    Underwriting Manager: SMME (Guarantees)

    Role Purpose    

    • Responsible for the underwriting of a portfolio of clients for the Construction Bonds & Guarantees division for the SMME and Mid-Corporate clients portfolio.

    Requirements    

    • An undergraduate diploma/degree (BCom, BSc Eng, LLB or similar)
    • A postgraduate diploma/degree (MBA, MCom, MSc Eng, or similar) – preferable
    • Certificate in Short-Term Insurance (or working towards it)
    • RE 5 Certificate for Representatives (or working towards it)
    • FAIS compliant (or working towards it)
    • At least 5 years underwriting experience in the guarantees/trade banking/reinsurance industry in South Africa
    • Knowledge of contract guarantees business in South Africa

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Underwriting of guarantee transactions for the SMME and Mid-Corporate clients across South Africa.
    • Member of the underwriting risk committee for the Construction Bonds & Guarantees division.
    • Preparation of thorough and detailed underwriting reports.
    • Underwriting of guarantees within the designated operational mandate.
    • Oversee the SMME and Mid-Corporate portfolio of existing clients across the Construction Bonds & Guarantees division.
    • Grow the Construction Bonds & Guarantees book of business in the SMME and Mid-Corporate team segment.
    • Management of the construction bonds & guarantees in the SMME and Mid-Corporate team (portfolio managers/underwriters).
    • Mentoring & training the Construction Bonds & Guarantees team members in the SMME and Mid-Corporate.
    • Pursue relevant growth opportunities that would allow the Guarantees division to achieve its strategic targets and objectives.
    • Ensure that existing relationships with brokers and other role players are strengthened and built on a continuous basis.
    • Ensure that new relationships are established to support the growth plans of the greater Guarantees division.
    • Build, maintain and continuously strengthen all relationships with the MMH Group’s product, support, reinsurance as well as broker partners.
    • Ensure that all regular interactions with any of the MMH Group’s reinsurance, broker or product partners are done at the highest possible level of professionalism.
    • Stay abreast of developments in the construction, surety, guarantee & related markets.
    • Maintain professional relationships with all customers, suppliers and trade connections of the MMH Group with a view to maintain and improve the group’s reputation and goodwill.

    Head: Non-Life Pricing & Structuring (Cell Captive)

    Role Purpose    

    • The Non-Life Pricing & Structuring (Cell Captive) team looks at providing technical support in the form of pricing, product development and the capital structuring of new business prospects.

    Requirements    

    • Qualified or nearly qualified actuary (FASSA or equivalent international designation).
    • Successful completion of F103 (General Insurance Principles) or equivalent short-term insurance exam.
    • Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field (NQF Level 7+).
    • At least of 5–8 years’ experience in the non-life (short-term) insurance industry.
    • Strong working knowledge of actuarial pricing techniques and product structuring principles.
    • Exposure to the SAM capital regime.

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Provide strategic leadership to the Non-Life Pricing & Structuring (Cell Captive) team, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
    • Take accountability for all product development, pricing frameworks, and structuring initiatives across the CRS and VUMA portfolios.
    • Review, approve, and sign off on pricing models for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with regulatory, professional, and internal governance standards.
    • Lead rate reviews and re-pricing exercises for the existing product suite to maintain technical soundness and market competitiveness.
    • Oversee the assessment and approval of new product offerings, ensuring they are commercially viable and compliant.
    • Partner with internal teams to structure new deals - providing actuarial input on optimal underwriting and capital structuring solutions tailored to client needs.
    • Support clients in the design and development of bespoke products, with a focus on innovation, profitability, and sustainability.
    • Manage financial performance reporting, including monitoring product profitability and adherence to best-practice actuarial standards.
    • Act as a senior technical advisor to both clients and internal stakeholders, translating complex actuarial insights into actionable business decisions.

    Actuarial Specialist: Pricing (Life)

    Role Purpose    

    • You’ll play a key role at Guardrisk, collaborating with clients and internal teams to review and sign off on new and evolving products and pricing. The role involves technical pricing across a range of life insurance products, as well as deal structuring, client engagement, and tackling complex business problems.

    Requirements    

    • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science
    • Completion of all A1 and A2 technical actuarial subjects
    • Completion of Actuarial Risk Management (A301/CA1)
    • At least 1 – 3 years actuarial work experience
    • Life-insurance pricing experience preferred

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Assist with the pricing of new and existing group and individual life insurance products
    • Develop technical pricing models with a focus on life insurance products
    • Assist with reviewing new products in line with regulatory and professional guidelines
    • Assist with the structuring of new products and deals
    • Engage clients and internal stakeholders on technical matters
