    Clinical Associate - Durban

    THINK is looking for a qualified Clinical Associate  to support the implementation of the VMMC Project. The Clinical Associate will be responsible to ensure professional, efficient and comprehensive medical service is provided to beneficiaries by themselves and the team in terms of MMC. 
    Areas Covered: eThekwini outer West: Nqetho, Ngcolosi, Hillcrest Kwanyuswa, Mkhambathini, Wybank, Botha’s Hill, Molweni, Waterfall and surrounding areas.

    Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Plan, coordinate and offer Medical Male circumcision.
    • Supervise all clinical and support staff members in delivery of safe and high-quality, high volume VMMC services.
    • Ensure rapid response and reporting of any client adverse events.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to team in terms of setting up goal/objectives that will influence VMMC key performance areas.
    • Assess and manage patients through all the VMMC package of services.
    • Perform medical male circumcision procedures on suitable clients, in accordance with accepted. protocol/models.
    • Document all procedures done and/
    • or clinical findings.
    • Follow up, monitor and manage patients post VMMC for AEs according to SA National Guidelines and Protocol.
    • Ensure infection control policies are adhered to.
    • Being part of a roving team that performs VMMC in other settings.

    Requirements:

    • Registered Clinical Associate (ClinA) trained in an accredited school / University (Clinical Associate. Degree / Bachelor Clinical Medical Practice BCMP).
    • Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Associate.
    • Certified VMMC Clinical training – Must have at least 2 years post qualification experience in VMMC.
    • Familiarity and experience with VMMC for HIV prevention required.
    • Experience with QA/quality improvement and supervision approaches preferred.
    • Experience in leading a clinical team.
    • Experience with clinical training preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Professional Nurse - Durban

    THINK is looking for a qualified Professional Nurse to support the implementation of the VMMC Project. The Professional Nurse will be responsible to ensure professional, efficient and comprehensive medical service is provided to beneficiaries by themselves and the team in terms of MMC. 

    Areas Covered: eThekwini outer West: Nqetho, Ngcolosi, Hillcrest Kwanyuswa, Mkhambathini, Wybank, Botha’s Hill, Molweni, Waterfall and surrounding areas. 

    Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Provides client education on VMMC and HIV.
    • Obtains beneficiaries medical history and conducts a physical examination.
    • Secures informed consent from beneficiaries or the parent/guardian prior to VMMC.
    • Prepares the client and minor surgical theater for VMMC.
    • Supervise Enrolled Nurses and Counsellors.
    • Restocks supplies, decontaminates instruments and equipment, autoclave.
    • Administers local anesthesia.
    • Prepares and dresses wounds.
    • Provides and reinforces postoperative messages.
    • Completes operation notes and other client record forms.
    • Conducts Day 2 and Day 7 client follow-up visits.

    Required Skills: 

    • Must be skilled in assessment, evaluation, nursing diagnosis, and treatment planning.
    • Must be able to provide VMMC preoperative, inter-operative and postoperative management.
    • Must have strong nursing and interpersonal skills, especially in working with diverse populations.
    • Must be able to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with a culturally diverse group of professional staff and volunteers.
    • Must be able to take initiative, work independently, and juggle multiple priorities without compromising high standards of performance and integrity.

    Requirements:

    • Nursing diploma and Registered with SANCA.
    • Completion of training and experience in a surgical and/or clinical setting.
    • Completion of training and experience as a Certified HIV Counselor preferred.
    • Experience in training clinical staff preferred.
    • Valid Drivers Licence.

    Enrolled Nurse - Durban

    THINK is looking for a qualified Enrolled Nurse to support the implementation of the VMMC Project. The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible to ensure professional, efficient and comprehensive medical service is provided to beneficiaries by themselves and the team in terms of MMC. 

    Areas Covered: eThekwini outer West: Nqetho, Ngcolosi, Hillcrest Kwanyuswa, Mkhambathini, Wybank, Botha’s Hill, Molweni, Waterfall and surrounding areas. 

    Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Assist Doctors, Clinical Associates, and Professional Nurses in the provision of VMMC services to clients.
    • Prepare theatres to ensure that they are always ready for operations.
    • Provide client education in VMMC and HIV and secure informed consent from clients or the parent/guardian prior to VMMC.
    • Obtain the beneficiaries medical history and conduct a physical examination.
    • Conduct reoperation screening of clients.
    • Prepare the client for VMMC procedure and administer local anesthesia.
    • Conduct post-operative reviews on beneficiaries.
    • Clean and apply dressings to patients after procedures and reinforce postoperative messages especially wound care.
    • Conduct Day 2 and Day 7 beneficiary follow-up visits.
    • Restocks supplies, decontaminates instruments and equipment, autoclave.
    • Ensure adherence to infection control protocols.
    • Participate in Quality Assurance activities and respond to queries.
    • Provide on-going supervision to MMC Enrolled Nursing Assistants.
    • Ensure that clients’ information is properly and accurately recorded and reported in all VMMC forms.
    • Report all AEs observed during review visits.
    • Report all abnormalities observed during pre-operation screening.

    Requirements:

    • Enrolled Nurse qualification.
    • Registration with SANC (South African Nursing Council) as an Enrolled Nurse.
    • Completed Matric.
    • Certified in VMMC qualification including VMMC OTH.
    • 2-3 years’ experience within a VMMC clinical environment.
    • Completion of training and experience as a Certified HIV Counsellor preferred.
    • Basic Life Support and Emergency Management training preferred.
    • Must be skilled in assessment, evaluation, a reporting in clinical abnormalities.
    • Computer proficiency (MS Office and Internet use) essential.
    • Must be able to provide VMMC preoperative, inter-operative and postoperative management.
    • Must have strong nursing and interpersonal skills, especially in working with diverse populations.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with a culturally diverse group of professional staff and volunteers.

    Mobiliser - Durban

    THINK is looking for a qualified Mobiliser to support the implementation of the VMMC Project. The Mobiliser  will be responsible to ensure professional, efficient and comprehensive medical service is provided to beneficiaries by themselves and the team in terms of MMC.

    Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Participation in staff meetings and appropriate training workshops.
    • Achieve monthly targets as per the workplan.
    • Complete all Lead Forms and Activity Sheets neatly, comprehensively and accurately, including the date of the lead; mobiliser code and site details.
    • Submit Lead Forms to THINK office at least 24 hours prior to the camp date.
    • Mobilize for MMC only from the age of 15 and above.
    • Mobilize for MMC into the scheduled camps.
    • Attend parents’ meetings and /or home visit to explain VMMC to parents and obtain consent.
    • Adhere to all demand creation standard operating procedures and company policies and procedures.

    Requirements:

    • Completed Matric. 
    • Certificate in HIV/AIDS counselling.
    • Outstanding communication skills.
    • Good and interpersonal skills.
    • Committed and motivated to preventing HIV, STI’s and TB.
    • Non-judgmental, trustworthy and empathetic personality.
    • Ability to work non-traditional hours which may include weekends from time to time.
    • Valid drivers’ licence and own transport will be an added advantage.

    Study Coordinator - Durban

    • THINK is looking for a qualified Study Coordinator to ensure that the studies allocated to the Site (Clinical Trial Unit) deliver to Organisational standards and Sponsor (Funder) expectations through providing leadership to the Site team. As Study Coordinator, to be responsible for operational aspects for the implementation of clinical trial activities ensuring Good Clinical Practices (GCP's) and relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are met.

    Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Ensure sufficient resources for the trial unit staff to conduct their duties and fulfil the obligations to funders.
    • Responsible for CTU compliance with clinical research and ethics regulatory practice.
    • Quality control management and periodic inspection of work carried out.
    • Designing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures for the trial.
    • Preparation of site and project before and after site activity takes place.
    • Collaborate with the Finance Officer allocated to the unit for accountability of all expenditure and best use of funders’ resources at site.
    • Daily operation of the unit including co-ordination of meetings, trainings and communication with funders.
    • Work together with the operations team to ensure facilities and equipment maintained.
    • Contribute towards the successful delivery of clinical trial and research projects that aim to enhance THINK’s vision and mandate.
    • Actively participate and contribute towards the successful completion of large-scale projects as part of the trial unit team.
    • Contribute towards the delivery of high-quality reports within agreed deadlines and timescales.
    • If the opportunity arises, to assist in the preparation of professional research proposals to secure research projects.
    • Prepare progress reports on the status of ongoing research studies and share timeously with relevant stakeholders, internally and externally.
    • Apply problem solving interventions where required to ensure that all projects remain on track to be completed timeously.
    • Proactively raise any threats to the successful completion of the projects within the unit and take corrective measures where necessary.
    • Contribute towards continuously ensuring that all research practices and processes are geared towards the cutting-edge delivery of research that contributes towards the public good.
    • Ensure proper alignment of all research studies with the objectives of the organisation.
    • Contribute towards the creation of a Research Centre of Excellence that provides cutting-edge research solutions.
    • Contribute towards the creation of research quality standards that align to the strategic objectives of the organisation.
    • Continuously strive to exceed all quality standards in all research studies undertaken.
    • Embark on continuous development initiatives aimed at automating research practices and employing cutting edge technologies.
    • Contribute to the betterment of THINK, e.g. grant writing, protocol development, contribute to publications/study reports.
    • Convene and attend meetings and present relevant information to stakeholders when required.
    • Ensure the provision of excellent customer service.
    • Resolve queries and problems within span of control and within agreed time frames.
    • Follow up on unresolved queries and complaints where required.
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding follow-up of information, as required.
    • Provide subject-matter advocacy and expertise to all relevant stakeholders.
    • Manage internal and external relationships to ensure that research best practices are implemented across the organisation.
    • Ensure strict adherence to all research requirements.
    • Maintain ethical and GCP principles throughout research conduct.
    • Assist in identifying and adhering to fraud controls, risk prevention principles, sound governance and compliance processes, and tools to identify and manage risks for the organisation.
    • Support and provide evidence to all internal and external audit and regulatory requirements where necessary.
    • Maintain quality risk management standards in line with regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain and enforce all related Service Level Agreements to minimise business risk and ensure business continuity.
    • Adhere to all relevant laws, policies and Standard Operating Procedures throughout the organisation.

    Requirements:

    • A completed Diploma or Degree in the filed of Health or Project Management.
    • Knowledge of active medical research with 3 years or more in project preparation.
    • Experienced in research mythology.  
    • Direct TB and HIV related research is advantageous.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 
    • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with teams and external partners. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Passion for social impact and commitment to the organisation's mission. 
    • Valid Drivers licence.
