    Lecturer - (2335)

    • The Department of Educational Studies seeks to appoint a suitable qualified full-time Lecturer to teach Educational Studies, Curriculum Studies and Practical Learning/Education Practice on the B Ed Foundation Phase Teaching Programme.
    • The successful incumbent will be expected to contribute top research and teaching in the B Ed Foundation Phase. They will also be expected to serve on Department and Faculty Committees and participate in the Department’s community engagement and international projects.

    The key performance areas include:

    • Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Educational Studies, Curriculum Studies and Practical Learning/Education Practice
    • Participate in scholarly research and publish in their area of specialisation
    • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision in the field of Educational Studies, linked to their area of specialisation
    • Provide administrative and academic support at departmental and faculty level, as required
    • Undertake curriculum development and assessment

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master's degree in Educational Studies or Curriculum Studies
    • Demonstrate experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate levels with respect to Foundation Phase teaching
    • Evidence of research publications
    • Evidence of working with university e-learning platforms using online and blended teaching approaches

    Recommendations/Added Advantage

    • A PhD in a relevant field or progress towards a relevant Doctoral qualification would be advantageous
    • Experience in postgraduate supervision
    • Experience in teaching in the Foundation Phase at school level
    • The integration of community engagement with learning, teaching and research

    Coordinator: Business Development - (2324)

    Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

    • This post will report to the Director Business Development  Office.
    • We seek a person who thrives in a highly pressurised and deadline-driven environment.

    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Provide support and input into processes dealing with UWC’s business development objectives.
    • Support in the implementation of the revenue activity policies and business processes.
    • Input into feasibility studies of potential new business opportunities.
    • Providing input to management for reporting to governance structures and management teams.
    • Providing input into communications on revenue activity matters to the campus community.
    • Provide input into complex, contentious, anomalous revenue matters and/or projects.

    Specific Responsibilities

    Finance related

    • Provide input and administrative support into revenue diversification workstreams.
    • Extract and supply data and information for management dashboard reporting.
    • Provide administrative support to the Business Development invoicing and debtors team.
    • Prepare and/or review monthly finance reconciliations for review by management.

    Property and tenant related

    • Oversee the administration of the lease register and repository and facilitate amendments to satisfy audit and governance processes.
    • Draft new lease contracts or lease updates for review by management.
    • Review finance information and Finance system for pending rental renewals and updates.
    • Extract and prepare property and tenant related information for management review.
    • Provide administrative support and record minutes when having engagements with retail and student accommodation projects.
    • Extract and prepare information for management's attendance at body corporate and related meetings and attend meetings with management as and when requested.
    • Facilitate the review and settlement of body corporate and/or company related expenses and recoveries.
    • Extract and prepare information for utility recoveries on infrastructure projects.
    • Attend to and facilitate resolution to tenant and related enquiries.
    • Provide support to management on completion of statutory requirements.

    New business opportunities/Entrepreneurship

    • Receive and facilitate communications with new business applications received by the Business Development office.
    • Provide administrative support to management in the evaluation of new business opportunity applications.

    CE courses

    • Provide input into the Continuing Education (CE) templates and budget calculations.
    • Manage the CE overhead collection process for management review.

    Special projects

    • Provide administrative support to management team in respect of special projects dealing with revenue generation and financial sustainability.

    Intellectual property and royalties

    • Oversee the administration of royalty agreements for the Business Development office and organize the extraction of data for royalty income calculations and collection.

    Minimum Requirements

    • BCom Degree NQF 7  (with accounting-related subjects).
    • 3-5 years’ experience in working in a revenue accounting and property lease/contracts administration position
    • Valid Driver's license (Code 8) – with at least 2 years of driving experience

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Demonstrable professional and effective work etiquette, communication and organisational skills.
    • Good computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio). Good handle of Excel specifically for budget and financial modelling purposes.
    • Experience working at an academic institution and specifically working with leases, legal documentation, tenants, property administration and finance, debtors, customer relations, budgets, business development, and special projects would be advantageous.

    Manager : Innovation Hub - (2331)

    • This role will lead, manage, and coordinate the strategic development and operational delivery of the University of the Western Cape’s (UWC) Innovation Hub Precinct, located at 405 Voortrekker Road, Parow, including managing associated innovation-driven projects, stakeholder engagement, infrastructure planning, and economic development initiatives.

    Reporting to the Director Business Development, the responsibilities include:

    Leadership & Planning

    • Develop and implement plans for the Innovation Hub Precinct.
    • Align precinct projects with broader economic development and innovation strategies.

    Project Management

    • Oversee the delivery of multiple innovation-focused projects.
    • Ensure timely execution, budget control, and quality outcomes.
    • Apply best practices in agile, design thinking, or other innovation methodologies.

    Precinct Management

    • Coordinate facilities use and ensure optimal use of building facilities including the studios and showrooms.
    • Coordinate infrastructure and equipment maintenance management with various departments to ensure the smooth operation of academic activities that are directly relevant to the Hub's infrastructure and technological resources.
    • Manage events such as tours and all comprehensive administrative functions related thereto with capacity to organize and oversee events.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and manage partnerships with universities, startups, investors, industry, and government.
    • Facilitate collaboration of stakeholder engagements on various platforms.
    • Customer Relationship Management and communication with a broad range of stakeholders within both the university and external market that are important for the Hub's diverse partnerships and collaborations.

    Governance & Reporting

    • Ensure compliance with governance, regulatory, and funding requirements.
    • Report on project milestones, KPIs, and precinct performance.
    • Compile annual operational budget.

    Operational Oversight & People Management

    • Oversee precinct operations, facilities, tenant management, and day-to-day activities.
    • Manage procurement, service contracts, and space utilization.
    • Perform supervisory roles to the Interns and other student assistant recruitment and assist with the recruitment process and aligning the role's on implementing and improving the ARVR Development Programmes.

    Business Development & Innovation Ecosystem Growth

    • Promote the precinct as a hub for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
    • Attract new tenants, partners, and investment opportunities.
    • Promote the immersive technologies and other facilities for future business.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A postgraduate qualification in Management, Business Administration, or a related field at NQF Level 8.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in the higher education sector, including:
    • A minimum of 2 years' experience supervising and leading staff; and
    • Experience in managing a precinct or similar operational environment.
    • A valid driver's license with a minimum of 2 years' driving experience.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Demonstrated experience in managing and coordinating multiple innovation-focused projects.
    • Proven ability to coordinate and oversee complex, high-level administrative functions, including finance management, human resources and procurement.
    • Sound knowledge of precinct management, including the coordination of infrastructure maintenance and equipment upkeep.

    Associate Lecturer in Tourism - (2327)

    • A successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to research, teaching, supervision and overall student development. They will exhibit a sense of collegiality and an ability to work as a member of a team. 
    • The ideal candidate should have an interest, as well as, a demonstrated background in Tourism and Geography, such as to enable the strengthening of this focus area in the Department. We are especially interested in applicants with theoretical interests and empirical research agendas for Tourism. In their covering letter, candidates will be expected to identify their own teaching and research interests that speak to the current profile and future development of the Department.

    • Demonstrated ability to teach Tourism from a geographical perspective, in line with the Department profile and co-requisite modules.
    • The ability to supervise Honours students. 
    • Demonstrated engagement with Tourism curriculum -related tasks, such as Tourism lesson planning or assist with Tourism course materials.
    • Demonstrated early-stage involvement in the wider academic or professional community through research and/or collaborative or scholarly projects.

    Added advantage would be:

    • A Master’s degree and enrolment for a PhD in Geography with a Tourism focus.
    • Expertise in geography broadly defined; tourism geographies, urban and rural tourism, sustainable tourism development and/or intersections with environmental studies and/or GIS would be a strong recommendation.
    • Demonstrated engagement with Tourism curriculum-related tasks, such as Tourism lesson planning or assisting with Tourism course materials.

    Added advantage would be:

    • A MA degree in Geography, with active enrollment in a PhD with a critical Human Geography focus

    Dental Specialist: Maxillo-Facial & Oral Surgery (Senior Lecturer) - (2262)

    • Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced professionals with strong academic and clinical track records for a position on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness (WCDHW). The appointment will be made in accordance with the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Rendering a maxillofacial and oral surgery service on the combined platform i.e. Tygerberg and Mitchells Plain Oral Health Centres, Groote Schuur-,  Tygerberg- and Red Cross Academic Hospitals  and secondary hospitals where indicated. (normal working hours and overtime duties as per departmental roster),
    • Teaching and training on the combined platform, i.e. appropriate training, supervision and general teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students,
    • Conduct, assist and stimulate research, 
    • Control and management of clinical services as delegated by the Head of Department,
    • Maintain satisfactory clinical, professional and ethical standards related to these services, 
    • Maintain necessary discipline over staff under his/her control, 
    • Attend to administrative matters as pertains to hospital administration and academics, 
    • Promote community-orientated services. 

    The following would enhance an application:

    • A PhD, or registered toward a PhD in a relevant field would be preferred in respect of the Academic ranking of this post, but is not prerequisite,
    • Must be / have been affiliated to an academic dental institution,

    Appointment to this position requires the following criteria:

    • A MChD (MFOS) or FCMFOS-SA or equivalent qualification, 
    • Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a ‘Specialist Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon’ on the date of appointment is a prerequisite,
    • Demonstrated experience and academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, supervision, and administration, in order to contribute to the Faculty’s academic objectives,
    • Research and publications record.
