    Purpose of Job

    Technician II Instrumentation

    Purpose of Job

    • To perform routine maintenance, install complex digital and analog control systems, perform technical electronic, laboratory and field analysis, and repair and modify instrumentation and control systems to allow machines to reduce variability and run to the best of their abilities.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Execute appropriate maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments and control systems.

    Engineer I Process PS

    Purpose of Job

    • To support process engineering strategy by meeting production targets, providing process engineering technical support to the Ammonia and Ammonia derivatives value chain, and identifying improvement opportunities. To identify and prevent risks of process deviation affecting safety, integrity, and availability.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Define OWAP and optimum operating window in which the value chain should be operated
    • Monitor and identify improvement opportunities to ensure operation within the OWAP
    • Translate loss accounting into improvement plans

    Process Engineer II

    Purpose of Job

    • Process engineering support for the Gas loop plants (ATR, Rectisol, Ammonia, Fuel gas blending) to protect and improve production volumes, ensure quality and efficiency performance targets are met, support plant asset health and enable plant sustainability with regards to environmental compliance through monitoring, troubleshooting, improvement initiatives and project development.  

    Key Accountabilities
    Supports the Process Engineering Lead with respect to meeting requirements for the health of the Gas loop plants. Specific contributions required include but are not limited to:

    • Develop technology knowledge of the specific Gas loop plants, ATR, Rectisol and Ammonia.
    • Develop and implement plant monitoring systems to monitor and proactively identify potential deviations and risk to production volumes, product quality and equipment integrity. Ensuring effective communication to all parties concerned and propose resolutions as required.
    • Problem solving and idea generation on equipment/unit operation.
    • Develop and execute process engineering related improvement plan roadmaps, with focus areas on production volumes, product quality, environmental and safety impact, energy efficiency and feedstock efficiency. The focus will be on short term Volume Protection Plans and longer-term Continuous Improvement Plans with support from internal engineering resources, Small Projects and/or Large Projects P&E resources as well as Licensor input.
    • Initiate modifications and capital expenditure proposals.
    • Carry initiated modifications through the design, implementation and commissioning phases right up to beneficial operation within business specified schedules and cost.
    • Perform technical calculations during the design phase of a project or during problem solving activities. When required locate and select appropriate recognized standards and guidelines when undertaking calculations
    • Ensure compliance with the MOC (Management of Change) system, Capital and project business systems (Project execution model, Sciforma, ARC, etc.). 
    • Play a leadership role to junior members in the team.
    • Contribute to the Capital budgeting process and the 10-year Rolling Capital Plan.
    • Support shutdown planning and execution. Ensure process integrity of equipment is restored, and critical projects are incorporated in shutdown planning and executed safely within project timeline. Recommend improvement opportunities with regard to plant turnarounds, commissioning and startup.
    • Provide process engineering support and input during project execution through management of process interfaces between Operations, P&E, R&T and/or Licensors.
    • Apply Process Engineering standards and best practices, aligned to lessons learnt. Provide quality process engineering input to work allocated and ensuring process engineering governance is followed.
    • Involvement/leading of incident investigations and unusual occurrences.
    • Review and/or develop plant specific technical documentation like operating envelopes, mass and energy balances, baseline assessments, MFDs, operating/training manuals, process simulations, design manuals, and any other technical documentation.
    • Lead and/or assist work efforts and projects/assignments with substantial business impacts and complex technical challenges, value chain.

    Senior Specialist Technical Services

    Purpose of Job

    • To provide expert and broad technical and process service support to customers by; enabling them to convert Sasol Base Chemicals' polymers efficiently and cost-effectively to achieve short and long term profitability for the business.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Implement aspects of business product strategy at customers, e.g. grade rationalization, grade improvements, new grades, etc.

    • Provide input and recommendations to polymer manufacturing hubs with respect to product quality decisions to guide production and Sales teams on suitability for final product conversion.
    • Lead and coordinate the implementation of Sasol’s plastics sustainability projects at customers and in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Leverage knowledge of customer process and application requirements to contribute to quality decisions and drawing of product specifications at operating hubs.
    • Lead the TS interface with internal value chain stakeholders to ensure that customer product requirements form part of grade development objectives.
    • Participate in relevant product development forums and liaise with external institutions to stay abreast of new developments in manufacturing technologies and product quality standards.
    • Participate in relevant industry forums and associations in support of Sasol’s strategic objectives.
