    IT SLIMS Coordinator

    Job Description

    • SGS is looking for a seasoned IT Coordinator who will be responsible to support laboratories with LIMS – coordinating issues, functionality and improvements of the system. Chemistry and/or Laboratory background is ESSENTIAL
    • The ideal candidate for this position will be a person who is innovative, acts with speed, composure, compassion and knowledge to solve problems and is a self-starting, organized individual, with excellent communication skills, and a strong attention to detail. This role provides a high level of service and support.

    Primary Job Responsibilities
    Reporting to the IT Manager, you in the role, are expected to:

    • Supporting of the various LIMS system in multiple Laboratories, on a technical and functional level
    • Implement IT projects in the region and objectives of the information technology needs of the company to ensure the computer capabilities are responsive to the needs of the company's growth – including configuration of LIMS systems for new and existing sites
    • Providing bi-weekly project updates for new LIMS projects

    • Test Hardware/Software
    • Support Users
    • Establish company infrastructure to support and guide individual divisions/departments/sites in computing and information technology efforts

    • Control the quality, timeliness and costs of the (IT) projects
    • Ensure the security of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment
    • Assist with implementation, support and revision of all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans
    • Identify emerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the company

    Qualifications
    Experience

    • A MUST HAVE - Chemistry and/or Laboratory experience
    • Laboratory software experience is a definite requirement
    • Minimum 3 years IT experience in a client and system support capacity
    • Experience with implementation of information technology integrations like CCLAS, Starlims, LabVantage or SLIM
    • Laboratory experience in a commercial Laboratory environment - A MUST
    • Experience required in desktop/laptop hardware troubleshooting and support as well as Microsoft Operating systems and Microsoft Office applications setup, configuration and support.
    • Server hardware and software support experience
    • Database support experience

    Qualification

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • Relevant A+/N+ or MCDST University Degree or Diploma or equivalent professional Qualification – and/or 3 years proven experience in the sector or within the company in the functions, knowledge, skills and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (an advantage)
    • MCSE will be an advantage
    • Network operations knowledge
    • Portal support knowledge (MS Share point portal)
    • Valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle

    Technician

    Job Description

    • Responsibility to log received samples into the SLIMS using work orders from the client.
    • Responsibility to print sample labels.
    • Responsibilities to ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing the samples.
    • Responsibility to follow all quality directives of this Department.
    • Responsibility to weigh prills using a micro-balance and recording the weights in the SLIMS.
    • Responsible to lock the prills away in the safe at the end of the shift.
    • Responsible to perform nickel sulphide leaches and / or other similar Wet Chemical techniques by accurately following the written procedures.
    • Responsible for operation of laboratory instrumentation such as LECO analysers
    • Responsibility to bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Chemist.
    • Responsibility to adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
    • Responsibility to ensure that the housekeeping in the receiving area as well as the micro-balance room is in order.
    • Complies and conforms to Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
    • Responsibility to record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration and verification of instruments.
    • Responsibility to work in other areas and/or Divisions if asked to do so.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.

    Qualifications

    • Education
    • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry
    • Grade 12, with Mathematics and Science

    Experience

    • 3 years laboratory experience
    • Competent in logging of samples and working with CClas.
    • A responsible person to work with prills.
    • Able to perform various wet chemical techniques
    • Lims administration and operation
    • Experience in instrumentation, data collection and reporting
    • Competencies
    • Must have full understanding of the LIMS system
    • Computer Literate (Microsoft Office).
    • Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Works well under pressure
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

    Operator

    Job Description

    • Assist the mineralogists with execution of testwork.
    • Responsible for ensuring turnaround time is adhered to, for work specified in regards to mineralogy division

    Must be able to prepare mineralogical samples,

    • Accurate recording and monitoring of sample flow and chain of custody.
    • Accurate weighing and recording of sample/aliquot masses.
    • Wet and dry screening.
    • Filtration: Vacuum and Pressure.
    • Crushing, splitting and pulverization.
    • Preparation of blocks and/or thin sections
    • Ensure that all sample preparation is done correctly so as to avoid contamination, sample loss and sample swopping.
    • Ensure that all equipment is clean prior to and after a test.
    • Responsible for bringing all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the mineralogists or manager
    • Ensure the working area under their responsibility is clean and safe, according to the housekeeping requirements of the SGS health and safety management system.
    • To work in other areas of the Met/Min division if required to do so.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by direct line manager.

    Qualifications

    • Senior certificate or equivalent
    • Minimum of 6 months in the relevant field
    • Mineralogy preparation of polished blocks will be an advantage
    • Basic computer literacy (word and excel)

    Senior Mineralogist

    Job Description
    To perform the role of senior mineralogist within the division. The responsibilities and authorities of the senior mineralogist in mineralogy in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel are outlined.

    • Lead and control all activities related to an assigned project, including coordination of sample preparation and associated staff, QC/QA of samples prepared, data acquisition using available mineralogical equipment and QC/QA of the data, liaison with all other departments, divisions and subcontractors involved.
    • Preparation of proposals to achieve the client’s objectives.
    • Data processing / control, reporting of testwork according to company guidelines with minimal input from the line manager and report writing.
    • Creating the context for the work within which certain objectives need to be achieved, which implies planning and structuring of task achievements over a period that ranges from 1 week to 3 months.
    • Evaluation of results and interpretation.
    • Management, training and direction of technical support staff in quality, testwork methodology, safety and time management.
    • Meet company targets with respect to turnover and quality.
    • Assist with the planning, set-up, commissioning and operation of mineralogical instruments, such as XRD, TIMA and optical microscopes.
    • Formatting, editing and setting up of forms required to record testwork results and data.
    • Responsible for the effective and appropriate use of equipment, facilities, including good housekeeping.
    • Liaise with the client at proposal writing phase, preliminary reporting and final handover of project results.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.

    Site OI Coordinator

    Job Description
    To implement, maintain, continuously develop and improve all HSE related areas, including legal compliance, client requirements and OI management system requirements as per local and Global requirements at the Bryanston Site

    • Implement the business line OI Top page at responsible site together with the HOD Lab and administration in Mineralogy Division
    • Implement, maintain and control OIMS and local HSE regulatory requirements at responsible site
    • Manage clear HSE related communication between role players (OI, Site personnel and Management)
    • through use of global assessment tools (Stellar) and auditing / inspection processes
    • Promote HSE awareness (Campaigns, awareness, communications etc.) throughout the responsible site
    • Conduct OI training aligned with OIMS and local regulatory requirements
    • Supervise the SHE Reps for the site
    • Assist with Access control in Bryanston
    • Report and manage OI related incidents, near misses, hazards and best practices in accordance with group expectations
    • Conduct Incident Investigations
    • Report incident, near misses, hazards and site KPI’s
    • Facilitate Risk Assessments through the Crystal module for all Mienrlaogy operations (Randfotein Min and Bryanston Min and general tasks)
    • Implement Global OI Initiatives throughout responsible site where applicable (Safe Start, Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Safe Talks, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc.)
    • Ensure corrective action implementation from Incidents / Best Practices
    • Conduct L4 compliance audits and inspections / site visits and provide guidance and assistance on related challenged and areas of improvement
    • Evaluate the business process, procedures in relation to changes and amendments as and when required
    • Assist locations with internal and external audits, client visits, governmental / regulatory visits etc.
    • Timeously conduct inspections and compile report relating to HSE matters
    • Adhere and ensure adherence to all safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Perform any reasonable tasks assigned to the job holder to support the overall OI strategy

    Qualifications
    Education

    • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH (Completed or in progress)

    Experience

    • 5 years relevant HSE management experience
    • Advance Microsoft software experience
    • Document and report writing experience
