Requirements:

• A Degree (preferably a Postgraduate degree) in Analytical chemistry or related field
• At least 5 years’ experience in an Analytical Laboratory

Advantageous:

Previous experience with specific equipment of interest to the department (AAS, XRF, ICP, LECO, BET, chemisorption)

Responsibilities:

• To provide an Analytical Service to staff and students from research groups within the department, but also other departments within UCT, and outside clients
• To manage staff members within the laboratory
• Ensure that quality data is being generated within the laboratory
• To train and supervise staff and students on analytical equipment
• Maintain, service and trouble shoot on all analytical equipment

Job description

eResearch Analyst responsibilities include:

• Assisting UCT researchers to accelerate and advance their research by facilitating their engagement with advanced ICT capabilities
• Carry out requirements analysis for research groups
• Working closely with national eResearch framework programs, as appropriate
• Liaising with stakeholders to ensure the development and deployment of research infrastructure projects run smoothly
• Strengthening grant applications, around the development and deployment of research infrastructure
• Developing and delivering material aimed at improving the awareness, knowledge and skills of researchers and support staff in areas of eResearch.

Minimum qualifications, experience and skills:

• PhD and relevant expertise in a domain science
• Proven ability to liaise, understand and manage the needs of broad and complex stakeholder groups with diverse viewpoints
• Experience in analyzing complex ICT requirements within an academic research environment
• Experience in conceptualizing ICT solutions
• Experience in program and project management
• Experience in grant writing
• Ability to think laterally and to innovate
• Excellent problem-solving capability
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, appropriately targeted to relevant audiences
• At least 3 years’ experience in a university research group or a relevant research environment

Experience with any of the following would be to your advantage:

• Financial management
• Knowledge of high performance computing technologies
• Knowledge of cloud computing (both public and private)
• Knowledge of open source collaboration tools and technologies
• Knowledge of research data management and modern eScholarship practices
• Knowledge of visualization infrastructure
• Workshop facilitation

Minimum requirements:

• a Masters' degree (professional) or 5-year Bachelors’ degree in architecture or equivalent
• teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
• a demonstrable record of research scholarship, for example a PhD degree and/or creative works that would equate to a PhD degree in architecture or equivalent
• Candidates should have a defined area of research in Architecture Design and Technology, and demonstrate a creative and innovative spirit in teaching and practice. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability to teach at the intersection of different subjects through studios, workshops and seminars to students from a diversity of backgrounds. Candidates must be willing to engage across the various disciplines within the architecture department, with a strong emphasis on the integration between Technology and Design.
• We seek an individual who can add new dimensions to our intellectual activities; help us change design in new ways that are responsive to broader social and environmental needs; and who are ready to teach studios, workshops and seminars. Staff responsibilities are teaching, research, administration and social responsibility.
