    Production Supervisor

    Role Context

    • Conduct safe declarations before the start of shift.
    • Facilitate the daily Safety meeting before proceeding to your work area.
    • Ensure that a pre-start checklist (both the bakkie being used and all equipment responsible for in the pit) is done every day before your shift starts; this is done by completing a pre-start checklist. This checklist must be signed by you and counter signed by the Engineering department delegate.
    • Your Pit Superintendent will give you instructions regarding area of responsibility for each shift.
    • It is your responsibility to ensure that you wear the required PPE as indicated to you during site Induction.
    • It is also your responsibility to report any deviations that may occur during your shift regarding safety.
    • You must also ensure that your area of responsibility is healthy and safe and all requirements as per mine procedure are in place. 
    • During maintenance and cleaning operations, you must ensure that the lockout procedure is enforced and adhered to.
    • It is your responsibility to ensure that there is adequate illumination for the night shifts.
    • Always adhere to the requirements of the applicable safe operating procedures for your task/job description or any safe work instruction given to you by your Production Manager.
    • You will be required to work shifts and overtime at short notice when required. It may be required that you work on off weekends and public holidays when requested by the Production Manager. 
    • You are required to adhere to all Environmental Policies and Procedures.
    • Create and maintain a safe working area for the machines and employees in your area of responsibilities.
    • Control pit floor condition, load & haul, haul road construction and maintenance, stockpiles and dump sites on a daily basis.
    • Manage Production –teams (All Operators, etc.)
    • Comply with all legal and charter requirements for you Production team including the condition of service cards and the pre-shift checks of the designated plant.
    • Report immediately any abuse of machine or damage and poor pit, haul road and dumpsite conditions.
    • Coordinate the use of pre shift checklists for L.D.V. or plant and their use on a daily basis.
    • Control access in and out of work area.
    • Control and monitor the quality of jobs done to prevent rework, injury, accidents or damage.
    • Removal of sharp rocks from pit floor or dump site to always prevent tyre cuts
    • Conduct a safe declaration and risk assessment before any work comment (on the main loading areas and haul roads)
    • Control the spot times, from the moment that the horn of the loading tool sounds, until the first load starts falling into the bin of the next truck, to 40 seconds.
    • Maintain proper bench heights
    • Achieve hourly production rates
    • Construct proper access to loading area

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12;
    • Valid Pit License 
    • Competent “A” certificate
    • Blasting certificate will be (advantageous)
    • Mining engineering degree/diploma or surface mining will be (advantageous)

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum of 4 years mining experience in an open pit mining environment. 
    • Must be able to adapt and work effectively in a multi-disciple environment.

    Drill Rig Operator

    Role Context

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Attend daily safety meetings with the drilling team to discuss safe declarations and line up prior to any drilling work being conducted, to identify and report any substandard conditions.
    • Participate in all safety initiatives and attend safety meetings to support identification and reporting of any safety hazards and unsafe work practices.
    • Participate in risk assessments, including checking safe usage of drilling equipment and proper usage of PPE, to support the maintenance of a safe working environment.
    • Support a safe work environment, by checking the Drill Rig prior to starting operations, marking items according to the pre-checklist to ensure all safety measures are met.
    • Conduct risk assessment together with the Supervisor and other drilling team members, prior to starting drilling operations, to indicate the block to be drilled has passed the safety inspection.
    • Check the block to be drilled is barricaded off prior to drilling to prevent injuries or accidents.
    • Conduct continuous risk assessments throughout the day by proactively identifying and reporting identified risks within the areas of operation and collaborating with the various departments to support and maintain a safe working environment.
    • Maintain and manage one’s own health and safety across the area of operations by adhering to all health and safety protocols and procedures to minimise any incidents within the working environment.

    Drill Rig Operations

    • Conduct drilling operations, in accordance with established procedures and safety protocols, and maintain high levels of productivity by efficiently completing drilling tasks within specified timeframes and achieving set targets.
    • Optimise drilling techniques to maximise drilling rates while maintaining accuracy and precision.
    • Ensure that the drill rig assistant measure each drilled hole using relevant tools, to ensure that holes are drilled to the correct depth as per the drilling plan.
    • Strictly adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including the drill plan, during drilling operations to minimise accidents, injuries and equipment damage.
    • Employ proper drilling techniques throughout the process to ensure that drilling blocks are properly squared up for charging activity to commence.
    • Conduct regular quality control checks on drilling parameters and equipment performance to ensure accuracy and consistency.
    • Continuously observe and maintain the drilling cadence of the machine monitoring for dust and inefficiency.
    • Ensure that the allocated drill rig assistant clean and plug holes to protect the integrity of the drilled holes, and ensure safety to the people who will be walking in and out of the drilling block. 
    • Remove rods upon drilling completion, ensuring there is no contamination on other holes or damages to the GET.  

    Resource Management

    • Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
    • Request required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs.
    • Use assets and resources optimally within own area of responsibility.
    • Inspect equipment, reporting on those reaching the end of their lifespan to management, to ensure proper functioning. 

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the Manager.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Communicate with the Supervisor to organize drill plans showing all holes staked on the ground.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Matric Grade 12 (NQF4).

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years' drilling experience in a mining environment.

    Drilling Foreman

    Role Context

    Drilling Management

    • Supervise the operational drilling across TM by implementing and driving adherence to the daily plan and established targets as well as monitoring the use, management, and maintenance of all drilling equipment.
    • Implement the drilling procedure at TM by ensuring blocks are first appropriately cleaned, holes are drilled to the predetermined depth and width and are appropriately charged for blasting.
    • Minimise the operational cost per shift by ensuring all resources used in the drilling function are used as efficiently as possible by limiting errors and planning the implementation of the daily plan optimally.
    • Supervise the drilling shift by providing guidance and enforcing adherence to drilling and operational targets as well as to ensure that safety meeting, safe declarations and risk assessments are done before drilling commences.
    • Implement continuous improvement initiatives within the Drill function by identifying new ways of working that reduce costs and optimise resource yield without compromising the safety of the personal on the mine and the operations in and of itself.
    • Drive sustainable drilling practices across the Drilling function by optimising the use of materials and implementing the most effective D&B designs to produce a maximum yield of reef and ore.
    • Enforce comprehensive safety management protocols, in relation to the drilling functions operating requirements of the equipment, by upskilling the team members and ensuring total compliance to policies to reduce risk and minimise injuries or death on duty and driving the longevity of the drilling equipment.
    • Drive and enforce compliance around all drilling practices within Tharisa Minerals.
    • Compile shift specific data by analysing shift performance against their established kpi’s and monitoring their achievement of their kpi’s and raising any potential concerns with the Pit Superintendent to ensure operations are optimised.
    • Conduct an initial inspection of the drilling site, identifying any blast misfires and cracks and provide shift specific reports on daily operating effectiveness and tracking towards the daily plan ensuring targets are met.
    • Implement all relevant standard operating procedures required throughout the course of the shift’s operation ensuring the team operates as safely as possible whilst also ensuring the maintenance of equipment, driving the optimal functioning of the drilling operations.

    Financial Management

    • Follow budgeting guidelines and bring about the necessary changes to curb costs to achieve annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring planned spend and budget for the drilling function is not exceeded. 

    Health and Safety

    • Enforce regulatory frameworks and company COP guidelines in relation to Health and Safety by continuously updating all relevant policies and procedures as required and ensuring that they are appropriately communicated with the staff.
    • Regularly engage with staff by running regular meetings ensuring all SHEQ policies and procedures are understood and adhered to.
    • Monitor and enforce compliance with relevant industry regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards related to drilling and blasting operations.
    • Conform to the Mine Health and Safety Act guidelines in terms of safety by continuously updating drilling procedures ensuring that they are understood and implemented by all drilling staff.
    • Facilitate the daily Safety meeting before proceeding to the worksite ensuring all staff in the function are aware of the Health and Safety requirements of the mine and the specific worksite to minimise any unnecessary risk.
    • Monitor the use of the personal protection equipment (PPE) by the drilling function at TM, reporting any additional PPE requirements to ensure the safety of the team and compliance to operating procedures.
    • Conduct inspections of the drilling sites, clearing any non-compliant materials and equipment driving safety and ensuring all operations are conducted optimally.
    • Conduct site risk assessments to determine the safety and level of risk for operations and implement steps to reduce the risks to the operation.

    People Management

    • Create and maintain a conducive work environment by appropriately applying Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure optimum performance is realised for the benefit of the Department and, by extension, the organisation.

    Resource Management

    • Manage the procurement and maintenance of drilling equipment, explosives, and related tools by collaborating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment required for drilling and blasting activities at the most cost-effective rates.

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure information, advice or opinions on relevant matters is made available and/or communicated with all relevant stakeholders, to manage expectations and timelines.
    • Utilise opportunities presented to enhance the relationship between management, unions, and employees, and implement processes to maximise a collaborative working relationship.

    Qualifications

    • Matric Certificate /Grade 12 (NQF4).
    • Blasting Certificate / Rock breaking equivalent MQA qualifications in Surface Mining
    • Competent “A” certificate
    • Valid First Aid certificate
    • Fire Fighting certificate
    • Production Foreman certificate/proof

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years mining experience in open cast mining of which 2 years should be as a production supervisor.
    • Experience/Exposure on MS Dynamics F&O, Reporting tools : MS Power BI

    Diesel Bowser Operator

    Role Context

    Health and Safety

    • Conduct risk and safety inspections, identifying and reporting any risks within the allocated area of operations and completing the requisite checklist recording the associated risks.
    • Conduct a prestart safety checklist by inspecting the Diesel Bowser, identifying any risks and concerns, and escalating them to the control room and Foreman ensuring all safety requirements are met before the Diesel Bowser Operator is put into operation for the day.
    • Conduct continuous risk assessments throughout the day by proactively identifying and reporting identified risks within the areas of operation and collaborating with the various departments to support and maintain a safe working environment.
    • Maintain and manage one’s own health and safety across the area of operations by adhering to all health and safety protocols and procedures to minimise any incidents within the working environment.

    Equipment Operations

    • Conduct a prestart safety checklist by inspecting the Diesel Bowser, identifying any risks and concerns, and escalating them to the control room and Foreman ensuring all safety requirements are met before the Diesel Bowser Operator is put into operation for the day.
    • Conduct routine inspections and ensure preventative maintenance is performed on the Diesel Bowser as and when is required.
    • Collaborate with the various supervisors, foreman and other departments to ensure that all equipment operators provide sufficient lead time for refuelling, minimising downtime across TM operations.
    • Manage the refuelling of the diesel bowser by actively monitoring the fuel level within the bowser and recording the utilisation of diesel across the operations as it relates to the refuelling by the diesel bowser.
    • Conduct daily housekeeping across the Diesel Bowser that this role has worked with by cleaning the cabin, conducting an end of shift inspection on the Diesel Bowser, and ensuring any required maintenance or cleaning is scheduled accordingly to keep the Operator in peak operational condition.
    • Manage the operation of the Diesel Bowser Operator by monitoring and controlling the area of operation in and around the operator ensuring a safe working environment is maintained, reporting any deviations from TM’s health and safety standards.
    • Complete all movement logs for the Diesel Bowser by recording all movements and loads managed throughout the respective shift to ensure accurate records are kept of all movements.

    Daily Planning

    • Work according to the daily and weekly plan by engaging with the supervisor to understand the intended targets and notifying them of any potential delays (due to breakdowns or any other causes) to enable continuous monitoring of target achievements.

    Qualifications:

    • Matric Grade 12 (NQF4)
    • Code 10 Drivers Licence
    • Relevant license of operation for the Diesel Bowser Operator
    • Any other relevant certifications 

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum of 0-1 year of experience having worked in a similar type of role, in the mining or heavy industry environment, using the same or similar type of equipment.
