    Reach Truck Driver

    ROLE OVERVIEW:

    • To manage the movement of palletized fish efficiently and accurately within the cold store. This includes locating and assisting in scanning pallets for dispatch while also conducting inventory stock takes to ensure precise tracking of inventory levels. 

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Prepare orders for dispatch and inbound timeously and effectively.
    • Receive required order from supervisor timeously.
    • With reach truck, effectively locate required order in cold store.
    • Scan order out and feed order to Hyster driver efficiently.
    • For inbound orders, receive order from Hyster driver, scan, and accurately store away with reach truck.

    Cold Store Operations

    • Operate a reach truck to load, unload, transport, stack, and retrieve frozen products within designated cold store areas.
    • Move stock between production areas, blast freezers, holding freezers, and dispatch zones.
    • Maintain stock rotation in accordance with FIFO principles.

    Inventory Control

    • Assist with daily stock counts, cycle counts, and annual stock takes.
    • Verify product quantities, pallet labels, and storage locations.
    • Report stock discrepancies, damaged products, or incorrect stock allocations.
    • Ensure accurate completion of stock movement documentation.

    Equipment and Safety

    • Conduct pre-shift inspections of the reach truck and complete equipment checklists.
    • Report mechanical defects, damages, and safety hazards immediately.
    • Operate equipment in accordance with company safety standards and operating procedures.
    • Ensure safe stacking heights and pallet configurations.
    • Maintain housekeeping standards within work areas.

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Grade 12 (Matric).
    • Minimum 2 years' experience operating a reach truck in a cold storage, warehouse, or food manufacturing environment.
    • Valid Reach Truck Operator Licence/Certificate.
    • Forklift licence advantageous.

    KEY COMPETENCIES:

    • Reach truck operation and maneuvering
    • Safe loading, unloading, stacking, and retrieval of pallets
    • Warehouse and cold store operations knowledge
    • Inventory control and stock management
    • Equipment inspection and fault reporting
    • Understanding of FIFO stock rotation principles
    • Knowledge of food safety and cold chain requirements
    • Ability to accurately complete operational documentation

    Cook

    ROLE OVERVIEW:

    • The Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for the vessel’s crew while ensuring compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and health standards. The role involves maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised galley, managing food supplies and inventory, and ensuring adequate provisioning for each voyage to support the wellbeing and operational needs of the crew.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    Meal planning and preparation:

    • Preparing daily menus, accommodating dietary requirements and cooking meals as scheduled

    Galley hygiene and safety:

    • Complying with food safety and maritime regulations

    Stock control and ordering:

    • Monitoring stock levels, rotating provisions and placing orders as required

    Recordkeeping and reporting:

    • Completing meal logs, stock records and maintaining cleaning schedules

    Crew support and communication:

    • Communicating mealtimes and addressing requests or concerns

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Grade 10 or equivalent
    • SAMSA Certificate of Proficiency: Efficient Cook
    • Minimum 2 – 4 years’ experience preparing meals onboard on vessels
    • Knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards relevant to vessels
    • Knowledge and understanding of basic nutrition and portion control

    KEY COMPETENCIES:

    • Ability to plan and prepare varied meals for diverse crew
    • Ability to adapt and work under pressure
    • Budgeting and stock control skills
    • Good communication and teamwork
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Attention to detail and cleanliness
