    Planner

    Are you driven by systems and product? Are you a forward thinking individual with 

    experience in retail or fashion manufacturing? If so, this opportunity may be for you!

    Based at our Head Office in Cape Town, this position will appeal to a skilled performer who likes to be close to the action. Drawing on your well-honed fashion planning skills, your role will be to develop, implement and control all aspects of merchandise planning to ensure the profitability and efficient servicing of our stores.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Working closely with our fashion Buyers and suppliers.

    • Mastering the powerful systems combination of Retek and Arthur.

    • Ensuring that the right mix of merchandise reaches the right stores at the right price, right on time.

    Requirements

    • 4 or more years of experience preferably with a fashion retailer
    • B.Com, B.Sc or other numerate tertiary qualification
    • Analytical and organisational skills
    • Numeric ability
    • Systems orientation & knowledge (PLM; JDA, Arthur; Retek)
    • Strong Trader Ability

    Employee Relations Specialist

    This vacancy is for an experienced IR professional with a passion for day-to–day IR.
    Responsibilities:

    • To assist and support Line Management in dealing with poor performance and misconduct issues by giving advice on how best to deal with issues, approving charges and helping them through preparation for disciplinary hearings.
    • Assisting and supporting Chairpersons with letters of sanction and findings.
    • Assisting Line Managers with preparation for CCMA cases Training Line Managers in IR and developing and running IR courses

    Requirements:

    • Preferably at least 2 years solid experience as an IR specialist
    • Very well developed written and verbal communication skills
    • Good people skills particularly in assisting people through difficult situations
    • Good conflict handling skills
    • Person must have the ability to say no and make tough calls
    • Attention to detail
    • Organized and the ability to multi task
    • Patience and remaining calm under pressure.
    • Able to deal effectively with all levels of staff including senior management
    • Good all round experience of HR systems, policies, legal requirements, programs & practices.
    • Previous experience within the Retail or Service sector will be advantageous

    Java Developer

    We are looking for a Java Developer to join the Store Operations Development Team working on Oracle Point of Sale and other Store facing applications.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Store Operations Development Team develops and supports the applications that are used in the Truworths Stores.

    We support a wide range of systems, mostly Java based, and ranging from Swing Thick Client through to Light Weight Web-app and Highly Available JEE deployments.

    Our largest responsibility is the POS software, of which do up to 4 releases a year of new functionality and an Oracle Release upgrade.

    Note:Standby would need to be performed on a rotational basis

    QUALIFICATIONS

    BSc in Information Systems or IS Tech diploma (Essential)

    Honours Information Systems (Advantageous)

    EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

    3 to 5 years development work experience

    ADVANTAGEOUS

    • Data modeling experience
    • Previous experience in retail systems
    • Exposure to Agile Practices such as Daily Stand- up, Task Board, Product Backlog etc.
    • Continuous Build, Unit Testing, Source Control (SVN), Maven, Ant, Scripting
    • Retail Experience

    TECHNICAL

    • XML, various APIs
    • SQL, preferably Oracle
    • Java SE, Java EE, (Web Frameworks, EJB, JMS)
    • Application Server (Weblogic, Glassfish or Other)
    • Vaadin (advantageous)

    • Web Services (SOAP, REST) (advantageous)
