    Chief Researcher

    Key Performance Areas

    Knowledge Dissemination

    • Capture research work done in written format; as initiator and primary author, and co-author via regular progress reports, annual progress reports, international conference papers and contributions, journal publications, substantial research and contract client reports, etc.
    • Consistently report research results orally to project leads and at international conferences/meetings
    • Initiate publications, through supervision or as project leader, in the field of expertise.
    • Represent Necsa at appropriate local and international forums with regard to computational support to the MPR project.
    • Collaborate with other experts on projects, workshops or international nuclear bodies both locally and internationally.
    • Perform work at the level of achieving international recognition in field of expertise via collaborative projects, involvement in workshops and/or international nuclear bodies

    Human Capital Development Local and International

    • Mentor staff members in areas of specialisation.
    • Lead research teams.
    • Support, if required, MSc and PhD level students and mentor colleagues to higher levels of career progression.
    • Establish strategic partnerships and collaborate with academia to further the image of Necsa and enhance the technology development pipeline.

    Contribution to NECSA business processes

    • Initiate and execute research tasks with no supervision.
    • Initiate and lead large scale research programs/projects.
    • Project scope at this level should include large research programs spanning at least 2-3 years.
    • Create know-how that is of commercial and or strategic value to Necsa and which can be further exploited by the relevant Necsa structures.
    • Establish strategic partnerships with industry and scientific bodies that add clear value to Necsa business and the National System of Innovation (NSI). 
    • Support applications forresearch funding applicable to Necsa projects.

    SHEQ and other audits

    • Maintain compliance to Business Process Management System.
    • Ensure that safety and quality processes are adhered to in directed projects.
    • Engage in processes aimed at improving safety, quality and security, e.g. Discipline manager and its associated responsibilities, licencing an operational compliance for NNR and SAHPRA.

    Financial Management

    • Develop project budget as project leader and stay within project budget or portion of assigned budget.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Academic

    • MSc/MEng/MTech in Science or Engineering
    • PhD/DTech in Science or Engineering considered an advantage.

    Minimum experience required

    • 8-10 years research experience in radiation and reactor analysis, of which:
    • 2-3 years in scientific project coordination, and further includes:
    • 2 to 3 years in project leadership;
    • 2 to 3 years in technology development;
    • 3 to 4 years of experience in human capital development.

    Facilities Assistant - NTP Maintenance (Hay Level 12/C1)

    Job Requirements

    Facility Management

    • Effective Maintenance of NTP facilities, building infrastructure according to policies and procedures, Ensure that NTP’s needs in this regard are met.
    • Provide facilities management support for existing and new infrastructure development.
    • Obtain Copies from Design and Drawing Services for new and old drawings relating to the infrastructure.
    • Consult Electrical Engineering Services for electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
    • Configuration SHEQ documents for control of Building and Civil Projects.
    • Co-Ordinate Maintenance Services for routine ventilation (Air-conditioning), plumbing and general maintenance projects.
    • Execute office space allocations and utilisation.
    • Ensure that customer’s requirements are met within the compliance framework assigns and manage NTP parking bay allocation.

    Procurement Management

    • Obtain quotations for goods or services.
    • Submit purchase requisitions on workflow and obtain approval via line management.
    • Procure goods or services in accordance with procurement policies, procedures and legal requirements.
    • Verifies that goods and services delivered are within specifications and according to the requirements.
    • Ensure invoices and acceptance certificates for payment are signed off for services rendered and approved for payment by FM Co-Coordinator.

    Effective Maintenance Project Delivery

    • Assist the Project manager with maintenance, rectification and remedial work.
    • Coordinate maintenance projects to ensure delivery of results anticipated within time,  
    • functionality and budgetary requirements.
    • Resolve issues and solve problems related to maintenance delivery issues to preserve a positive image of the NTP.
    • Ensure appropriate project controls and processes are in place.
    • Track and report on project milestones and provide regular status reports.
    • Monitoring of service levels and work performed by contractors follow up on any deficiencies
    • Ensure that suppliers adhere to administrative process for invoicing and payments 

     Health and Safety

    • Ensure that all building areas are in compliance with OHSA, with emergency exits clearly marked.
    • Ensure that personal protective equipment is issued and maintained on a regular basis.
    • Ensure that the facility-related safety issues that arise at the Health and Safety committee are resolved.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • N4 Engineering/National Certificate Facilities or Administration 

    Minimum Experience

    • At least 3 years within Maintenance and Facilities Management Environment.
    • Work orders processing experience 
    • Contractor supervision experience

    Technician: Organic (Hay Level 13/C2)

    Key Performance Areas

    Financial recovery and sustainability

    • Carry out job cards activities (sampling, routine calibrations, lab analysis, lab test work, etc.) allocated to him or her and finalise these according to approved schedules and requests
    • Generate lab reports for the work performed and perform cross checks to ensure results are accurate and reliable.
    • Provide weekly feedback the Section head or team leader in terms of status of work assigned.
    • Complete and submit accurate timesheets for the work done in the lab to enable cost recovery

    Lab availability:

    • Report timeously lab equipment defect noticed in the lab
    • Perform intermediate checks independently to ensure quality assurances for work performed.
    • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory instrumentation in the section.
    • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced by updating the stock list and report the section head which consumables/items to be procured
    • Update quality control charts to verify accuracy of results.

    Product Development aspect:

    • Contribute technical inputs to the development/ improvement project and attending project meetings when required
    • Perform activities assigned to him/her according to approved project schedule.

    OHS, QMS and Compliance aspects:

    • Perform calibrations in compliance to all applicable instructions and procedures. Adhere to the requirements of the quality system in the laboratory such as QM, Procedures and SANAS requirements.
    • Maintain general laboratory facilities according to the ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System (inventory, waste disposal, sample registration, sample handing, training records etc.).
    • Assist section head with the review or updating information for development and implementation of laboratory operational methods and procedures as requested
    • Undertake actions assigned to him/her to close out NCR’s or implement corrective measures following approved action plan
    • Ensure cleanness and good housekeeping in the work environment where he/she is operating
    • Perform activities required in order to fulfil the BBS requirements in the workplace as contracted by manager/section head

    Human Capital Development aspects:

    • Adhere to the individual training matrix/plans to ensure that new knowledge is acquired.
    • Keep required professional certification or recognition for his/her job updating.
    • Provide technical assistance to the process of training interns and other trainees in the laboratory
    • Attend identified courses to increase knowledge required in the laboratory
    • Apply to become a SANAS technical signatory.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Diploma Analytical Chemistry
    • BTech/Advanced Diploma in Analytical Chemistry will be an added advantage

    Minimum Experience:

    • At least 1-2 years’ experience in laboratory environment
    • 1-2 years of experience working with chromatography instruments such as GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, IC, etc. in an Organic lab1 year experience on Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and Word

    Artisan Assistant Decommissioning Services X5 (Hay Level 09/B2)

    Job Requirements:

    Financial Management 

    • Ensure that the Inventory of PPE & Equipment issued to them is monitored

    Stakeholder Management

    • Assists the Artisan to performed facility specific and task specific inspections as required by Care & Maintenance programs, SHEQ, NILs. 
    • Perform facility Inspections  
    • Ensure that prescribed PPE is in good working order to performing activities  
    • Ensure that the individual statutory training is attended, passed and records updated
    • Report events and non-conformances to supervisor

    Internal Processes

    • Assist the Artisan to perform the planned decommissioning activities.  
    • Assist the Artisan to remove and batch of waste as well as equipment during decommissioning projects to ensure that the correct waste removal processes and procedures are followed in line with statutory requirements.
    • Assist the Artisan to categorise and sort all the different decommissioned materials into applicable drums on a daily basis to ensure easy removal and correct storage.
    • Assist Artisan to inspect and maintain own equipment and tools to ensure proper functioning.
    • Ensure that all radioactive waste is monitored and labelled as such. 
    • Ensure proper housekeeping in the areas where work is maintained

    Learning and Development

    • Ensure that they keep the completed Individual Development Plans (IDP) adhered to.
    • Ensure that training and courses booked are attended and passed or declared competent.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Grade 12
    • Code EB/CB driver’s license.

    Minimum Experience:

    • 2 years in general maintenance environment and decommissioning work
