    Field Digital Systems Specialist

    Job Purpose:

    • The Field Digital Systems Specialist is an integral resource in the Field Mission for seed production in South Africa, driving the implementation, administration, execution and strategies for field digital tools connected to planning, planting, detasseling and harvesting of row crop seed productions.

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for achieving the digital transformation objectives of the South Africa Commercial Seed Production team.
    • Share and drive the Vision and Mission 2030 to implementation focusing on information flow.
    • Display DSO principles in field squad. Participate in building self-directed team of high trust, cohesion, total ownership and cross-collaboration between Mission squads with a field digital focus.  
    • Coordinate Velocity, Precision planting implementation, Field View
    • and all GPS related technologies used for field works. Accountable for best practices implementation.
    • Process optimization (planting, detasseling, harvest) through improved planning and digitalization
    • Managing all software introduced in field activity that contribute to Integrated Farming System (FieldView, UAV, Harvest logistics, ASP and others)
    • Drive innovation and develop digitalization of seed production through various field projects and provide coaching and training to team to achieve targets.
    • Accelerate the development of precision agriculture on the site
    • Provide coaching and training to field team for mapping and monitoring all GPS measurements.
    • Consolidation of all data base regarding all field innovation projects to increase data driven digital approach.
    • Analyze production data and make recommendations to sustain or improve the field equipment fleet assets.
    • Automation of  reports from data warehouse in collaboration with data engineer and other data focused team members.
    • Data management to support production strategies, real time reports, performance monitoring and cost efficiency
    • Irrigation management and implement related technology.
    • Work on teams to implement improvement projects in Field mission.
    • Track field assets and their usage, guide investment strategy
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Bayer’s Health, Safety, environment (HSE) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards.
    • Comply with internal procedures and support compliance with legal requirements applicable in field activities in all regions.

    Internal:

    • Field Mission – 3 area squads, Strategy/Data/Field equipment squad
    • Field and Plant Mission leads
    • Secure & Advance unit (QMS, SSHE, Process improvement, etc)
    • Foundation seed, Planning squad, SPI-PR, QT team, Data Squad,

    External:

    • External service providers (3rd Parties)

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • BSc or relevant experience in Agricultural Science / Agronomy / Plant Science, Computer Science / Agricultural Engineering. 3-7 years experience
    • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
    • Strong experience in seed production workflows
    • Strong technical experience with precision field equipment
    • Experience in leading digital initiatives in agriculture or biotechnology.
    • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to conduct, monitor, analyze and evaluate data and communicate results (Velocity, Spotfire).
    • Strong communication, training and coaching skills
    • AVCASA Certification advantageous

    Production Technician

    Job Purpose:

    • Maintaining the plant to keep production levels and equipment availability at an optimum level
    • Maintaining autonomous maintenance in the plant and the first response before escalating to maintenance
    • Plant Automation & digitalization support
    • Back up to shift leads

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure multiple activities are executed accurately, to Bayer’s high standards and in time as planned by Maintenance Planner.
    • Train operators and follow correct procedures, safety codes and LOTO
    • Provide and ensure supervision and assistance of contractors in the plants
    • Conduct general building repairs and maintenance inspections and raise Job notifications
    • Upskill operators on autonomous maintenance and maintain interval service schedules for all production units
    • Liquids Formulation & filling, as well as Solids plant
    • Seek continuous growth/learning opportunities to further own skills and knowledge.
    • Provide technical and organizational co-ordination and control of user defined maintenance repairs and service activities at the plant/site in line with plans developed by Plant Engineer and Maintenance Planner in accordance with Bayer best practices.
    • Manage maintenance and production schedules, related to production plants
    • Be the link between production and maintenance, by following all job card from start to end
    • Have specialist knowledge of:
    • General machinery and equipment
    • Digital Networks (support IT Production with IT related topics and training on new systems)
    • Basic automation
    • Lean tools and systems
    • Autonomous Maintenance
    • Responds to emergency problems in the plant and makes emergency repairs as needed (call out and standby)
    • Assist with shutdown planning and in conjunction with the maintenance department.
    • Makes recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Artisan with Matric and Engineering qualification in electrical or mechanical as artisan.
    • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance, repairs and installations
    • Knowledge doing faultfinding on multidisciplinary systems
    • Sound knowledge and experience in the type of machinery he/she is required to work on it.
    • Perform Autonomous Maintenance in the Production Units
    • Upskill operators in minor autonomous maintenance and set-up of machines
    • Responsible for ensuring all Production Job Cards, are executed, within the required timelines
    • Experience in Manufacturing- and Plant Automation systems including software skills in areas such as MES,
    • SCADA, PLC, etc. Will be advantageous

    Africa Pre-Commercial Seeds Supply Planner

    Main Purpose:

    • In charge of End-to-End crop plan and inventory planning for Africa Foundation Seeds incl. Licensing, Experimental and TELA 
    • Strives for visibility on future and actual foundation seed availability starting from crop plan building and validation to availability monitoring, including in-season supervision of quantity and quality of batches used for Foundation Seed
    • Liaise with Africa Product Mission Teams, Commercial Planners and Global Parent Seed team to ensure the required volumes of Foundation seed is produced for all relevant parties
    • Brits preferred location; Waterfall an alternative one with a regular travel to Brits

    Key Working Relations:

    • Reports to EMEA Supply Planning Lead

    Works closely with:

    • Foundation Seed Leads, Pre-Foundation Manager, Africa Product Portfolio Managers
    • Supply and Product Mission Teams
    • Breeding, Quality, R&D, Regulatory, Commercial, SCM functions

    Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
    Foundation, Experimental & Licensing Planning

    • Responsible for driving and managing foundation, experimental, TELA and licensing Crop Plans in line with Africa demands and inventories to ensure a reliable production. Support Breeding with pre-foundational crop planning
    • Collaborate with Foundation Seed Lead, Field Operations Manager & Warehouse Manager to define production planning operations, planting plan scheduling and allocation to the appropriate areas for accurate and on-time availability
    • Provide feedback to all relevant stakeholders with queries related to the stock volumes, availability timelines and shipment of Foundation Seed and Experimental hybrids
    • Coordinate sourcing (imports & exports) of foundation seed to/from global partners and customers.
    • Maintain export production file (flow file) and communicate latest updates.

    Inventory management / Deterioration & Obsolescence

    • Assist with control and steering of Foundation seed inventory and D&O reporting (periodic D&O forecast, inventory and D&O optimization ideas to optimize inventory levels and reduce costs)
    • Facilitate decision taking in Product advancement (Pre-PMT & PMT) processes by supporting with inputs on Pre-Foundation and Foundation availabilities in Africa. Work with Master Data to facilitate material creation for new varieties. 
    • Monitor levels of seed availability, and liaise with Pre-FND to keep seed stocks of each generation at adequate levels

    Process improvement and Operational Excellence

    • Contribute to process improvements and/or new tools implementation in the planning team
    • Support reaching overall goals for the region by driving operational excellence in planning
    • Support business with requests to AG - Excellence and maintain data for varieties, inbreds, pedigree and yields in enterprise systems & databases
    • Maintain updated ISO9001 documents and processes and ensure that compliance status is maintained

    Skills & Qualifications (education, skills, experience):

    • BA/MA degree or equivalent, preferably with focus in Supply; alternatively equivalent working experience
    • 5+ years of experience in Planning, Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and/or Finance
    • Knowledge of Seeds business and Agriculture industry

    Key Competencies:

    • Strong planning and organizational skills. Can deal with complexity 
    • Ability to drive decision making in cross-functional teams
