What You'll Do

• Lead Financial Operations: Manage monthly general ledger close processes and supervise operational reporting functions
• Strategic Planning: Design, implement, and monitor financial policies in alignment with divisional and group strategies
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team including Financial Accountants, Management Accountants, Finance admin clerks
• Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to IFRS and relevant legislation while preparing timely monthly and annual accounts
• Budget Management: Consolidate annual budgets and forecasts, review departmental plans against business objectives
• Financial Analysis: Provide insightful financial analysis, variance reports, and strategic recommendations to support decision-making
• Continuous Improvement: Identify cost-reduction opportunities and drive efficiency improvements across the finance function
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal/external auditors and support the CFO on key strategic projects

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Education: Tertiary qualification in Accounting/Finance
• Experience: 5-8 years of relevant finance experience with at least 5 years managing a finance team
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial management processes
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Qualification: CA(SA) or equivalent chartered accounting qualification
• Industry Experience: Media or related industry exposure

Key Responsibilities:

• Process invoices by accurately matching them through the electronic ordering system and ensuring
• they have received the necessary approvals before processing.
• Ensure all invoices received comply with VAT regulations.
• Reconcile invoices against supplier statements and payment advice.
• Investigate and resolve outstanding invoices and other reconciling items.
• Prepare and process payments to creditors and on-demand vendors.
• Ensure payments are made correctly and within agreed terms
• Maintain an organized and efficient filing system for accounting data, records, contracts, and invoices.
• Handle and process employee claims on a weekly basis.
• Prepare periodic reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules as required.
• Assist in preparing monthly accounting schedules and reports in compliance with audit requirements.
• Ad hoc Finance administration.

Key Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role within accounts payable, ideally with a focus on local creditors
• A relevant qualification in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred (e.g., Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail in financial processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve discrepancies or payment issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, with a proactive approach to work.

Minimum requirements:

• Relevant degree/diploma in e.g. languages, media studies or journalism;
• At least 5-10 years’ experience in a sub-editing role in a news environment, preferably digital;
• Proven competence in the fluent use of English;
• Excellent general knowledge;
• A good understanding of local and international financial news and the political economy;
• A passion for breaking news;
• A strong ability to check figures and ensure those figures correspond to the context of a story;
• Comfort subbing text on graphics;
• Sound knowledge of editorial principles and journalism ethics;
• Knowledge of media law and best practice, as well as the Press Code.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Ensure quality of the final product is of the highest standard, consistent with the brand and style of News24;
• Copy-editing, headline writing and revise editing;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, over some weekends and on some public holidays on a roster system;
• Has to work well with reporters to provide constant feedback.

• A relevant tertiary qualification
• Proven experience as a multimedia journalist in a reputable newsroom
• Excellent technical multimedia knowledge and skills

• Creating multimedia content suited to Netwerk24’s marke
• Identifying multimedia ideas that will appeal to Netwerk24's market
