Role Objective:

• We are looking for a dynamic Development Technologist to work closely with our Product Developer. In this role, you will ensure that all technical and regulatory compliance requirements are met across projects and innovation initiatives. You will be responsible for seeing multiple concurrent projects through from concept to factory implementation, which involves collaborating with internal teams such as Operations, QA, Procurement, and Sales, as well as liaising with external partners including suppliers and customers. The role requires high-level thinking and problem-solving to overcome challenges throughout the development process, while ensuring that all products meet the required regulatory, quality, and safety standards.

Key Functional Duties:

• Keep abreast of, relevant regulations and research new concepts, trends, market activity and innovation related to the products we produce and we sell
• Support in developing successful, commercially viable products that are sustainable and in line with the trends and intended target market
• Project manage and assist in executing all stages of the product development process within given deadlines to ensure the product is launched on time and all details recorded is accurate and meets customer requirements.
• Ensure product conforms to country of sale specific regulations on product and packaging.
• Support in sustainable sourcing of new raw materials and packaging from compliant suppliers
• Perform supplier approval of new ingredients and suppliers linked to the project you work on
• Ensure NPD compliance is in line with company certifications, for both tea, spice and groceries. Work collaboratively with Product Developer to maintain & update accordingly.
• Creating and maintaining product specifications & in process specifications
• Review of product labels & specifications / standards for customer and legislative compliance.
• Support in liaising & thorough communication between internal operational departments on all new projects to ensure effective launches (production briefings).
• Support in effective execution of launches within internal departments.
• Technical support in problem solving within the department and to internal departments.
• Recipe tastings & testing of products to ensure that product is safe and of acceptable quality.
• Lead in factory trials, travel tests and shelf life.

Education & Required Knowledge:
Below qualification or equivalent. 1 – 2 years’ work experience:

• Food Technology
• Consumer Science
• Bsc Food Science

Advantageous experience in:

• Project Management
• Product Development
• Computer Literacy (Microsoft office)
• Excel Fluency – Intermediate level
• Microsoft 365 experience advantageous (Sharepoint)
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English
• Own Transport required + Valid drivers license

Purpose of the job:

• The Accountant is responsible for assisting in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting financial reporting and operational efficiency. The role places a strong emphasis on asset management, lease accounting, ERP system integrity, and timely reporting.

Key Functional Areas:

Non-Current Assets & Fixed Asset Management

• Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register and wear and tear register, ensuring completeness and accuracy
• Account for additions, disposals, and transfers of assets in accordance with company policy and accounting standards
• Review and validate depreciation and amortisation Syspro schedules, performing recalculations where necessary
• Perform regular asset verifications and ensure proper asset tagging and tracking
• Oversee annual useful life reviews and ensure correct application of appropriate adjustments
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards for non-current assets

Instalment Sale Agreements

• Maintain, manage and account for instalment sale agreements, ensuring adherence to accounting requirements
• Ensure accurate allocation between capital and interest components
• Reconcile instalment sale balances and ensure correct interest rates are applied

Reporting

• Assist in preparation of monthly management accounts
• Ensure consistency and reliability of reporting information

Month-End Processes

• Assist with executing month-end roll-over procedures within the ERP system
• Prepare and post journals and complete analysis for Insurance & Repairs and Maintenance
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations with supporting documentation
• Adherence to month-end timelines and deadlines

Board Pack / Profit Forecast (PF) Compilation

• Assist with Compiling and preparing Board packs
• Provide support schedules, analysis and commentary for key calculations
• Assist with preparation of annual budgets and PF updates

Insurance

• Liaise with insurers and brokers regarding policy renewals, claims, and policy amendments
• Ensure all assets and operations are appropriately insured and company risk exposure is clarified
• Arrange required Insurance confirmations for Customers and Quality Audits

Risk Register

• Assist with maintaining and updating the company risk register, ensuring all key risks are identified, assessed, and regularly reviewed
• Work with relevant departments to monitor risk mitigation actions and ensure accountability

Audit

• Assist with internal and external audit requests as required

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 5 years’ relevant accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards (including IFRS)
• Experience working with ERP systems
• Advanced Excel skills

Desired Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience working with ERP (Syspro) systems and integrated systems (Barcode scanning) will be an advantage
• Computer literate: MS Office (Intermediate / Advanced Excel / Pivot Tables, Power BI advantageous)
• Articles will be an advantage

Key Functional Areas 

• Creation and/or updating and maintenance of raw material, packaging, in-process and finished product specifications for tea & spice products  
• Assist in conducting factory trials, travel tests and 1st productions on new lines 
• Liaise & review supplier’s technical documentation on new suppliers / raw materials required in new developments. Liaise with suppliers on Cape Herb & Spice requirements  
• Create, coordinate and maintain new sample requirements  
• Technical support to other departments: QA, Operations and Sales alike 
• Support in the meticulous execution of the Development Process by following procedures 
• Assist with supplier presentations and meeting minutes  
• Ensure product detail on internal system, in departments and on shared drive are all accurate and product is as per customer requirement  
• Support in the execution of shelf-life testing as set out in the shelf-life schedule 
• Execute technical projects  
• Executing the Supplier Quality Assurance process 
• In addition, if required temporary duties may be allocated, provided these are in keeping with his/her scope   

Required Prior Learning/Experience: 

• Advanced Diploma Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Consumer Science or Professional Cookery as a minimum/bachelor's degree in a relative field 
• 1 - 2 years' experience in the Food Manufacturing Industry 
• Experience in Project Management 

License & Certifications: 

• Valid driver's license
• Own vehicle
