• The Biostatistics Unit of the SAMRC is an active research entity that collaborates with health and medical researchers from the SAMRC, universities, other research institutions and international agencies. Statisticians in the Biostatistics Unit provide statistical support on design, analysis and reporting, to collaborative national and international projects in the SAMRC research portfolio. These range from surveys, epidemiological studies to randomized controlled trials. Statistical methodological development as well as the training and supervision of researchers and junior staff, is also done. The Biostatistics Unit offers a challenging biostatistics career in health and clinical research within a dynamic environment. The Unit has a number of methodological research programs such as longitudinal data analysis, and spatial data analysis. The successful candidate will have an individual research portfolio and contribute to these programs. The post holder must actively contribute to the SAMRC’s transformation agenda.

Core Requirements:

• Hold a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, or biometry; at least 5 years’ experience in clinical and health research environments.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to undertake and lead research projects in Biostatistical methodology and applied Biostatistical research project; or being a co-investigator or study statistician in Health-related project.
• Evidence of strong academic background and peer-reviewed ISI publication record in Biostatistics or book chapters, with at least 2 as first author in ISI journals
• Ability to interact with relevant stakeholders on statistical issues at the Health and Epidemiological project levels for research translation.
• At least a National recognition in the field of Biostatistics.
• Thorough knowledge of statistical methodology in Health and Expertise in a specialized field of Biostatistics.
• Ability to communicate statistical concepts and information to non-statisticians in Health and Clinical Sciences.
• Evidence of strong teamwork to successfully work in a project team.
• Evidence to mentor, motivate and teach statistical science and technical staff.
• Ability to generate funding from project managed from statistical perspective or as a health project statistician.
• Experience in mentoring and building capacity in the discipline; contributing to transformation initiatives.

Advantageous:

• At least 7 years’ experience in clinical and health research environments
• Evidence of managerial training and /or experience

The Facilities Management Division is seeking to appoint Facilities Cleaner in the Cape Town Offices.

Responsibilities:

Cleaning of offices/labs, common areas (ablution facilities and kitchen) and meeting rooms:

• Cleaning of office/labs, common areas and meeting room in the morning before staff enters their office space

Tea supplies, arrangements and cleaning material:

• Check stock of tea, coffee, sugar and milk in kitchens
• Refreshment arrangement during meetings
• Request replenishment of supplies

Up keep of cleaning equipment:

• Maintenance of cleaning equipment

Core Requirements:

• Grade 8 or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 to 2 years office cleaning experience
• Interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate (read and write)
• Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
