    Data Engineer

    Job Description

    The Cloud Data Engineer will play a critical implementation role on the Data Engineering and Data Products team and be responsible for data pipeline solutions design and development, troubleshooting, and optimization tuning on the next generation data and analytics platform being developed with leading edge big data technologies in a highly secure cloud infrastructure. The Cloud Data Engineer will serve as a liaison to platform user groups ensuring successful implementation of capabilities on the new platform.

    Data Engineer Responsibilities

    • Deliver end-to-end data and analytics capabilities, including data ingest, data transformation, data science, and data visualization in collaboration with Data and Analytics stakeholder groups
    • Design and deploy databases and data pipelines to support analytics projects
    • Develop scalable and fault-tolerant workflows
    • Clearly document issues, solutions, findings and recommendations to be shared internally & externally
    • Learn and apply tools and technologies proficiently, including:
    • Languages: SQL (standard and DB-specific), Python, Scala, Bash
    • Frameworks: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka
    • Cloud Computing: AWS
    • Tools/Products: Data Science Studio, Alteryx, Jupyter , Tableau, PowerBI
    • Performance optimization for queries and dashboards
    • Develop and deliver clear, compelling briefings to internal and external stakeholders on findings, recommendations, and solutions
    • Analyze client data & systems to determine whether requirements can be met
    • Test and validate data pipelines , transformations, datasets, reports, and dashboards built by team
    • Develop and communicate solutions architectures and present solutions to both business and technical stakeholders
    • Provide end user support to other data engineers and analysts

    Candidate Requirements

    • Expert experience in the following:
    • SQL, Python, PySpark . Other programming languages (R, Scala, SAS, Java, etc.) are a plus
    • D ata and analytics technologies including SQL/NoSQL/Graph databases , ETL, and BI
    • Knowledge of CI/CD and related tools such as Gitlab, AWS CodeCommit , etc
    • AWS services including EMR, Glue, Athena, Batch, Lambda Cloudwatch , DynamoDB , EC2, Cloudformation , IAM and EDS
    • Solid scripting skills (e.g., bash/shell scripts, Python)
    • Proven work experience in the following:
    • Data streaming technologies
    • Big Data technologies including, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Teradata , etc.
    • Linux command-line operations
    • Networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, virtualization)
    • Candidate should be able to lead the team, communicate with business, gather and interpret business requirements
    • Experience with agile delivery methodologies using Jira or similar tools
    • Experience working with remote teams
    • AWS Solutions Architect / Developer / Data Analytics Specialty certifications, Professional certification is a plus
    • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science relevant field, Masters Degree is a plus

    Job Description

    The Data and Analytics Products role is part data analyst, part business analyst, part consultant, and part product manager. This role is a good fit for critical thinkers who like to serve as a hands-on liaison between business stakeholders, product managers, analysts and engineers. You like to see initiatives through from beginning to end and ensure value has been delivered and problems solved. You can see the big picture including how business processes and client needs may be impacted and platform technologies can be applied.

    The Data and Analytics Products professional will wear different hats depending on the nature and state of the project. The role involves requirements gathering from cross-functional stakeholders, application of critical thinking to ideate feasible solutions, hands on data analysis, and clear concise documentation of findings and recommendations. The role further involves heavy collaboration with the data engineering and analysis delivery team including facilitation of stakeholder engagement and user acceptance testing.

    The Data and Analytics Products professional must be an expert communicator, comfortable asking questions, persistent in getting answers, and skilled in assimilating information. . Likewise, they are analytically minded and business oriented and can develop detailed business use-cases and technical requirements alike. The ideal candidate is a self-starter; driven, confident, collaborative, and seeks to continue building their data and analytics product delivery leadership skills and experience in a highly facilitative role.

    Business Analysis and Consulting

    As a Member Of The Team That Enables Delivery Of Data And Analytics Products And Solutions, You Will Be Responsible For Some Or All Of The Following Tasks

    • Directly engage with stakeholders in structured conversations gaining insights to understand what their needs and opinions are.
    • Enable and facilitate delivery partnerships with business stakeholders, engineers, analysts, operators, and others as needed to execute cross-functional initiatives
    • Assess, capture, and translate complex business issues and requirements into a structured data and analytics use case s
    • Execute detailed due diligence to support methodology development and assessment of solution feasibility for data and analytics initiatives
    • Advise and collaborate on project scoping and planning
    • Proactively engage in value-add relationships with business stakeholders and clients
    • Utilize an agile and iterative problem-solving approach to guide product roadmaps, product definitions, and solutions.
    • Ensure all initiatives are aligned with the strategic goals of the company and work is prioritized based on quarterly objectives
    • Create engaging, thoughtful and clear presentations and memos

    Data and Analytics Products/Solutions Delivery

    While You Will Have Support From Team Members Who Are Specifically Expert In Data Science, Data Engineering, Platform Solution Architecture/engineering, And Project Management, You Will Be Personally Responsible For The End-to-end Oversight And Delivery Of Successful Data And Analytics Initiatives Including

    • Industry research to formalize the right analytical questions, establish benchmarks and baselines, and determine possible solutions
    • Develop innovative solutions with cross-functional teams to meet business needs.
    • Be intellectually curious and collaborate in piloting new approaches to generate data and analytic value and alignment with business pain points.
    • Execute SQL queries and use other data and analysis tools, including basic AWS components (S3, Redshift), to perform data and analytic due diligence
    • Ensure that Envestnet business stakeholders and clients derive value throughout their engagement with our team
    • Ensure that every deliverable “wows” our stakeholders and clients; including pitching in on projects that you aren’t assigned to on a day-to-day basis.
    • Help elevate the insights, skills and careers of the team members around you.

    Candidates Requirements

    • Minimum of five years of data analytics and project leadership experience with a professional services firm, an internal strategy/analytics group, or similar client-serving role; financial services experience is preferred
    • Experience in leading a project with the ability to communicate requirements with the team members and meet deadlines in a timely manner
    • Demonstrated data and analytics solution design and strong business consulting acumen in applying data and analytics to solve business issues.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain analytical and technical concepts, plans, and roadmaps to business people including C-level executives
    • Strong capacity to explain business processes, concepts, challenges, and issues to technical resources.
    • Open to travel as much as 25% of time
    • Strong SQL expertise
    • Python or other programming languages (R, Scala/Spark, SAS, Java, etc.) are a plus
    • Strong data analysis skills with solid knowledge of math, statistics and/or probabilities
    • Experience with agile delivery methodologies
    • Experience working in teams guided by Jira projects/ tasks and or KanBan
    • Experience with technologies such as the following a plus
      • Data and analytics technologies, including RDBMS, ETL, and BI
      • Hadoop, PySpark, Hive, Teradata or other big data technologies
      • Linux command-line and bash scripting
      • Data streaming technologies, including Kafka, Spark Streaming
      • AWS services specially in EMR, Athena, Lambda, S3, Glue, SageMaker, Redshift
    • Master’s degree in Business Analytics or similar -or- 4 years in Wealth Management Data Domain
      • In lieu of these, a bachelor's degree in math/science/other related field and 6 years' experience in Analytics and Data Science field
