    Electronics Senior Technician (Internal and External Advert) Hay Level 15/C4

    Job Requirements

    MAINTENANCE OF REACTOR AND IRRIDATION FASCILITIES (IPR RIGS,BEAM LINES, PNEUMATICS, RINGAS AND SILICON RIG)  

    • Maintenance efficiency and reliability of reactor systems Including irradiation facilities
    • Assist the instrumentation section head with management of the instrumentation maintenance workshop and subordinates (6 artisans/technicians, 2 Students, ±10 contractors and all SAFARI-1 personnel for instrumentation maintenance related tasks), planning and coordinating maintenance activities and job cards as required in accordance with the various specifications of the SAR, maintenance program, legislative and regulatory requirements.
    • The primary task is to ensure that all scheduled maintenance activities, performed during shutdown periods, are attended to and completed in time and accurately. Any breakdowns need to receive immediate attention and often require innovation and original ideas to find solutions for sometimes complex problems. Assist with maintenance and repair work on various Programmable Logic
    • Develop, implement and maintain a maintenance schedule for all systems to ensure regular upkeep and prevent unplanned downtime.
    • Coordinate and prioritise scheduled maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and emergency repairs to minimize production downtime.
    • Responding at all hours of the day and night to ensure that the plant down time is limited to an absolute minimum - providing immediate solutions to keep the plant operational within safe and acceptable limits. The incumbent will be placed on routine standby duty or as needed according to the NECSA overtime and stand-by duty policy.
    • Perform specialized task as requested on the maintenance request program

    Plan and perform maintenance as per MPR and AD Hoc data base

    • Ensure that quick and accurate calibrations are performed on an ongoing basis during shutdown periods in conjunction with the various quality and maintenance systems and programmers
    • Support all members of the maintenance team as required. Support with maintenance on radiation facilities.
    • Assist with conducting technical investigations and fault-finding plant equipment and or facilities as well as commercial processes.
    • Ensure that maintenance equipment is in good condition and use calibrated equipment, when required.
    • Administrate the maintenance store(s) to ensure that critical items are available and controlled as required.

    Replacement refurbishment and upgrade of reactor plant equipment as per schedule

    • Addressing ageing management, plant upgrade and modification issues, together with demands for new installations.
    • Support with modification of reactor components and equipment.
    • The incumbent is routinely required to assist with solving engineering and facility problems. 
    • Support the FE group with specialised projects and on development of new facilities

    Regulatory compliance as per OTS and SAR

    • Reports non-conformances and incidents on equipment and facilities and ensure that corrective and preventative actions are followed up (including radiological and conventional safety, products, and nuclear incidents on equipment and facilities).
    • Follow-up preventive and corrective actions as required from the maintenance request program.

    MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS        

    SHEQ systems: Up to date and effective implementation of level 3 documents/drawings/critical spare list, FM system and literature system. CR job permit system, quarterly report

    • Maintain an effective documentation and records system on completed maintenance work including the updating of instrumentation drawings

    Safety HSE/NNR Audit reports 

    • Provide support during compliance audits, both internal and external.

    Attendance of SHEQ sessions

    • Continual support and attendance to the SAFARI-1 SHEQ training.

    BBS participation

    • Continual support to the behavioural base safety system of NECSA including ensuring that IM staff commit to good behavioural base safety practises and standards.

    Budget control YE

    • Purchasing – Assist with controlling purchasing of materials/spares for all upgrades/modifications and non-routine maintenance. Liaises with suppliers to ensure that the most suitable item or equipment is obtained at the best possible price.

    Completion and checking of all scheduled check list

    • Management of checklists and completion of checklist tasks of exceptionally high standard ensuring all weekly, monthly, yearly, 2-Yearly, etc. checklists are handed in accurately and timeously.

    • Adherence to NECSA HR policies and procedures by all IM staff including minimising sick leave misuse.

    Internal training/programs technical support, Artisans and Technicians)

    Training in accordance with IDP

    • Keep abreast of developments in own subject by attending colloquia, courses, training sessions and through literature.

    •  Thorough knowledge of nuclear facilities and the various regulatory requirements.
    • Analytical Skills (Analytical Thinking Skills). The above mentioned require a thorough and wide-ranging knowledge with a view to analysing, interpreting problems or faults and implementing maintenance activities w.r.t. the prescribed requirements in a nuclear environment.

    • The incumbent must be medically fit as it is required of him/her to be registered as a radiation, chemical and noise worker.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • National Diploma in Electronics.

    Minimum Experience

    • At least 5 years applicable experience in an electronic circuit’s trouble shooting environment with a thorough knowledge regarding functioning, capabilities, programming, maintenance and repair of PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers).
    • Pc board level repair work.
    • Pc board repair and soldering.
    • Electronic, computer and process control experience.
    • Computer literate preferably with good programming skills.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience

    • N6 and Trade test in Instrumentation.
    • At least 2 years’ experience with a thorough knowledge regarding nuclear instrumentation and or systems as well as aspects related to quality assurance and environmental control systems (regulatory and legislative requirements) in a nuclear facility.
