    Legal and Compliance Officer

    • The Legal and Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the organization operates in full compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards. This role involves providing legal guidance, overseeing compliance programs, and mitigating legal risks to protect the organization’s interests. The officer will collaborate with internal teams, monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations, and manage risk mitigation strategies to maintain legal and regulatory compliance across all functions of the business.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Compliance Management:

    • Develop, implement, and monitor compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and internal standards
    • Oversee compliance audits and ensure corrective actions are taken in response to findings
    • Conduct training sessions for staff to raise awareness of legal and regulatory requirements
    • Ensure the company’s practices align with industry standards and best practices for compliance

    Legal Advisory:

    • Provide legal advice and support to senior management, business units, and departments on a wide range of legal matters, including contract law, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory matters
    • Review and draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the organization’s interests
    • Assess potential legal risks related to business activities, contracts, partnerships, and transactions

    Risk Management:

    • Identify legal and regulatory risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks
    • Monitor and analyse changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company’s operations
    • Advise on the legal implications of strategic business decisions, including mergers, acquisitions, and expansions

    Regulatory Liaison:

    • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, government agencies, and industry associations
    • Ensure timely and accurate submissions of reports, filings, and other regulatory requirements
    • Represent the company in dealings with regulators and manage responses to investigations or enforcement actions

    Minimum Requirements:         

    • Relevant degree
    • 5 years + experience in a legal and compliance role preferably in a corporate environment
    • In depth knowledge of laws, regulations and standards
    • Superb written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong legal analytical skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to work under pressure

    Safety Officer

    • To assist the manager with the day-to-day management of all health and safety compliance matters. Hold the legal appointment in terms of the MHS Act regulation 2.17.1 (Appointment of Safety Officers). Carry out all duties and functions of the Safety Officer as contemplated in the MHS Act regulation 2.19.1.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Effective implementation and monitoring of all safety process
    • Participate in internal risk assessment process
    • Conduct inspections to determine and improve level of compliance to health and safety regulations
    • Investigate accidents and incidents
    • Inform stakeholders with regard to the status of health and safety at the Mine
    • Accompany the inspector of Mines during compliance inspections on the mine and participate in DMRE enquiries
    • Participate in SHE related meetings and safety awareness campaigns
    • Gather input/data for SHE reports and statistics according to organisational requirements
    • Conduct internal audits according to organisational procedures and legislative requirements
    • Maintain the SHE Risk Management System according to organisational requirements
    • Log inspections, incidents, accidents, and audits
    • Effective Contractor safety management
    • Emergency Preparedness and response

    Minimum Requirements:

    • National Diploma in Safety Management (NADSAM) or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety
    • 2 to 3 years’ experience in Coal Processing Plant and Underground Mining Environment
    • Risk Assessment Training
    • Environmental Awareness Training Course
    • COMSOC I & II (Advantage)
    • Advanced computer literacy
    • Accident investigations (ICAM/RCAT)
    • Valid First Aid Training Certificate
    • Valid Driver’s License (Code EB/08)
    • Blasting Ticket (advantageous)
    • Sound verbal and written communication skills in English
    • Able to work under minimum supervision
