Job Summary
DESCRIPTION
Do you get excited about solving challenging problems with global scale? Come join our team of innovative software developers that are building a next generation infrastructure management service that will help internal AWS teams continue to scale and manage their global service footprint. You will have a wide reach as your customers are internal AWS teams located all around the world.
We believe in using the right tools to solve the problem. Java and Python are common languages used in our space, but not limited to these. We believe in leveraging our public AWS services for internal use, so you will get to build with services like S3, EC2, DynamoDB, Step Functions, Lambda, and more.
As an experienced engineer in the team, you will be a technology leader responsible for mentoring engineers in the team, guiding our service's technology strategy, designing and developing high quality software designs and implementing solutions autonomously to address the ambiguous challenges we encounter. We use an agile approach to deliver value to our internal customers.
At Amazon, we believe learning is never done. You will have access to extensive training material that covers all dimensions of the AWS tools and will be presented with opportunities to leverage and contribute to internal communities, demos and knowledge sharing sessions to assist you in reaching your career goals. Our team is welcoming and supportive towards new team members through mentoring and coaching.
Having career and growth opportunities is a priority, and we have clear growth paths for our technical roles. You will partner with your manager to define and track your career plan.
Most of our team is based in Cape Town. Under normal circumstances, we mostly work from the office, but you will have the flexibility to manage your own time. Occasionally we work with our colleagues across the world meaning we accommodate different time-zones. This position involves on-call responsibilities. We continuously prioritize efforts to automate ourselves out of operational responsibilities to ensure the impact is minimal.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, curious engineer to join us building this new service. Apply now and come build with us!

The EC2 Console Development team is based in Cape Town, South Africa and builds and operates the web-based AWS EC2 Console, one of the most widely used AWS consoles.
Our mission is to enable our customers to learn, build, deploy, monitor and manage their EC2 infrastructure. We use rich data drawn from customer and product research as well as real time analytics to monitor and anticipate our customers’ needs. We then design and build innovative solutions for our customers using the latest web based technologies.
In this role, your key focus extends to developing new features and making improvements for the EC2 console, working closely with your team, product managers and UX designers to build web-based products that delight our customers.
In your first few months in the EC2 Console your days will be focused on designing and developing new features, you’ll join your team’s on-call rotation, helping to support the console and improve our tooling and monitoring systems.
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so that you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work. We engage with colleagues all over the world, meaning we accommodate different time zones. We rotate our on-call responsibilities within our development teams, which means that you would need to be contactable outside of work hours every 4-6 weeks.
