    Technical Director - Rail Civils Design

    • We are currently recruiting a Technical Director - Rail Design Management with solid experience in Railways design and team leading, to join our busy and expanding experienced team. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of Railway Projects across the globe. Our internal clients work for private and public sector and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors. Our group has an established track record of successfully delivering design projects for many years, throughout the USA and Australia, not to mention Canada or Middle East. You may have the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic Transportation projects, being part of a diverse and multicultural team. This is a key role within the South African Global Delivery Center, with a high visibility within Enterprise Capabilities (EC), but also close contact with other Design Centers. The Technical Director reports to the Rail Market Sector Lead in Africa.

    The responsibilities of this role include:

    • Works with rail discipline leadership to prepare proposals and do assessment of multidisciplinary packages of work. Categorizes packages of work, elaborates project execution plans and defines the delivery strategy, including composition of design teams across different disciplines and locations.
    • Responsible for leading a design team working for internal clients, integrating resources from different global offices.
    • Accountable for the development of delivery methodologies which manage risk, maximise on opportunities for the pursuit of delivering multi-disciplinary projects to budget and schedule for our clients.
    • Initiates and directs the planning, development, and continuous monitoring of the project scope, resources, procedures, budget and schedule for the packages of work allocated to the project team.
    • Reviews project key performance indicators and forecasts any modifications to schedules, cost estimates, and financial reports, and effectively reconciles risks to commitments that may exceed assigned schedules and budgets. Reports KPIs and metrics regularly.
    • Delivers effective communication inclusive of internal clients and team members to clarify expectations and requirements.
    • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others. Approves and signs off on work.
    • Can apply principles of rail System Engineering including requirements specification and management, designing for robustness (Whole System Lifecycle), Safety by Design and System Integration and Verification.
    • Trains, mentors and evaluates less experienced staff.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Proven track record of technical work on railways design collaborating with international and multi-cultural teams (+10 years), combined with design management experience (+5 years) on large international Railways Projects.
    • Previous Contractor’s Design Manager experience in railways projects could be considered favourably.
    • Strong technical leadership of teams in the delivery of projects focused on delivering for the Client.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within teams or in a wider collaboration.
    • Experience with international regulations and standards (i.e AASTHO; Australian Codes; British Standards, etc.).
    • Proven commitment with Quality Control Policy and Quality Management System.
    • Team management experience.
    • Experience working in the UK (Network Rail), North America region / Australia will be considered favourably.
    • 15+ Years' experience after obtainment of Qualification of which 5+ years should be in a technical supervisory role.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science / Engineering degree in Civil Engineering (or Railways Engineering) from an accredited University. Master of Science / Engineering will be considered favourably.
    • Professionally registered as an Engineer with ECSA or equivalent professional body is required. UK, US and/or Australia Professional Engineer license will be considered favourably.
    • PMP or PRINCE2 certification would be considered favourably.

    Candidate Quantity Surveyor – MEP Electrical

    Job Description

    Under the supervision of a registered Quantity Surveyor, carrying out the normal duties and functions which occur within a professional Quantity Surveying office. These duties and functions include, inter alia:

    • Preparing estimates of construction costs
    • Measurement of building quantities for bill preparation and final accounts
    • Drafting Bills of Quantities
    • Site visits and site measurement
    • Preparing valuations for issue of interim payment certificates
    • Assisting with cost management of construction projects
    • Preparing and concluding final accounts
    • Complying with basic office rules and procedures
    • Complying with the procedures laid down by the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors regarding obtaining registration. It is expected that registration will be obtained at the earliest possible date.
    • Attending all in-house seminars and workshops
    • Obtaining the required computer literacy and skills
    • Working in conjunction with other staff.
    • Ensuring compliance with the firm’s quality management systems, including establishing a full knowledge of the quality and practice manuals.

    Core Accountabilities:

    • Accountable for a variety of complex tasks covering:
    • Show interest towards or have experience in the MEP side of Quantity surveying.
    • Be experienced in Electrical measurement: Lighting, Small Power, MV and LV Installations , Containment, Access Control and Communications Installations.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience.
    • Must be strong in estimating and BOQ production
    • Must be able to work under pressure
    • Must have experience in WinQS / DimX / Excel
    • Knowledge of POMI, SANS and CESMM measurement systems will be an added advantage

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • BTech. Quantity Surveying Or
    • BSC Property Development / Honours (QS) Or
    • BSC Property Development
    • Engineering Diploma / Degree

    Senior Stormwater Engineer

    Job Description

    • As a Stormwater Engineer in our Water Resources team, you will provide technical and specialist analysis and design support in the area of stormwater drainage, hydrology and flood management for a wide range of infrastructure projects including road, rail and urban development in Africa and around the world.

    The successful applicant will be required to undertake:

    • Hydrological analysis of storm rainfall
    • Hydrological and hydraulic analysis of catchment runoff and watercourses
    • Hydraulic modelling and design of stormwater reticulation systems, culverts, erosion protection and other flood control structure
    • Water sensitive urban design for water quality control
    • Preparation of project specifications, bill of quantities and tender documentation
    • Stormwater master planning and flood risk assessments
    • Mentoring less experienced staff

    Minimum requirements

    • Eight to twelve years' experience in a similar role - essential
    • Experience in hydrological studies, hydraulic analysis and design of stormwater drainage infrastructure such as culverts and bridges - advantageous
    • Experience in the design of stormwater reticulation systems, culverts, erosion protection, flood control structures and runoff treatment and management devices – advantageous
    • Knowledge of detailed road drainage design and multi-disciplinary interfaces - advantageous.
    • Experience in the use of drainage analysis and associated design software technology applications (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, PCSWMM, 12D, Autocad, Civil 3D, GIS etc.) - highly advantageous
    • •Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent

    Candidate Engineer (Mechanical - Water)

    Job Description

    • The Candidate Engineer engages in all the Candidate Programme elements and assists the Engineer and the broader team in producing design information while building analytic and design skills in the discipline area. The programme introduces and develops essential business and personal skills, enhancing the transition from student to professional.

    Technical Excellence:

    • Develops designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, and project BIM models as per specific discipline requirement. Works on drawings under the supervision of an experienced Engineer.
