    Learner Radiation Protection Officer (Radiation Protection Monitor) Internship

    Key Performance Areas  

    Strategic Alignment

    •  Assist RPOs in providing radiological protection, health, safety and environmental advice to NFMs and their personnel.
    • Collating RP surveillance results and conventional safety matters to the RPOs. Process Management - Ensure and manage safe nuclear and radiological operations
    • Perform, under the supervision of an RPO, on-the-job safety evaluation of projects, processes and procedures in order to identify, control and protect against hazards.
    • Perform, under the supervision of an RPO, radiological monitoring of the workplace and the workforce in the facility.
    • Provide, under the supervision of an RPO, RP and SHE advice to Facility Managers and operational employees.
    • Invigilate, under the supervision of an RPO, activities in the facilities to ensure safe operation.
    • Prescribe, under the supervision of an RPO, control and protective measures required on work permits and in work instructions (Written Safe Work Procedures).
    • Prescribe, under the supervision of an RPO, appropriate personal protective equipment, and ensure it is correctly used.
    • Keep, under the supervision of an RPO, a complete and accurate record of monitoring data (RP surveillance results) collected and report timeously to the RPOs.
    • Provide RP support during emergency exercises and emergencies.
    • Assist and take initiative to promote safety culture in the facility.
    • Monitor and evaluate, under the supervision of an RPO, the effectiveness of a facility radiation protection programme and provide feedback to the RPO.

    Communication

    •  Assist the RPOs in providing radiological protection, health, safety and environmental advice to NFMs and their personnel.
    • Report on radiological and conventional safety matters to the RPOs, and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Keep, under the supervision of an RPO, a complete and accurate record of radiological and conventional safety aspects in the facilities.
    • Process, implement and file, under the supervision of an RPO, all documents such as procedures, guidelines, and results related to radiation protection.
    • Ensure, under the supervision of an RPO, that personnel records, especially regarding access to nuclear facilities, exposure records and occupational medical status are up to date.
    • Compile, under the supervision of an RPO, RP surveillance reports, guidelines and plant specific procedures and control programmes.

    Documentation and record keeping

    • Keep, under the supervision of RPO, a complete and accurate record of radiological and conventional safety aspects in the facilities. 

    Staff development 

    • Performs, under the supervision of an RPO, training of new RP personnel in all the relevant aspects of the work environment.
    • Ensures, under the supervision of an RPO, that personnel are trained in the correct use of safety equipment, emergency procedures, personal monitoring aspects and incident reporting.
    • Ensure, under the supervision of an RPO, that continuous and effective on-the-job training are provided for personnel.
    • Take initiative to promote safety culture in the facility/ies
    • Keep up to date with the field of expertise through self-study, attendance of colloquia, courses and training sessions.

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent with physical science & mathematics as major subjects.

     Experience: 

    • 6 months relevant generic experience in radiological and conventional safety, preferably in a radiological environment.
    • Practical experience (on the job training) in RP and conventional safety aspects.

    Senior Operator Internal and External Advert Hay Level 11

    OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct routine inspections of HSR systems and related plant equipment.
    • Monitor and record pipe pressure readings using gauges, report deviations.
    • Complete and maintain all required inspection checklists and logs accurately.
    • Execute tasks in line with approved work procedures and safety standards.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including spill prevention measures.
    • Operate and ensure proper care of PDO assets (e.g., forklifts, vehicles, equipment).
    • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily operator activities effectively.
    • Lead and participate in small in-plant projects.
    • Evaluate and improve operational procedures; contribute to development of work instructions.
    • Take independent operational decisions within scope of authority.
    • Adjust processes to address operational deviations and ensure continuity of work.
    • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior operators.
    • Participate in skills development programmes aligned with career growth.
    • Lead emergency response activities and respond to after-hours incidents.

    • Comply with all NECSA safety, security, and quality procedures.
    • Maintain accurate SEA records and operational documentation.
    • Verify and correct waste management and QA records.
    • Prepare and verify data packs for waste drums destined for disposal.
    • Ensure traceability of waste drums using barcode systems.
    • Capture and download operational data into relevant systems.
    • Safeguard facility assets and ensure controlled access to operational areas.

    SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL

    • Learn, allocate, and supervise daily work activities.
    • Ensure team compliance with operational and safety procedures.
    • Monitor performance and provide guidance and support.
    • Identify and address potential operational risks or inefficiencies.
    • Ensure effective team coordination and communication.

    Senior Artisan Mechanical – Chiller Specialist Internal and External Advert Hay Level 13

    Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

    INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE

    • Supports the Mechanical Supervisor in daily operations.
    • Maintains efficient mechanical systems across all facilities
    • Perform mechanical installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment.
    • Conduct inspections and tests of mechanical systems to ensure functionality and safety.
    • Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults and issues in a timely manner.
    • Assist in planning and executing mechanical projects, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
    • Timeous return of completed Job Cards to Planning Office for capturing and recoveries.

    SHEQ & REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

    • Adhere to local, national, and international mechanical codes and safety regulations.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Qualified Mechanical (Fitter & Tuner) Artisan and Trade Tested with Red Seal
    • Additional refrigeration certifications/experience
    • Minimum 5years’ experience in mechanical maintenance operations as an artisan
    • Good knowledge of Necsa site facilities, mechanical system and safety equipment(advantageous)

    Job Requirements

    OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Grade 12
    • Qualified Artisan (Fitter & Turner)/ Welder
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the mechanical maintenance field and nuclear waste facilities.
    • Experience in handling of DSRS.
