    Senior Capital and Investment Specialist (RoA)

    Job Description

    The role is jointly within the Investment Strategy and Capital team which is part of the broader Group Balance Sheet Management (GBSM) team. The incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of the OML Capital Management Policy and OML Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) Framework across the Rest of Africa (RoA), with the aim of optimising capital structures and maximising the risk-adjusted returns on shareholder assets. The incumbent will also be responsible for the management of the asset strategy as implemented for Guaranteed Assets in RoA (Rest of Africa)

    The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question. 

     

    The candidate is expected to deliver the following across the RoA (Rest of Africa) segment:

    • Drive the implementation of the OML’s Capital Management Policy and SAA Framework and ensure senior executive buy-in.

    • Optimise capital structures (including solvency target setting) across different legal entities and regulatory frameworks.

    • Derive and implement investment mandates per legal entity.

    • Derive transition strategy for Entities and monitor adherence.

    • Design and plan capital initiatives (e.g. dividends, debt issuance) to improve efficiency and meet group targets.

    • Advise on repositioning portfolios and drive the reporting requirements.

    • Analyse investment ideas for any tactical deviations in order to drive shareholder value creation in the shareholder portfolios.

    • Analyse commercial aspects of capital investments, and new and existing products;

    • Ensure all reporting requirements are met in terms of monthly performance, business planning and forecasting including Investor Relations.

    • Track investment performance, including setting benchmarks and performance targets, setting risk limits and assist in negotiating asset management fees.

    • Ensure appropriate credit strategies are adhered to

    • Stay abreast of local regulatory and macro-economic environment per country that OML operates in ensuring appropriate capital and investment strategies developed for local market

    • Attendance/membership of relevant committees such as Investment Committees, Capital Management Committee

     

    Technical experience required                   

    • Strong capital and/or investment background.

    • Ability to collaborate across the Group with various stakeholders.

    • Fund management / Portfolio management experience an advantage

    • Understand the integration of allocated capital, optimal portfolio construct and asset allocation

    • Strong communication skills including an ability to explain complex concepts and key issues effectively.

    • Pragmatic, and solution-focused; able to make trade-offs balancing between deliveries, and risks/costs.

    • Possess a wide range of skills and knowledge would be advantageous, including an accounting, actuarial, quantitative finance, investment management, corporate finance, and commercial acumen.

     

    Qualifications and experience                    

    • Qualified or nearly qualified actuary.

    • Minimum Experience: 5 - 10 years relevant experience in insurance or asset management industries.

    Claims Handler

    Job Description

    • To provide a quality Claims service to our mandated brokers/UMA’s
    • Ensure containment of claims spend on the mandated brokers/UMA’s
    • Provide excellent service a culture of best practice to our mandated brokers/UMA’s

    • Comply with Binder regulations and Claims Binder agreement

    • Provide support to relevant stakeholders (Re-insurance, Portfolio management, Corporate finance, SIU, Salvage etc.)

    • Handle reportable claims

    • Monthly estimate reporting

    • Drive direction spend

    • Identify risk and mitigate where necessary

    • Collaborate and work closely together (team work) with others thereby leveraging constructive team dynamics and innovation

    • Identify and recommend areas / ways to improve processes.

    • 2 - 3 years relevant Short Term Insurance Claims experience

    • Appropriate Insurance Qualifications

    • Working knowledge, understanding, comprehension and communication  skills

    • Underwriting knowledge

    • Strong EXCEL knowledge

    Negotiator: Elite Motor Claims

    Job Description

    Provide quality claims negotiating outcomes for the Claims function through effective and efficient claims negotiations and finalisation of claims.

    • Answer telephone and email queries from the brokers, based on updated logs
    • Analyse claim and confirm cover
    • Draft rejection letter if claim rejected
    • Request and analyse policy file and related documentation
    • Appoint assessor, if required
    • Capture/register claim
    • Settle claims within mandate
    • Recover 3rd party claims
    • Prepare payments file on successful recovery
    • Finalize claim as per Old Mutual Insure standard Keep broker informed at all times in terms of progress of claim

     

    Job Requirements

    • Matric or Equivalent
    • Must be able to register claims (End to End Process)
    • 2 - 3 years relevant Short Term Insurance Claims experience
    • Appropriate Insurance Qualifications
