    Superintendent Refractories - Richards Bay

    • Define and contribute to projects/maintenance scope, costs and benefits, schedule, and implementation strategy and technically manage project execution teams consisting of a mix of internal resources, consultants, and contractors.
    • Review and approve drawings; oversee others responsible for update and creation of the drawings as well as conduct refractory supplier pre-qualification and manage refractory supplier relationships.
    • Conduct QA/QC inspections at suppliers’ facilities prior to products being supplied to site and provide on-site supervision during construction and refractory installation phases and maintenance.
    • Develop plans for operational support of refractory lined assets, including planning and execution of fitness for service inspections, dimensional surveys, data analysis, condition assessment, preventive maintenance, and re-lining activities as well as develop and conduct a training program to upgrade skills of execution team members as needed to support the growth of the refractory practice.
    • Identify and manage technology improvement projects, including approved R&D projects and assist with marketing of technology, including writing technical papers and participation in relevant industry meetings, workshops, and conferences.
    • Utilize in-depth knowledge of refractory materials, its uses, and various installation methods and prepare drawings for refractory systems according to requirements, standards, and regulations.
    • Working closely with the project engineering team and project management team during the re-builds and support in technical meetings during projects, and production/operational discussions
    • Have a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, listen to Plant needs, and have systematic plans for task execution.

    What you’ll bring

    • Degree in engineering with a major in material science or ceramics.
    • Proven experience in the areas of refractory technology, combustion engineering and materials science.
    • Experience in refractory manufacturing, particularly involving the production, quality control, and installation of refractory brick and tile products, mortars, and lining systems.
    • 5 years heavy industry experience
    • Good working knowledge of the technical aspects of refractory design in closely related areas, i.e., an understanding of the impacts of refractory linings on vessel deflection and structural containment.
    • Good working knowledge of relevant design practices, codes, and standards.
    • API-936 Certification a plus

    Nature Solutions Program Manager (Non-Technical) - Johannesburg

    Specific accountabilities of the role include:

    • Managing the overall program organisation and establishment, with particular focus on voluntary development projects
    • Driving responsible, efficient and effective implementation and spend, based on feasibility designs
    • Developing and embedding a program governance and reporting framework to monitor implementation, progress and delivery
    • Managing financials against RTNS budget including contract expenditure
    • Supporting the onboarding of new RTNS team members and helping to build a positive team culture
    • Liaising with procurement, finance, tax, risk management & legal teams to ensure internal processes and controls are met
    • Providing project management support to major RTNS projects
    • Maintaining the RTNS SharePoint site (internal team and broader Rio Tinto) and knowledge hub, working closely with the RTNS Communications Business Partner
    • Supporting the development of an interactive platform that shows the location, scale, and impact of our NbS projects, working with technical expertise and applying tools such as GIS and PowerBI
    • Building and maintaining an implementation partner, broker, and developer customer relationship management platform
    • Building and embedding program governance and a reporting framework to monitor progress and delivery

    What you’ll bring

    • Excellent communication skills, ability to distil technical information into effective written and visual communication mediums (particularly PowerPoint)
    • Post-graduate degree in social, agricultural or natural sciences, or advanced degree in business management
    • Demonstrable experience in the implementation and management of large-scale development projects in Africa or elsewhere.
    • At least 10 years’ experience in the development sector
    • Proven record of implementation in Africa or South America
    • Demonstrable project management delivery and governance skills 
    • Strong Excel and financial skills
    • Strong project management experience (including tracking and reporting) and understanding of key processes (including finance, procurement, HR)
    • Resourceful self-starter who can build their own networks
    • Ability to work independently and drive projects forward with minimal input / guidance
    • Preference for someone with experience of working in a team that has been scaled up (i.e. from early concept to high performing team)
    • Willingness to challenge leadership for better outcomes and different ideas
    • Experience implementing development projects in rural areas beneficial
    • Basic understanding and passion for the subject matter, good understanding of the Rio Tinto strategy, purpose and voice
    • Collaborative approach and will help build a high-performing inclusive work culture

    Specialist: Metallurgical Accounting - Richards Bay

    Reporting to the Manager: Development Metallurgy, you will be: 

    • Preparation & presentation at Quarterly Reconciliation meetings and monthly month-end signoff/SAP production reconciliation and data check.
    • Publishing of a signed-off monthly reconciliation balance, ultimately from sand mined to product shipped and Initiation and tracking of actions arising from the monthly reconciliation meetings and balances.
    • Investigating and implementing solutions to close mineral accounting and reconciliation gaps
    • Overseeing and auditing all metallurgical reconciliation equipment, including samplers, mass measurement devices, weighbridges, calibrations and calibration facilities which could include the scheduling or management of contract maintenance, motivations for new or replacement equipment.
    • Over inspecting and independent reviewing of RBM laboratory analysis/calibrations
    • Conduct external product storage oversight visits & audits, metallurgical survey co-ordination, auditing and record keeping.
    • Oversee and review QA checks on key metallurgical inputs (reagents, coal, etc.)
    • Conduct any other special investigations related to mineral accounting, product quality and recovery performance as required by the department.

    What you’ll bring

    • A tertiary qualification in Chemical /Metallurgical Engineering BSc Hons
    • EB driver’s license
    • 5 years associated experience in heavy industry or mining, (mineral separation, equipment and processes),
    • Technical knowledge Richards Bay Mineral’s plants & metallurgical equipment is advantageous.
