    Mine Overseer (North West)

    Description

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To optimise the mining operation and to continuously improve current practices, methods, equipment and processes in order to exceed current production targets and reduce costs to the company and to ensure compliance of provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and its Regulations.

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:

    • Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
    • Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.

    PEOPLE:

    Manage the Section:

    • Ensure enabling climate/culture
    • Maintain labour stability
    • Manage performance against set targets and competencies
    • Prepare operational plans for the mine, and monitor costs and report progress
    • Ensure discipline is maintained
    • Lead the mine operations mining and engineering team and manage all mining personnel and resources
    • Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
    • Oversee the recruitment. Interviews and development of superintendents, supervisors, and operators, providing support and guidance to build an effective workforce
    • Contribute to business strategy to improve company’s competitiveness, profitability and growth.

    CUSTOMERS:

    • Maintain and improve relationships with all internal and external customers.

    BUSINESS PROCESSES:

    Mining Management:

    • Assist in the control, management and direction of the underground working of the mine

    Strategic Planning:

    • Assist with the compiling of the Mine Strategic Plan (1-5 years)
    • Accurately forecast & control mining & scheduling of mining and shutdown work according to the defined mining & engineering requirements.

    Tactical Planning:

    • Control the Tactical Plan (< 1 year).

    Maintenance Management:

    • Jointly define annual service level agreements with site maintenance personnel
    • Put systems and controls in place that will ensure that the site is maintained (e.g. Scrutinize and Control overtime abuse) at specified performance and within prescribed technical & legal requirements, that will permit a safe and environmentally acceptable operation, and to meet the required production-rated capacity at minimum life cycle costs.

    GROWTH

    • Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency (Mining) or Mine Manager’s Certificate
    • Degree or Diploma in Mining would be advantageous
    • At least 6 years’ experience, of which 2 years should be managerial experience
    • Minimum of 4 years holder of a Blasting Certificate
    • Minerals Act Regulation (2.14.1) appointment.

    Mine Manager Opencast (North West)

    Description

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To lead the Mining Team in the cost-effective optimisation and extraction of the ore body and to ensure compliance of provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and its Regulations.

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:

    • Manage SHEQ compliance within the Department through effective use of the Toolbox
    • Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

    PEOPLE:

    Manage the Department:

    • Ensure an enabling climate/culture
    • Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
    • Labour complement in line with budget 
    • Achieve BBBEE/HDSA/Female targets for the Section
    • Manage performance against set targets and competencies
    • Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented
    • Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
    • Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
    • Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels

    • Optimise Ore Body in compliance the Mine Planning and Exploitation Strategy. 

    Strategic Planning: 

    • Manage the Strategic Plan (2-5 years) 
    • Manage the Life of Mine Plan. 

    Tactical Planning: 

    • Manage the Tactical Plan (< 1 year). 

    GROWTH

    • Manage continuous improvement through Operational Excellence.

    • Compile and control the Mining budget

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Degree or Technikon Diploma
    • Mine Manager Certificate of competency (Metalliferous Mining)
    • Mine Health and Safety Act (3.1) appointment
    • 8 Years relevant experience, preferably 3 year’s managerial experience.

    Additional requirements:

    • 8 years relevant opencast experience, preferably 3 year’s managerial experience
    • Medical fitness as per organisational requirements.

    Maintenance Practitioner Systems (Steelpoort)

    Description

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    • To continuously monitor, improve and report adherence to maintenance processes in a safe manner and in accordance with the business blueprints.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY 

    • Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
    • Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

    CUSTOMERS

    • Proactively seek ways of improving equipment reliability, planned maintenance and physical maintenance in the plant

    BUSINESS PROCESSES

    Preventative maintenance system:

    • Ensure that the SAP PM master data, planning data and work management data meets Samancor Chrome standards at all times
    • Monitor and maintain strategy ratio between planned maintenance and breakdowns
    • Monitor maintenance efficiency using standard procedures
    • Investigate system problems, identify and recommend solutions
    • Conduct non-routine system analysis, evaluate and report thereon

    Reports:

    • Produce various routine and special reports as required
    • Assist in interpretation of these reports 
    • Report progress and suggest changes
    • Monitor work management discipline and asset performance figures and trends and highlight variances 

    Equipment availability and reliability:

    • Compile and update maintenance catalogues within laid down procedures
    • Monitor the extent of use of these catalogues
    • Monitor corrective maintenance workload VS available manpower
    • Report and suggest corrective action

    Training and Development:

    • Ensure that users do not have access to the SAP PM system unless properly trained
    • Coach and mentor maintenance team on the effective use of plant maintenance management system

    Cost Effectiveness:

    • Ensure the correct implementation of budgeting, rotables, and significant refurbishment processes on the site
    • Review monthly cost report and ensures implementation of corrective plans

    Quality:

    • Create quality awareness and quality service awareness
    • Monitor and report inconsistencies
    • Ensure system data integrity
