    Associate Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement recognizing differences in executing these responsibilities within academic departments and faculties. 
    • Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University level and contribute to their profession.

    The Requirements

    • A PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related Pharmaceutical Sciences, with 10 -12 years of teaching experience or 10 -12 years of professional experience in a health, medicines-related field, or pharmaceutical industry.
    • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist and active membership in academic and professional organizations.
    • Teaching or training experience in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Chemistry at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels using appropriate teaching, learning support, assessment methods, and technologies is required.
    • Experience in teaching in the disciplinary areas of Pharmaceutical Analysis and/or Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry.
    • Experience in teaching other relevant and related areas of Pharmaceutical Chemistry will be an advantage. Proven proficiency in using laboratory and analytical equipment and conducting experiments.
    • Good research supervision of at least Master's and PhD degrees required with a proven track record of securing competitive research funding.  Participation in collaborative research projects would be an advantage.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles. Leadership activities may be formal or informal.
    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline based on research outputs and ability to secure research funding.

    Re-Advertising: Professor/Professor in the Department of Chemistry

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and engaging in community engagement, recognising differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, faculty, and/or university levels and contribute to their profession.
    • In addition, a professor and associate professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and contribute towards the institution's governance. This professor's leadership contribution should be evidenced at the departmental, faculty, and institutional levels.

    The Requirements 

    Associate Professor:

    • At least a PhD in Chemistry.
    • Considerable teaching experience in organic chemistry at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Experience teaching topics related to organic synthesis, green chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural products.
    • Track record in Masters’ and Doctoral supervision to completion.
    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
    • Track record of research publications in organic chemistry and in attracting research funding.
    • Track record of administration, management, and leadership roles and be willing to take on the role of the Head of Department when required.

    Professor:

    • At least a PhD in Chemistry.
    • Extensive teaching experience in organic chemistry at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Experience teaching topics related to organic synthesis, green chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural products.
    • Track record in Masters’ and Doctoral supervision to completion.
    • International profile in the discipline.
    • Track record of research publications in organic chemistry and in attracting research funding.
    • Track record of administration, management, and leadership roles and be willing to take on the role of the Head of Department when required.
