ensure compliance with relevant company policies and procedures. Attend external infrastructure-related forums: Promote, present and defend JW and CoJ interests. Provide required inputs for JW’s contribution to the Water Services Development Plan and to the CoJ’s Integrated Development Plans and Land Development Objectives. Manage resources to ensure effective and efficient strategic planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor contractors and consultants in terms of the contract document, General Conditions of Contract (GCC), specifications and other legislative requirements. Check progress, approve and process payment certificates submitted by contractors and consultants. Conduct site visits to check if work is undertaken according to plans.

- Monitor the quality of the activities on projects, consultants, contractors, and all stakeholders throughout the duration of a project. Ensure overall compliance with Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management. Identify and quantify project risks.
- Develop and implement mitigation plans. Check the close-out report compiled by the consultant to ensure that all the elements of the project have been recorded. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the operations of a treatment works so that the effluent produced complies with the special standards of the National Water Act and license conditions (legal requirements). Check compliance daily when laboratory results are received. Make operational changes in time to prevent non-compliance conditions. In the event of non-compliance, make the required changes to improve the quality of effluent, sludge treatment and disposal. Identify causes and put checks and procedures in place on the process to prevent recurring non-compliances. Manage operational changes on a daily basis based on information from online analyzers and results obtained from the Laboratory. Manage the sludge disposal daily to meet the requirements of the sludge disposal guidelines. Manage possible pollution and health risks. Planning, executing and managing all operations, shutdowns and breakdowns in the Works. Responsible for staff meetings and operational training.
- Plan the shift and standby timetables monthly and in six months. Manage the operation of the SCADA system. Develop in-house training courses on operational and process aspects. Provide the necessary information for internal and external auditors.
- Do follow-up reports and action corrective action. Manage and control costs on electricity, chemicals, overtime, fuel, vehicles etc. Carry out responsibilities in compliance with all criteria as set out in the OHS Act. Report faulty equipment to the maintenance section via the SAP defect system.
- Follow up on the progress of urgent repairs influencing the compliance of effluent. Advise maintenance staff on the urgency of the relevant equipment to the process and the effects on effluent quality and sludge treatment and disposal operations. Assist with the investigation of alternative methods of operations and chemicals that achieve equal or better results to sustain affordable treatment practices.
