    Artisan: Mechanical

    Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

    • The primary task is to ensure that all scheduled maintenance activities, performed during shutdown periods, are attended to and completed in time and accurately. Any breakdowns need to receive immediate attention and often require innovating and original ideas in order to find solutions for sometimes complex problems.
    • Routine mechanical maintenance on pumps, fans, motors (mechanical aspects), valves, compressors, building, hand tools, reactor components and systems as indicated in the various maintenance programs.
    • Tasks relating to work that can be performed irrespective of reactor operation are for example, preparations for maintenance activities during shutdowns, installation and commissioning of equipment, production of small and modification of existing items, etc.
    • Purchasing - Controls purchasing of materials/spares for all upgrades/modifications and non-routine maintenance. Liaises with suppliers to ensure that the most suitable item or equipment is obtained at the best possible price.
    • Support all members of the maintenance team as required. Support with maintenance on radiation facilities.
    • Routine and statutory inspections of pumps, fans, overhead cranes and ladders, building etc.
    • Supervision and assistance to riggers during inspections of lifting equipment.
    • Support with modification of reactor components and equipment.
    • Ensure that maintenance equipment is in good state and use calibrated equipment, when required.
    • Perform specialised task as requested on the maintenance request programme.
    • Follow-up preventive and corrective actions as required from the maintenance request programme.
    • Manufacture of small items and components w.r.t. the above mentioned.
    • Report on event / non-conformances investigation.
    • Maintain an effective documentation and records system on completed maintenance work.
    • Prepare work procedures and checklists (i.e. commissioning –plans, calibration checklists, work procedures, etc.), including the updating of mechanical drawings.
    • Assist and support with ensuring the continual upgrading and revision of the relevant mechanical maintenance documentation and programs (RR-MPR-0003, etc.)
    • Administrate the maintenance store(s) to ensure that critical items are available and controlled as required.
    • Provide training to all groups concerned in SAFARI-1 regarding new and existing equipment and maintenance programmes.
    • Support QHSE management system requirements and continuously ensure compliance through ISO and other standards. Also provide support during compliance audits, both internal and external.
    • Keep abreast of developments in own subject by attending colloquia, courses, training sessions and through literature

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Qualifications

    • Qualified Mechanical Fitter Artisan.
    • Valid code 08 drivers licence and own transport.
    • The incumbent must be medically fit to qualify as a radiation worker and chemical worker.

    Experience

    • 1- 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance in nuclear and support facilities with knowledge of aspects related to quality assurance and environmental control systems (regulatory and legislative requirements) in a nuclear facility.
    • Machining experience is a definite requirement.
    • Computer literate.
    • Valid driver’s license and own transport: the incumbent will be required to work after hours and placed on standby duties as needed.
    • The incumbent must be medically fit to qualify as a radiation worker and chemical worker.

    Manager LEMS

    Key Performance Areas:
    Operational Management

    • Operating the nuclear and other effluent treatment facilities within the prescribed statutory water permit
    • Manage, lead and guide staff in LEMS to ensure that the performance objectives are met in line with regulatory, statutory and environmental requirements
    • Oversee the planning, scheduling and organisation of all resources and services within the LEMS function necessary to perform work scopes
    • Ensure that all LEMS project plans are in place and executed according to agreed performance and quality standards and requirements
    • Develop, implement and maintain all Liquid Effluent activities and processes in accordance with NNR and SHEQ regulations and requirements.
    • Manage all risks by compiling and executing a formal risk management plan for LEMS

    Financial Management

    • Develop LEMS business plan, budget and forecast.

    Compliance Management (Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality)

    • Managing the upgrading and optimisation of effluent facilities to ensure conformance to license requirements and safety standards
    • Ensuring that chemical and radioactive materials are treated and/or released only in conformance with permits and licenses.
    • Ensure compliance to Necsa and regulatory bodies (e.g. DWS, NNR)
    • Effective implantation of applicable Quality and Environmental Management Systems in an ageing facility

    People Management

    • Human Capacity Building
    • Develop and maintain a training programme for all staff
    • Manage the personnel in line with Necsa corporate values & requirements and basic Labour Relations principles. This includes individual development and training to ensure competentqualified personnel. 

    Stakeholder Management

    • Managing the effluent treatment facilities in a cost-effective way to ensure compliance.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    • B-Tech or B Eng (Mechanical/Chemical)/ Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Science or equivalent 
    • 5–10 years’ relevant technical experience in Nuclear facilities/ Radioactive waste or effluent treatment systems/ Chemical or industrial process plants
    • Minimum 5 years working in a facility licensed under the National Nuclear Regulator
    • Minimum 3–5 years supervisory or management experience in an operational or technical environment.

    Senior Artisan Mechanical

    Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

    • Assist the mechanical section head with management of the mechanical maintenance workshop and subordinates (2 Artisans 1 Assistant, 2 Students, ±20 contractors and all SAFARI-1 personnel for mechanical maintenance related tasks), planning and coordinating maintenance activities and job cards as required in accordance with the various specifications of the SAR, maintenance programmes, legislative and regulatory requirements.
