    Associate Lecturer in Tourism - (2327)

    • A successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to research, teaching, supervision and overall student development. They will exhibit a sense of collegiality and an ability to work as a member of a team. 
    • The ideal candidate should have an interest, as well as, a demonstrated background in Tourism and Geography, such as to enable the strengthening of this focus area in the Department. We are especially interested in applicants with theoretical interests and empirical research agendas for Tourism. In their covering letter, candidates will be expected to identify their own teaching and research interests that speak to the current profile and future development of the Department. 

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Contributing to the learning and teaching programme at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 
    • Supervising Honours research projects.
    • Developing a research and publications profile.
    • Integrating the effective use of existing and new technologies to enhance teaching and learning
    • Contributing to departmental academic administration.
    • Contributing to departmental and institutional community engagement efforts.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • A completed four-year professional Honours Degree in Geography with a focus on Tourism.
    • An active enrolment in a Master’s degree in Geography with a focus on Tourism.
    • At least one (1) year of experience in tutoring, graduating lecturing, education or other structured teaching support roles.
    • Demonstrated ability to teach Tourism from a geographical perspective, in line with the Department profile and co-requisite modules.
    • The ability to supervise Honours students. 
    • Demonstrated engagement with Tourism curriculum -related tasks, such as Tourism lesson planning or assist with Tourism course materials.
    • Demonstrated early-stage involvement in the wider academic or professional community through research and/or collaborative or scholarly projects.
    • Participation in at least one (1) research activity, such as data collection, data analysis, literature review, or co-authorship on a publication or report.

    Added advantage would be:

    • A Master’s degree and enrolment for a PhD in Geography with a Tourism focus.
    • Expertise in geography broadly defined; tourism geographies, urban and rural tourism, sustainable tourism development and/or intersections with environmental studies and/or GIS would be a strong recommendation.
    • Demonstrated engagement with Tourism curriculum-related tasks, such as Tourism lesson planning or assisting with Tourism course materials.
    • Evidence of interaction with student feedback processes or reflective learning practices. 
    • Demonstrated early-stage involvement in the wider academic or professional community, through research and/or collaborative scholarly projects.
    • Experience working with (or within) any tourism governmental body or organisation to provide a "real-world" context to students.
