    Pipe Fitting and Boiler Making Supervisor

    CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

    • Organize workflow and assign work to personnel to ensure attainment of section’s objectives in accordance to company policies, work procedures, work instructions, project schedules, work orders and employee capabilities.
    • Supervise pipe fabrication, repair and installation activities and apply knowledge of various materials, hot work processes, cutting techniques, welding equipment and fabrication requirements.
    • Set performance goals and deadlines in ways that comply with divisional plan, evaluate employee’s performance, accountability and provide feedback for continued employee growth.
    • Disciplines staff as and when required in accordance with company disciplinary procedures and institutes corrective action.
    • Provide specialist advice on ship repair, construction, maintenance and installation to ensure work is carried out to the correct naval standards.
    • Conduct risk assessment and ensure work is carried out in compliance to OHS Act and housekeeping requirements.
    • Ensuring that the staff are utilized effectively and efficiently.
    • Liaise with Section Manager on capacity problems and workshop clerk on administrative duties.
    • Ensure that work is completed within the estimated time, to the correct applicable standards and that all documentation is completed to ensure client satisfaction.
    • Provide technical input on specific equipment, control items, items of supply for budgetary and/or purchasing purposes.
    • Provide technical input for configuration management and control by verifying and proposing technical documentation changes relating to systems and spares
    • Undertaking of specified personnel administrative responsibilities to ensure an efficient and highly motivated workforce

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • National Technical Diploma/ National Diploma in mechanical engineering
    • Trade Certificate Pipe Fitting or Boiler making (Red seal) or Pipe Fitter Category 5 would be an added advantage

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum 5 years post qualification technical experience in the pipe fitting or Boilermaking field.
    • 2 Years Supervisory experience

    Added advantages:

    • Experience in Marine and military industrial environment.
    • Experience in the manufacturing and boat building field.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Gathering and analyzing information/data from various sources in order to determine the cause of a problems and proposing appropriate solutions.
    • Literate in interpreting technical procedures and welding standards.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.

    SPECIAL PROFICIENCY/SKILLS

    • Knowledge of various materials, applicable codes, pipe fabrication and repair techniques, and equipment used in the pipe fitting and Boilermaking trade.
    • Knowledge of the Occupational, Health and Safety Act.
    • Basic knowledge of other supporting trades such shipwrights, welding and fitting.
    • Skilled in the handling of personnel problems professionally.
    • Ability to function as part of a team.
    • Leadership abilities.
    • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.

    NDT Technician

    CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

    • Assist Engineers, Technologists and associates in field, workshop and technical office activities.
    • Promote safety in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology.
    • Produce technical designs with specifications and submit for evaluation and approval by the relevant authority.
    • Carry out NDT inspection and tests in workshops, on-board submarines, ships, pressure vessels, structural work, mechanical and electrical equipment to point out the state of the materials.
    • Provide a consulting service with respect to NDT methods to be carried out on specific projects.
    • Provide inputs into the budgeting process as required;
    • Compile and submit reports as required;
    • Provide and consolidate inputs to the technical/engineering operational plan;
    • Develop, implement and maintain databases; and
    • Supervise and control technical and related personnel and assets.
    • Continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures;
    • Research/literature studies on technical survey technology or new survey techniques to improve expertise; and
    • Liaise with relevant bodies/councils on survey-related matters.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Diploma/ National Diploma in NDT.
    • Registration with ECSA or relevant body as Engineering Technician or eligible for registration.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience in the field of NDT or Ship Surveying.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Reading and understanding of engineering drawings.
    • Basic Mechanical Engineering knowledge.
    • Material Science in-depth knowledge.

    Senior Manager: Corporate SHE

    Qualifications: 

    • Post Graduate Degree (NQF 8) in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering with SHE specialisation, or related field, or related field.

    Experience: 

    •  10+ years in SHE management, with 5 years in a middle management capacity. 
    • Proven track record in developing and implementing enterprise-wide SHE strategies, policies, and management systems, including ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management). 
    • Hands-on experience in operational SHE leadership, including incident prevention, investigations, corrective actions, audits, and compliance monitoring across multiple sites. 
    • Demonstrated expertise in waste management and environmental impact mitigation, including hazardous, non-hazardous, chemical, and e-waste management at enterprise scale. 
    • Experience in crisis management, emergency preparedness, and business continuity integration, ensuring operational resilience and regulatory compliance during incidents. 
    • Proven ability to design and lead SHE training, culture, and awareness programs across diverse teams and contractor networks. 
    • Experience engaging with regulatory authorities, statutory bodies, and external auditors, ensuring compliance and alignment with national and international standards. 

    KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS 

    • In-depth knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental management principles, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and relevant national legislation (e.g., Occupational Health & Safety Act, environmental regulations). 
    • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor enterprise-wide SHE strategies, sustainability initiatives, and waste management programs across multi-site operations. 
    • Practical understanding of hazardous, non-hazardous, chemical, and e-waste handling, disposal, reduction, and recycling practices tailored to diverse operational contexts. 
    • Proficiency in risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigation, audit management, and regulatory compliance monitoring. 
    • Knowledge of emergency preparedness, disaster recovery, and integration of SHE processes with business continuity and risk management frameworks. 
    • Skilled in overseeing multi-site operations, coordinating SHE programs, and implementing initiatives with measurable business impact.

    Senior Engineer: Electronics – RF Systems

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Essential

    • Grade 12
    • Degree in Engineering (B.Eng. / B.Sc. Eng.) (Electronics / Electrical / Mechatronics) or equivalent

    Added Advantage: 

    • Master’s degree in Engineering (with majors on telecommunications / software development / programming / radar)
    • ECSA registration

    EXPERIENCE

    Essential:

    • 7-9 years’ experience.
    • Experience with RF systems development and testing and using RF Test Equipment.
    • Experience with tracking radar design, development and testing.  
    • Experience with development or utilisation of software models in order to simulate, verify or interpret raw data or trial results.
    • Experience in developing software for integrating systems, capturing sensor data and human-machine interfaces.
    • Experience in design and development of networking solutions to integrate geographically separated sensors and systems.

    Added Advantage:

    • Experience in the military environment (defence industry).
    • Experience of working with ships or aircraft radios.

    CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREA:

    The incumbent will be responsible to perform the following functions but not limited to;

    • To design, develop and manage medium complexity RF associated projects.  
    • To develop or utilize software models in order to simulate, verify or interpret raw data or trial results.
    • To develop software for systems integration, sensor data capturing and human-machine interfaces.
    • To design networking solutions to integrate geographically separated sensors and systems.
    • To provide maintenance support to the South African Navy’s Tactical and Strategic communications systems.
    • To enhance IMT’s Maritime RF Electromagnetics Domain’s capabilities in Radar design, Ship to Ship and Ship to Shore communication.  
    • To provide a systems engineering function focused on electromagnetic systems applicable to the Maritime / Naval Environment including Radio Communications, Radar and Electronic Warfare (EW).
    • To develop solutions to complex engineering problems and document it in technical reports with recommendations for the client. 
    • To execute system tests (hardware / software) and document test results.
    • Comprehend and apply knowledge of the widely applied principles underpinning good engineering practice and specialist knowledge.
    • Be responsible for making complex engineering decisions as part of engineering activities.
    • To identify opportunities for IMT process improvement.
    • Provide expert consultancy advice and influence internal and external stakeholders on engineering/scientific activities in own area of expertise.
    • Communicate and network with client in support of IMT objectives and identify new business opportunities
    • To network with industry to be aware of latest available technology in area of expertise.
    • To undertake professional development activities, sufficient to maintain and extend competence in specified areas.
    • To mentor and share expertise with team members with less experience based on area of specialization.
    • May represent IMT on conferences, seminars and workshops.
    • Responsible for appropriate allocated ad hoc tasks (e.g., organizational, technical, sea going, diving, SHEQ, etc.)

    KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:

    • Knowledge of radar and radar EW at the systems level (Plot Extraction and Tracking, Signal Interfacing, Integration, Electronic Support Measures and Jamming).
    • Knowledge of radio communications and communications EW at the systems level (Fill Management, Secure Communications and Electronic Protection, Data Communications and Tactical Data Link integration, Signal Intelligence and Jamming).
    • Working knowledge of modelling, simulation and data processing procedures and applications and a working knowledge of engineering and scientific processes.
    • Knowledge of different signal interface standards (e.g. RS422, NMEA, Asterix, etc.), and data capture systems.
    • Knowledge of internet protocols and networking standards (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, VPNs, etc.).
    • Knowledge of AIS, ADS-B, IFF and WECDIS will be an advantage.
    • Knowledge of software Programming (C++ or C# and Python) and development.
    • Machine Learning / AI experience will be an advantage.
    • Networking principles, including TCP/IP, UDP, VPNs & NMEA knowledge. 
    • Knowledge of Techno-Military and Maritime environment.
    • Relevant Safety, Health and Environmental legislation and standards.
    • Knowledge of Acquisition Management Practices.
