    Specialist: DCS and World Tracer - CM

    Job Purpose

    • The role is responsible for analysis, planning, developing, designing, maintaining, testing, and coordinating of system changes, new developments within the applicable system areas. Coordination with 3rd party suppliers and customers to ensure compliance to IATA (International Airline Transportation Association), SITA and legislative regulations such as SACAA (South African Civil Aviation Authorities), and internal and external audits.

    Principal Accountabilities    

    • Coordinate, manage and update Kronos Advanced Scheduler and Biometric Time and Attendance queries, project management and liaison with service provider 
    • Analyze, plan, develop, design, maintain, test and coordinate the DCS Customer Management application business rules in collaboration with IT and Amadeus
    • Ensure Airport Operations are assisted, up skilled and operational issues attended to in as far as Advanced Passenger Information Systems, seating, opening and closing of flights and other system related issues
    • Allocate User ID’s in DCS and World Tracer and grant necessary permissions
    • Update and maintain World Tracer management reports and active screens to enable users and Ground Handler to work on customer files
    • Test any new processes and systems
    • Perform Quality control on systems
    • Liaison between Operations, IT, Amadeus, SITA and Star Alliance
    • Research and analysis to aid in new system developments and enhancements
    • Ensure all airports are equipped with resources to perform duties such as required printers and computers
    • Fault finding and reporting of system issues
    • Provide reporting information on new enhancements to the team to inform decision making processes
    • Review policies and procedures and update as necessary to ensure required standards are maintained
    • Ensure regular quality assurance exercises are conducted across the relevant business areas to measure compliance with policies, procedures and standards
    • Develop training documentation and maintain application support standards, procedures, training
    • Aid the ATO in maintaining application support standards and in the development of training documentation
    • Provide 24x7 on call support as needed

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Bachelors Degree or equivalent qualification in Information Technology at NQF level 7 
    • ALTEA Customer Management and or exposure to ALTEA Administration and Security and Business Rules and World Tracer
    • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in an airline airport operations environment

    Technical/Flight Safety Specialist

    Job Purpose    

    • The incumbent of this role is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing safety and quality assurance programmes across Maintenance, Flight Operations, Dispatch, and the Operational Control Centre (OCC). This role ensures full compliance with regulatory standards, proactively identifies hazards, monitors operational risks, and drives continuous improvement through structured audits, inspections, and investigations.
    • The role is further responsible for interaction with various levels of management both internally and externally to recommend, initiate and approve corrective action in these instances in line with SAA’s Safety and Quality Assurance Programme and ISO standards, to ensure the principles of continual improvement are applied throughout the organisation.
    • The incumbent will support the Airline’s compliance with:
    • Airline Safety Management System
    • SACAA Regulations/Technical Standards (Part 121 & Part 140)
    • ICAO standards (Doc 9859)
    • IATA/IOSA/ISAGO requirements

    Principal Accountabilities    

    • Engage as a subject matter expert with stakeholders, both internally and externally, who are at the highest levels of industry, including regulatory authorities by using specialised operational and regulatory expertise so as not to expose the organisation to possible non-compliance to industry standards and/or compromised safety standards
    • Ensure the Airline meets its corporate and departmental goals and objectives related to aviation safety
    • Conducting Incidents/Accidents investigations and the monitoring of implemented corrective actions resulting from the investigations
    • Assist with the structuring and implementation of IOSA and/ or ISAGO principles to enable the retention of required certifications, as and when requested

    • Conduct safety audits and third-party audits and compiling of audit reports

    Qualifications & Experience

    • A 3-year diploma in A/C Mechanical or Avionics and/or Bachelor Degree in Safety Management and/or related field at NQF level 7
    • Higher Tertiary Qualifications in Maintenance will be an advantage
    • Aircraft Maintenance License will be an advantage
    • IATA (or equivalent) qualification in aviation Safety Management Systems or Human Factors in Aviation
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Part 121, Part 140, and/or Part 145 Operations
    • Comprehensive knowledge of SACAA Civil Aviation Regulations and SACAA Civil Aviation Technical Standards
    • Certificates in SMS, Human Factors, Crew Resource Management, Risk Management, Root Cause Analysis, Accident/Incident Investigation

    Cabin/Ground Safety Specialist

    • Conduct and co-ordinate all internal and external safety inspections (South African Civil Aviation Authority)
    • Conduct drafting of the internal safety audit checklist and audit schedules for, but not limited to:
    • Aviation Training Organisation

    • Ensure operations and updating as necessary to ensure compliance to all relevant regulatory authorities are met and required standards are maintained
    • Monitoring the implementation of all corrective action measures arising from but not limited to the following audits: Aviation Training Organization, Cargo Operations, Ground Operations, Airport Operations
    • Conduct and coordinate Ground Safety incident investigations in order to establish findings, root causes of failures, human errors/violations and contributory latent conditions
    • Ensure all corrective actions arising from Ground Safety incidents are implemented and monitor the effectiveness of the corrective actions
    • Compile regular and ad-hoc reports regarding Ground Safety hazard, trends, investigations and activities
    • Analyse all Ground Safety reports in order to establish Ground Safety trends
    • Conduct root cause analysis and identify human and systemic factors contributing to safety incidents
    • Review safety procedures in the Ground Operational Manual and Ramp Operational Manual
    • Monitor the reactive, proactive and predictive Hazard Identification process for Ground Safety
    • Conduct the risk assessment process for Ground Safety incidents
    • Monitor known safety risks, detect emerging safety risks and to determine any necessary corrective actions

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • A relevant Bachelor Degree in Safety Management Systems and/ or related field e.g. Quality Management Systems at NQF level 7 and/or 5 -7 years’ experience in a Safety/ Quality assurance role
    • At least 3-5 years experience in Airport, Airside and Cargo Operations environment
    • IOSA/ISAGO Internal Auditor Certification
    • Certificate in Aviation Auditors course will be an advantage
    • Experience with IOSA ground handling audits and knowledge of the ISAGO programme
    • Experience conducting Safety Inspections
    • Dangerous Goods Certification (Category 6) is advantageous

    Flight Operations

    Job Purpose    

    • South African Airways (SAA) wants you to join the SAA family as a First Officer.
    • As a First Officer, you will be expected to take all measures required for the safety of the flight, whether on the ground, or inflight, and be expected to perform the duties of a pilot for South African Airways as either a Second-In-Command Pilot (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3).

    Principal Accountabilities

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Matric Certificate / Grade 12 results / N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited)
    • Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
    • Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot’s License, or a Commercial Pilot License having completed all the ground subjects for the ATPL (previously known as a Frozen ATPL).  A valid ATPL License must be obtained within 4 years from date of employment with SAA with a multi engine instrument rating
    • Valid Class 1 medical
    • A minimum of 1,500 flying hours which includes 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft
    • Be a South African citizen with a valid Passport
