About Swiss Re Corporate Solutions
Swiss Re is one of the world’s leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer. We anticipate and manage risks, from natural catastrophes and climate change to cybercrime.
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is the commercial insurance arm of the Swiss Re Group. We offer innovative insurance solutions to large and midsized multinational corporations from our approximately 50 locations worldwide. We help clients mitigate their risk exposure, whilst our industry-leading claims service provides them with additional peace of mind.
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions offers a flexible working environment where curious and adaptable people thrive. Are you interested in joining us?
We are looking for a risk engineer to work in our Property business segment in the Europe/South Africa region and provide technical advice to property underwriters especially with regards to Swiss Re’s Mining Underwriting business (surface/ underground & ore/coal mining and processing facilities, smelting/refining). Experience in the utilities business (power generation) would be a plus. You will advise our underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, capacity allocation and loss prevention measures for large mining and utilities accounts.
The opportunity
The main task is advising our underwriters on risk quality and loss estimates in order to achieve a preferable risk selection. This is done by reviewing, interpreting and summarizing third party technical risk information (desktop risk analysis). It also encompasses on-site risk inspections and operations reviews to verify our clients' risk mitigation approaches and to provide clients with risk improvement suggestions. In this role you will closely interact with underwriters and other internal clients.
Swiss Re's clientele are represented by all major industrial and commercial clients (local and international). However, you will be mainly responsible to support our mining business. Additionally, you could also provide support to utilities (power generation) for other heavy industries like smelting and steel industries.
As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) team you will be our expert in these dedicated core industries. This will allow you to contribute to various projects and papers involving best practices, guidelines, U/W tarification, technology and industry updates. Finally, you will be responsible for enhancing Natural Perils risk assessment methods for single risks - with focus on the mining and utilities business.
This role has global responsibilities and the team come from a diverse range of backgrounds, so you should be comfortable working in a truly international environment.
This opportunity is open to applicants in Europe/South Africa.
