    Researcher Farmer Support, Commercialization And Enterprise Development (Roodeplaat)

    Description

    Project Management & Coordination

    The Researcher is responsible for conducting research projects across the Institute; these include the following aspects of the projects:

    • Research planning and initiation. 
    • Equipment and Research Materials.  
    • Project Human Resources.  
    • Project Finances.  
    • Risk Management and Mitigation.  
    • Monitoring, Evaluation, reporting and project close out.

    Research, Development, and Innovation

    The Researcher is responsible for conducting research, development and supporting innovation These include supporting the following research aspects:

    • Invention.  
    • Translation.  
    • Commercialization.  
    • Adoption and Use. 

    Research Collaboration
    The Researcher is responsible for supporting strategic research collaboration and collaboration opportunities these include:

    Requirements

    • PhD in Biotechnology, Agronomy, Plant Production, or a closely related field, with demonstrated knowledge of -omics technologies.
    • Minimum 3 years’ post-MSc research experience.
    • 3–5 peer-reviewed scientific publications relevant to phytochemical analysis.
    • Proven expertise in chemical analysis of plant samples, including qualitative and quantitative identification of compounds using LC-MS, GC-MS, and related techniques.
    • Demonstrated ability to write successful research proposals and generate external research funding.
    • Experience as a speaker at national or international conferences.
    • Proven ability to initiate, plan, and execute research projects, including personnel and financial management.
    • Track record of mentoring and/or supervising postgraduate students.
    • Established national and/or international research collaborations or networks.
    • Experience working with biologicals is essential.
    • Experience in cultivation R&D will be an added advantage.
    • Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    HCM Administrator (Stellenbosch)

    Description

    • Render and maintain quality Human Capital administration services that conform to personnel needs and those of the ARC.
    • Ensure that all human resources administration queries are dealt with in an accurate, timeous and professional matter.
    • Assist with coordination of performance management system.
    • Update staff records (appointments, resignations, terminations dismissals, transfers, promotions, leave reports, etc.).
    • Coordinate staff recruitment and selection process.

    Jumior Researcher: Soil & Amp; Water Science (Nelspruit)

    Description

    • Initiate, conduct, coordinate and manage field experiments under the Soil and Water Science program focusing on irrigation of fruit trees, in compliance with set standards, client needs/specifications, within budget and on time.
    • Develop project proposals in line with strategic goals and research themes of the ARC.
    • Ensure that the allocated budgets are managed in a cost-effective and proactive manner, including timeous execution of financial administrative activities/tasks in compliance with the prescribed financial procedures and policies of the ARC.
    • Ensure that allocated personnel and students are mentored, trained, utilized and evaluated to achieve the targets of the program and ultimately the ARC.
    • Contribute to the status of the ARC through high quality research findings in compliance with expected scientific standards. 
    • Actively identifies and pursues business opportunities and participates in the dissemination and marketing of information through national conferences and workshops.
    • Actively seeks to advance personal knowledge and expertise in monitoring tree water use and physiological response to water status.
    • Maintains adequate communications network with national scientists and funding organizations, as well as farmers and producers.

    Requirements

    • MSc degree in Agriculture majoring in Soil Science.
    • 1 to 2 years’ experience will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge & experience in fruit irrigation.
    • Knowledge and skills in interpreting soil analysis results.
    • Project management, planning and organizing skills.
    • Knowledge in human capacity development and financial management.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • A valid driver’s license.

    Description

    • Carrying out Farm practices as directed by the Farm management and/or a Researcher.

    • Experience in pests of vegetable or industrial crops will be an added advantage.
    • Registration with a recognized scientific or professional body is desirable.
    • NRF rating will be considered a strong advantage.
    • Valid driver’s license.
