    Legal Counsel - Long Term Insurance (SA & ARO)

    Job Summary

    • To provide sound legal advice and support in area of specialisation enabling the provision of legal risk management for the business.

    Accountability: Legal Risk

    Continued pro-active stakeholder engagement and involvement on a business level

    • Understands the principles of insurance with a specific emphasis on long term insurance. Ensure commercially and legally sound guidance and advice in respect of allocated insurance regulatory requirements in a professional and supportive manner; always considering the potential alternatives within the rules and regulations applicable, endeavouring to find solutions to ensure lawfulness and compliance as well as the continuation of business.     • Collaborative skills and the ability to build strong relationships especially with other colleagues in legal and business stakeholders is essential.
    • Assist to develop working structures and best practice guides for use within business
    • Should be able to adopt a cohesive approach to working across businesses and engage stakeholders at middle management level.

    • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of areas of specialisation and consider, comment, draft negotiate and give advice and guidance on long term insurance documents/ agreements for the business. Experience in technology law and IT related agreements is advantageous but not essential.

    Product Specialist: Authorisations (Card)

    Job Summary

    BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE SPECIFIC BUSINESS UNIT:

    • This role is within RBB: Everyday Banking in Consumer Card Issuing, reporting into Card Issuing Product.

    BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:

    An exciting role that focuses on creating efficiencies around payment authorisations.

    • The Authorisations process is critical for the functioning of credit and debit cards. Efficient authorisations enable the customer experience for card users using their cards to transact at a physical point of sale or online (e-commerce) sites. It provides the Issuer with an opportunity to approve or reject card transactions either due to insufficient funds to manage credit risk or fraud. The Authorisations function requires in-depth understanding of the Card systems environment from an Issuing and Acquiring point of view to enable management of exceptions and to identify root causes of authorization failures in order to resolve customer queries and complaints and industry incidents. 
    • This role will be focused on managing existing authorisations processes, incidents and resolving queries and complaints. It is complementary to the existing role of the Authorisations specialist which is currently focused on Authorisations improvements to ensure compliance to industry and schemes mandates and improve risk management, operational efficiency and the customer experience.

    Job Description

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Analyse operational reports for authorisations to identify exceptions, do root cause analysis and resolve the identified issues causing the exceptions
    • Receive and be the first point of escalation for customer queries and complaints relating to authorisations on debit and credit cards
    • Log risk events as required for tracking and resolution of operational risk issues
    • Communicate with the technology teams, product teams, customer service teams, fraud strategy, risk and compliance, payments and finance teams to raise and resolve authorisations issues.
    • Work with the Product and technology team to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the authorisations function by performing analysis to assess the need for any requested changes as well as their potential impact.
    • Provide subject matter expertise for new products, enhancements and any projects and initiatives which impact the authorisations function.
    • Ensure that colleagues and third parties are familiar with all business processes and policies impacting on the authoriations functions including Card Schemes bulletins.
    • Measure and monitor the authorisation issues in terms of number of exceptions, root cause analysis and themes, losses and write-offs, produce reports and makes recommendations
    • Provide market intelligence and periodic competitor analysis i.e. bench-marking with other industry players in terms of authorisations incidents and provide recommendations on required system and process changes to ensure that Absa Card remains competitive in terms of authorisations performance.
    • Participate in the Card Issuing Risk forum and provide updates on risk events and issues impacting on authorisations.
    • Work with the Payments team and industry representatives as well as legal and compliance colleagues to ensure that the authorisations function enables Absa to comply with relevant legislation, rules, regulations and industry standards.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant degree or equivalent NQF level 7 or higher qualification
    • Previous Payment authorisations experience preferred
    • Experience in Card systems environment within a Bank preferred
    • At least 3-5 years banking ⁄ technology/ financial services environment experience

    Controller FC Risk Management and Control

    Job Summary

    • This role involves the testing, monitoring and coordination of assurance processes within Financial Control. The role includes analysing key risk information, identifying risk, assessing the control environment, escalation, via the appropriate governance forums of significant findings and remediation plans.  
    • Develop an in depth knowledge of the financial reporting systems and processes as well as the an Groups policies and risk management frameworks in order to assess the relevant processes and controls.

    Job Description

    Provide independent and objective risk oversight in line with the relevant Group Frameworks. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

    • Develop an in depth knowledge of the financial reporting systems and processes as well as the Groups Financial Reporting policies and risk management frameworks in order to assess compliance.  
    • Analysing risk information and assessing the environment for potential areas where assurance activities would benefit management.
    • Provide check and challenge to ensure that risks have been considered and sufficiently addressed.
    • Review, challenge and tracking / escalation of findings.
    • Review remediation plans for adequacy, completeness and progress.
    • Critical Process assessment assurance, including reporting.
    • Escalation of relevant findings to relevant governance forums.
    • Identify and perform independent assurance testing and deep dives.
    • Challenge processes to ensure risk are appropriately identified and managed.
    • Enable management to monitor the effectiveness of the control environment and to take action to further mitigate risk where required.
    • Provide risk guidance and support to management, including developing proposed solutions for areas where remediation is required  

    Education and Experience Required

    • B degree/similar qualification in a financial/related discipline or CA(SA)
    • Non CA: 5-7 years relevant experience / CA : 3 to 5 years PQ
    • Management or Front /Middle office role preferable.

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Exceptional academic track record
    • Understanding of financial reporting processes and related controls (Expert)
