The Electrician UG is responsible for the maintenance, installation, and commissioning of the electrical components of the machinery and equipment to an agreed standard in the area of responsibility.

As the Electrician UG, your responsibilities will be, but not limited to, the following:

• Attending and conducting Safety meetings
• Conducting and participating in Risk assessments
• Attending to Breakdowns and emergencies as required
• Ensuring that material, spares and equipment are available as required
• Ensuring compliance to environmental requirements
• Maintaining a high quality and standard of work
• Keeping an accurate record of results for all legal examinations
• Ensuring prioritization of business-critical tasks pertaining to Electrical work conducted
• Completing job cards and description of work and spares used (PM’s)
• Utilizing appropriate tools to complete Electrical tasks
• Support, coach and participate in the training and development of subordinates and apprentices
• Reporting at risk behaviour, incidents and injuries
• Informing Supervisor/Manager of defects and abnormalities
• Recommend employees suitable for career developing
• This role is in the Engineering Department at a C2 level reporting to the Engineering Foreman

Qualifications:

• Grade 10 / Technical Trade Specific N2
• Electrician Trade Certificate (essential)
• Medium Voltage Certificate (advantageous)

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

• At least 2 years’ post trade experience as an Electrician in an underground mining environment
• Must be able to do standby and overtime
• Must be familiar with risk assessments procedures
• Valid driving license and a reliable vehicle
• English literate (speak, read and write)
• Basic Computer Skills
• Medical Fitness Certificate will be required

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

• The role will include a direct expert technical support to the four functional areas within the process control department on the applicable technology segment. The Process Control group consists of recognised specialists in four defined process control fields (Regulator Control, Advanced Process Control, Data Analytics and Projects) which are critical to the success of a sustainable control solution
• The primary focus of the role will be on the mining operations to design, implement and support appropriate control solutions for underground and open cast mines. The ideal candidate must have strong experience in the application of automation in mining with a good understanding of Siemens, Rockwell and Modular. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with data-based insights.  The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions in a challenging environment and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

Responsibilities will include: 

• Stay abreast of technology and its application methodology
• Assist in defining the technical strategy in the applicable focus area and ensure its implementation
• Align strategy with the corporate and production drivers
• Establish network of excellence in applicable industry to support technical focus area
• Review operational efficiency versus control system objective
• Define required support structure to ensure sustainability of applicable technology area
• Benchmark technology deployed and results achieved against the industry standard and best practice
• Manage applicable Research and Development portfolio as instructed to support technology strategy
• Identify suitable technology centers of excellence to support technology strategy
• Align R&D output with technology strategy
• Assist in defining and implementing training requirements to support technology investment on operations
• Develop and maintain strategy document to support applicable technology focus for use by both central and production control teams
• Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions
• Mine and analyse data to drive optimization and improvement
• Provide second line support on the control solutions to the mining operations

Qualifications:

• Relevant post graduate technical qualification

Experience:

• 10 years’ experience in relevant control and instrumentation environment
• Experience in leading control system projects
• Experience working with major control system vendor, Siemens, Rockwell and Modular
• Experience working with OSIsoft PI systems is advantageous.
• Experience with industrial network solutions
• Experience in minerals processing covering mining, concentrating, smelting and refining would be preferred
• Knowledge of networks covering firewalls, switches and routers
• Knowledge of network security
• Data-oriented personality
