    Junior Product Technologist

    Key Performance Areas:

    Project Management

    • Assist with initiating projects as requested by Marketing/ Factory
    • Ensure relevant steps are followed and deliver projects as per the brief on time and at expected costs target
    • Maintain all records
    • Coordinate and streamline communication among relevant stakeholders

    Product Development

    • Deliver on cost savings initiatives as well as product improvements
    • Keep abreast with new trends on other markets
    • Identify opportunities to re-engineer current blends
    • Liaise with suppliers

    Conduct factory trials:

    • Assist in carrying out factory trials related to raw materials
    • Ensure availability of materials
    • Assist in completing trial reports

    SAP related functions:

    • Assist with inputting of blends on SAP
    • Run relevant reports for Tea Department
    • Assist with maintaining master data
    • Initiate workflows in SAP
    • Check accuracy of supplier invoices against SAP
    • Assist with prepping and testing sample/ blends/ product
    • Support the team with all SAP related functions

    Competencies:

    Technical

    • Food technology knowledge to analyze technical data/ (Certificate of Acceptance) COA’s received from suppliers, and ensure raw materials purchased conform to all legal and company requirements

    Sensory

    • Conduct sensory trials and write up reports.
    • Sensory analysis - visual, smell and taste. (Successful candidate will be trained in tea tasting)

    Project management

    • The ability to logically think through and follow project management principles for projects from concept to completion
    • Interfacing with internal stakeholders and suppliers

    Minimum Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • Diploma in Food Technology and/or relevant food qualifications
    • Qualification in Project Management (advantageous)

    Experience

    • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in working in the food/beverage industry
    • An understanding of the impact of regulatory/statutory and professional bodies on the new and existing products would be an advantage.
    • Knowledge of sensory evaluation

    Additional requirements:

    • Communication (verbal and writing) skills
    • Ability to solve problems and methodical (logical thinking)
    • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in cross functional teams
    • Above average computer skills (Excel/ Word/ PowerPoint)
    • Proactive, analytical and leaderships skills
    • The incumbent must be able to travel independently within SA and outside SA boarders
    • Willingness to work outside normal working hours

    SHE Officer

    Key Performance Areas:

    Safety

    • Site compliance to OHS Act and other relevant regulations and legislation, including:
    • Legal appointments, SHE committee, permits
    • Set up and facilitate risk assessments sessions to reduce risks to acceptable levels
    • Visible safety leadership, including; red tagging, housekeeping, signage update programs
    • Report on and investigate all incidents and near misses
    • Contractor compliance including induction, 37(2) Mandatory agreements and COID registration control
    • Visitor induction upgrade
    • Conduct internal compliance and safety audits, report on findings and manage issue log through to completion.
    • Relevant health and safety training for staff as required, including; first aid, firefighting and SHE rep
    • Advise the 16(2) and GMR 2(1) responsible people on all SHE issues
    • Liaise with DOL and municipalities where required
    • Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and implement such changes where relevant
    • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
    • Monitor the activities of the permit to work (PTW) and ensure that it complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

    Environmental and waste management

    • List and manage aspect and impacts relating to environmental requirements
    • Supervise and control waste management contractor and report on performance

    Fire and Security risk

    • Fire and Emergency response protocol and emergency preparedness of site
    • Conduct fire drills
    • Fire equipment audits, inspections and tests
    • Co-ordinate with group risk advisory (AVI and Marsh) and facilitate audits
    • Improve practises and system to improve Marsh risk audit scoring
    • Drive loss prevention and risk reduction programs at the site.
    • Monitor and manage the security contractor
    • Manage CCTV system and interactions with ITSS to ensure continued operation of the surveillance system

    Minimum Requirements:

    Experience:                                                                   

    • 5 years’ experience in a similar role either as a SHE Officer / SHE Manager
    • Experience working within an FMCG manufacturing environment essential
    • Previous Food Manufacturing experience would be highly advantageous

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12/ Matric
    • Diploma or Degree in Safety Management / Occupational Health and Safety
    • SAMTRAC Health and Safety Course 
    • Additional courses in Safety, Health and Environmental management would be advantageous

    Additional Requirements:

    • Specialist knowledge of and practical application of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act
    • Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail and a methodical approach
    • IT literate and a comprehensive understanding of Windows-based programs including Word, Excel and Outlook is essential
    • Strong teamwork skills
    • Professional approach in dealing with issues and employees
    • Experience in implementing and maintaining the ISO 45001:2018
