    Software Development Engineer – EC2 Console

    Job Summary

    DESCRIPTION

    The Amazon EC2 team is seeking a Software Development Engineer to create beautiful customer facing products and innovate to improve experiences for millions of users. The EC2 Console Development team is based in Cape Town, South Africa and builds and operates the web-based AWS EC2 Console, one of the most widely used AWS consoles.

    Our mission is to enable our customers to learn, build, deploy, monitor and manage their EC2 infrastructure. We use rich data drawn from customer and product research as well as real time analytics to monitor and anticipate our customers’ needs. We then design and build innovative solutions for our customers using the latest web based technologies.

    In this role, your key focus extends to developing new features and making improvements for the EC2 console, working closely with your team, product managers and UX designers to build web-based products that delight our customers.

    In your first few months in the EC2 Console your days will be focused on designing and developing new features, you’ll join your team’s on-call rotation, helping to support the console and improve our tooling and monitoring systems.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Produce clean, efficient code
    • Fixing and improving existing software
    • Work with developers to design algorithms
    • Verify and deploy programs and systems
    • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing software
    • Recommend and execute improvements
    • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting

    Basic Qualifications

    • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent working experience
    • 5+ years of industry experience in a software development environment
    • Good understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, object-oriented design, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
    • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Python, Javascript,
    • Nice to have - working knowledge of Typescipt, NodeJS
