    Senior Lecturer/Lecturer: Anatomy

    Requirements:

    At Lecturer level:

    • Clinical degree, either:
    • MBChB and a masters degree in Anatomical Sciences/Human Anatomy OR relevant clinical anatomical experience (e.g. surgery, radiology, forensic pathology or related disciplines).

    OR

    • An alternate clinical qualification (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, or related field) and a masters degree in Anatomical Sciences/Human Anatomy 
    • Registered/Registrable with the HPCSA
    • Demonstrated ability to teach human anatomy in a dissection hall using formalin‑fixed cadaveric material.
    • A minimum of one year of experience teaching human anatomy at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Commitment to completing a master’s degree in Anatomy (if not already held).
    • A developing track record in research outputs.

    At Senior Lecturer level:

    • A PhD in Anatomical Sciences AND an appropriate clinical degree (e.g., MBChB, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, or similar).
    • Registered/Registrable with the HPCSA
    • 5 years of experience in teaching human anatomy to undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.
    • Active engagement in research with evidence of a publication record in peer-reviewed academic journals (eg. 10 peer-reviewed publications over the last 5 years)
    • Ability to teach anatomy in a dissection hall using formalin fixed cadaveric remains
    • Evidence of curriculum development and review
    • Track record in the supervision of graduated students.

    Responsibilities include:

    Teaching

    • Design and deliver lectures, tutorials, practical sessions and assessments in human anatomy to Science, MBChB, Health and Rehabilitation Science (H&RS) undergraduate and/or BMedSc (Hons) students and other post-graduate students.
    • Provide academic input into the Extended degree/ Augmented academic support Programme for MBChB and H&RS students.
    • Design and deliver practical sessions using human cadavers and anatomical specimens in dissection halls.
    • Supervise and co-supervise post-graduate students.
    • Assist in curriculum development and review.

    Research

    • Conceptualise and execute research projects in research related to human anatomy or biological anthropology.
    • Develop/expand research collaborations at a national level.
    • Be a member of or lead a productive research group.
    • Mentor post-graduate students.

    Leadership, management and administration

    • Perform leadership, management and administrative functions related to teaching and research responsibilities, including convening or co-convening courses, managing own funding for research.
    • Additional leadership duties as required by the Head of Division.
    • Administrative duties at Division and Departmental level.

    Social responsiveness

    • Participate in and initiate social responsiveness activities within the Institution.
    • Actively contribute to the transformation imperatives of the University of Cape Town.

    Business Analyst

    Role Overview

    • The Business Analyst will support operational, clinical, and strategic decision-making by transforming complex healthcare and operational data into clear, reliable, and actionable insights. The role focuses on data analysis, data quality, report writing, and the development of interactive Power BI dashboards for a diverse range of stakeholders.

    Qualifications:

    • A degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification, combined with significant relevant professional experience in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a related field
    • Power BI certification (e.g. Microsoft PL-300 or equivalent)
    • Formal training or certification in SQL, data modelling, or data visualisation

    Required Skills:

    • Data & Analytics Tools
    • Power BI (Power Query, DAX, data modelling, dashboard development)
    • Advanced Excel (formulas, PivotTables, Power Pivot, Power Query)

    • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models
    • Translate complex datasets into clear visual dashboards and structured written outputs
    • Build and optimise data models and semantic layers for reporting and analytics
    • Support automation of data refreshes and reporting processes
    • Engage with stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document business and reporting requirements, translating priority decision needs into clear analytical specifications, data definitions, and reporting outputs
    • Analyse healthcare and operational data to identify trends, risks, and performance insight
    • Document business requirements, data definitions, reporting logic, and reporting standards
    • Ensure reporting complies with healthcare data governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements
    • Troubleshoot data quality and reporting issues and continuously improve reporting solutions

    Occupational Health, Safety & Biosafety Manager

    Requirements for the job:

    • NQF 7 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or relevant field
    • 5 years' relevant Health & Safety experience including in a laboratory environment
    • At least 3 years’ experience in a leadership and managerial role.
    • Proven project management experience.
    • Advanced computer literacy, especially in MS-Office, including spreadsheets and database implementation.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure independently and within a team.
    • Excellent English oral and written communication skills, including the ability to service high-level committees and meetings.

    Advantages:

    • Experience in Biosafety Management
    • Experience in Environment Management
    • Health Sciences Qualification will be advantageous
    • Exposure within a Higher Education environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage Health and Safety systems at different levels
    • Hazardous substances Risk Management and Compliance
    • Hazardous substance regulatory and safety management
    • The incumbent will be required to work with students, academic staff, researchers, and scientific and technical staff.
    • Education and training of health and safety representatives, students and staff in health and safety requirements.
    • Liaison with stakeholders including service engineers, contractors, etc.
    • Oversight of laboratory compliance at various biosafety levels.
    • Any reasonable instruction as required by the line manager.

    Research Manager: J-PAL Africa

    Requirements:

    • A Masters in Public Policy or Economics or another similar social science including graduate level (Honours and up) courses in econometrics/ statistics, microeconomics or development economics
    • A minimum of two years relevant work experience
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous quantitative research
    • Strong skills in data cleaning and analysis or other programming including task automation using Stata and/or R and/or Python 3
    • Experience managing complex research projects
    • Demonstrated people management experience (including managing staff at multiple levels), ideally including managing a survey team in a developing country
    • Experience in managing relationships with multiple stakeholders from different institutions or departments

    Responsibilities include:

    • Project Management: managing J-PAL Africa’s evaluations
    • Supervise several impact evaluations/research projects concurrently.
    • Planning and feedback with principal investigators in a timely manner.
    • Preparing budgets and financial reports for donors and project financial management
    • Manage all the steps of the implementation of each impact evaluation: project management, sampling, intervention monitoring, data collection, data cleaning and analysis
    • Hire, train and supervise the team working on each research project, including (Senior) Research
    • Associates, and less directly, Interns, Project Associates and field enumerators as appropriate.
    • Project Development: Working with prospective partners and academics to craft and fundraise for project ideas.
    • Relationship Management: Oversee communication and engagement with (potential) partner organizations and other stakeholders and funders
    • Support as a trainer of capacity building activities of J-PAL Africa: workshops, seminars, Evaluating Social
    • Programmes Executive Education courses, and staff training
