    Environmental Officer (2000483357)

    Purpose of the Role

    • The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating processes and requirements related to the implementation of the Environmental Plan and the Integrated Environmental Management System.
    • This includes maintaining compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety System, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards, conducting training, audits, and inspections, and overseeing environmental risk management.

    Key Responsibilities

    Environmental Programme Planning & Scheduling:

    • Align environmental systems and controls with regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain integration with Health & Safety standards.
    • Identify environmental risks and update environmental plans accordingly.
    • Develop and communicate environmental training and inspection schedules.

    ISO 14001 Compliance Standards:

    • Analyze environmental impact and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
    • Track progress of corrective and preventive environmental measures.
    • Maintain environmental communication records and update documentation.
    • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures and emergency response plans.
    • Environmental Programme Implementation & Procedural Compliance:
    • Conduct environmental training for employees and management.
    • Verify compliance of environmental signage, licenses, and certifications.
    • Ensure contractor compliance with environmental regulations.
    • Perform mock trials to assess environmental incident preparedness.

    Site Inspections & Audits:

    • Conduct inspections to validate compliance with waste management and emissions standards.
    • Analyze technical studies and recommend corrective actions.
    • Perform internal audits and report findings for management approval.
    • Track and address environmental incident deviations.

    Incident Investigation & Management:

    • Manage response to environmental incidents and coordinate internal/external teams.
    • Monitor execution of corrective actions and report progress.
    • Engage with local authorities on regulatory inspections and compliance.

    Administration & Reporting:

    • Maintain environmental management records and documentation.
    • Prepare reports on environmental performance, audits, and compliance.
    • Manage documentation for meetings, training, and environmental interventions.
    • Maintain databases for inspection registers, permits, and certifications.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • A three-year tertiary qualification in Environmental Management (B.Sc, B.Tech, or N.Dip).
    • Certification in Environmental Incident Management or related courses.
    • 3–5 years of experience in environmental management within an industrial or manufacturing site.
    • Trained and experienced as an internal auditor on ISO 14001.
    • Valid Code B driving license.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

    Liquids Process Development Coordinator-Trainee (2000483356)

    Main purpose of job

    • Participates in continuous improvement projects or interventions relating to the process and plant operations.
    • Develop new technique for laboratory analysis
    • Work very closely with analytical manager to improve liquid’s lab analytical processes.
    • Liaising with MSD for new product development.
    • Follows the system to completion
    • Applies technical process knowledge for the purpose of optimizing various unit operations such as chromatography, evaporation, ion exchange and decolourization
    • Conducting root cause analysis on plant deviations
    • Work in conjunction with quality department to improve quality standards for liquids department.

    • Ad hoc activities for the department
    • Coverage as when needed by the department

    Qualifications, experience and personal qualities

    • Matric and completed degree or diploma in chemistry or chemical engineering.
    • Three-year experience of which some or most of that period has been exposed to development projects. Chemistry background. Interest in quality.
    • Flexible person willing to work longer hours when needed. Able to adapt to shift changes as required by task. Self-driven and can drive projects with less supervision. Be able to communicate clearly with operations team. Willing to be trained and trainable. Work with no silo mentality as some projects will be interdepartmental.
