    Electrical Engineer / Technologist - Data Centres

    Job Description

    • Providing a consulting engineering service and the design of MV & LV, power and lighting, single line diagrams, reticulation, generators, UPS, fire detection and evacuation as well as Data, CCTV, access control, intruder and building management.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Preparing accurate and concise designs, design calculations, budgets, tender specification creation, performing project financial control and diligent construction monitoring and project management (electrical) throughout all stages of a project life cycle.
    • Collaborating and working with multi-disciplinary team of engineers on a project while taking an active part in the design process and co-ordination.
    • Completing all types of projects from inception to close out with limited input from management and/or other senior engineers.
    • Being able to focus on client care and professional team management including on-time delivery.
    • Marketing, including attendance at business related networking and client functions. Ensuring repeat work from clients and developing a client base.
    • Setting up client/consultant fee/contract agreements, calculating professional fees and the effective management of professional fees on all projects.
    • Managing internal office project finances regarding hourly forecasting, WIP and invoicing.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum BEng / BSc / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering
    • Must be a Candidate engineer with ECSA. Pr Eng/Tech registration highly advantageous
    • At least 3 years consulting engineering experience within the Building Services Environment
    • SAQCC Registered for Design will be advantageous.
    • Revit Modelling Experience will be advantageous.
    • Data Centre experience will be highly advantageous.

    Key Competencies and Generic Skills:

    • Good to excellent communication skills (English) and including report writing abilities. Ability to have clear and accurate communication skills with internal and external professional teams and including clients via email, telecommunication, and face-to-face meetings.
    • Good knowledge of SANS10142-1&2, SANS10139 and SANS10114 among others.
    • Good knowledge of various building contracts applicable to the building services industry (i.e., JBCC, Fidic, NEC, Procsa, etc.).
    • Good knowledge of MV and LV reticulation designs.
    • Good knowledge of standby power systems including changeovers, synchronising, and calculating ratings thereof.
    • Good knowledge of Renewable energy installations.
    • Knowledge and experience with Autodesk BIM (Revit, Navisworks, Glue, Field, etc.) and CAD software.
    • Knowledge and experience with electrical software packages such as Relux and/ or Dialux, CBi and/ or Ecodial and/or Amtech.

    Electrical BIM Modeler

    Job Description

    • We are actively seeking an individual who can join the Electrical Team and be responsible for preparing technical drawings of MV & LV, power and lighting, single line diagrams, reticulation, generators, UPS, fire detection and evacuation as well as Data, CCTV, access control, intruder and building management. (Experience in other services such as Mechanical, Wet Services, Fire Services and Medical Gas Services will be advantageous).
    • Undertake detailed coordination of MEPF services.
    • Understanding the codes and standards (e.g. SANS 10142, 10114, 10139, etc.) and transferring this into a design and a drawing, as well as the ability to learn new codes is critical.
    • During the drawing process, they will analyse information (such as measurements and sketches) provided by engineers, architects and other members of a project’s professional team. The BIM Modeller needs to apply their knowledge of design and engineering to illustrate visual instructions that relate technical specifications, including dimensions, arrangements and installation procedures. These drawings will then be used for tendering and construction purposes.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to perform and understand multi service co-ordination is critical.
    • Electrical design and site monitoring experience will be advantageous.
    • Data Centre Experience will be advantageous.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for design and modelling of Electrical systems (Electronic systems will be advantageous).
    • Create and/or modify existing engineering designs and models.
    • Coordinate and communicate with building owners, clients, consultants, contractors, and project team members (internally and externally).
    • Ensure designs and drawings adhere to deadlines. Willingness to work extra hours above normal hours to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Site meetings during construction with engineers and contractors for the updating of designs and models.
    • Exposure to various industry CAD/ Building Information Modelling (BIM) practice (Revit is essential) and work cultures (optional).
    • Co-ordination of various services (HVAC, Fire, Civil, Wet Services, Structural elements, etc.).
    • Responsible and taking ownership of designs and deliverables of tender information.
    • Be responsible to managing BIM models and coordinating multidisciplinary services and meetings for clash free models.
    • Innovation for BIM purposes and internal operational developments (indication of innovative ideas that is submitted with CV would be advantageous). 
    • Development of BIM families.

    Fire Engineer

    Job Description

    • The Fire Engineer will be part of the Fire Engineering Team to serve as an expert technical consultant on fire safety, fire prevention, fire protection and life safety engineering issues for internal and external clients.
    • The Fire Engineer will be responsible for the project management for all fire safety and fire system design aspects of all assigned projects. They will also form a critical part of the fire team as a whole and work together with the other fire engineers, technicians, BIM Modeler, etc.
    • Liaising with the Authority Having Jurisdiction on plan approval and signing off buildings that comply with the building regulations and fire designs, and to obtain an occupancy certificate. (Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech. Eng. Will be highly advantageous)
    • Knowledge and experience in all local fire safety codes is key to carry out code compliant fire safety designs. E.g. NBR, SANS 10400, ASIB, etc.
    • Knowledge and experience in other international codes and standards to carry out rational fire designs is also required. E.g. BS 9999, NFPA 101, BS 7974, IFEG, etc.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Consulting engineering and project management for all fire safety and fire system design aspects of all assigned projects.
    • Develop fire safety plans for evacuation, way finding, firefighting equipment, fire rated construction, escape widths, etc. including the use of value-added methods such as computer-aided hydraulic design, CFD analysis, evacuation modelling etc. Our BIM team will do the actual drawing work.
    • Write reports detailing rational designs that deviate from the DTS solutions.
    • Assist senior engineers on projects.
    • Meetings with clients, architects and other professional team members.
    • Accompany Senior Engineers while they consult with authorities to discuss safety regulations and to recommend deviations as necessary for projects.
    • Assist Senior Engineers on the design of fire detection, sprinkler systems, gas suppression, smoke control systems, etc. including the use of value-added methods such as computer-aided hydraulic design, CFD analysis, etc.  Our BIM team will do the actual drawing work.
    • Review drawings by our BIM team in 2D and 3D platforms.
    • Prepare tender documents and specifications for various fire protection systems and adjudication reports etc.
    • Site inspections and construction monitoring.
    • Financial management of contracts, fee proposals, invoicing, etc.
    • Fee proposals, time management, resource management, etc. of projects.
    • Involvement in management responsibilities, such as revenue forecasts, resource management, bidding on and winning new projects, client liaison, etc.
    • Attendance of site meetings and carrying out site inspections
