    Medical Registrar: Family Medicine

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner, HPCSA registration as an independent Medical Practitioner. Proof of current HPCSA registration.

    Duties :

    • The incumbent will rotate at accredited relevant related training sites to gain practical exposure and work experience in the practice of Family Medicine over 4 years.
    • The rotations will be in line with departmental curriculum of the University of Pretoria.
    • The successful candidate will be expected to participate in site-specific work-related activities which include conducting overtime.
    • The candidate will also be expected to all activities of Family Medicine which relate to teaching, academics and research.
    • The University of Pretoria will facilitate the completion of the MMed in Family Medicine.

    Medical Registrar: Accident and Emergency

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner, HPCSA registration as an independent medical practitioner.
    • Proof of current HPCSA registration and any three of the following short courses: BLS, ACLS, PALS, ITLS, ATLS and/or APLS.
    • Emergency Medicine primaries, Dip PEC (SA), EMPRET ECG Course, Basic Ultrasound Course or 6 months under an Emergency Medicine Specialist would be an added advantage.

    Duties :

    • The incumbent will rotate at accredited training sites to gain practical exposure and work experience in the practice of Accident and Emergency over 4 years.
    • Rotations will be 6 months at a registered site supervised by the Emergency Medical Specialist.
    • The successful candidate will be expected to participate in site-specific work-related activities which include conducting overtime.
    • The candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching, academic and research activities of the department.
    • The University of Pretoria will facilitate the completion of the MMed in Accident and Emergency.

    Registrar [Medical]

    Requirements :

    • To qualify for the position, candidates must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa [HPCSA] as an independent medical practitioner and have successfully completed the FC Orth (SA) Primary exam.
    • A minimum of 12 months of post- community service experience in Orthopaedics is required, with experience at a tertiary level being highly desirable.
    • Participation in Orthopaedic research and/or the completion of courses in basic Orthopaedic principles and research methodology are considered added advantage.
    • Candidates should posses strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to continuing professional development and education.
    • Basic proficiency in clinical and surgical Orthopaedic procedures, along with the ability to handle high-pressure situations and make informed decisions is essential.
    • Good organizational and time management skills are also necessary.
    • If deemed necessary, an additional assessment on your understanding of basic Orthopaedic principles and competencies will be conducted.

    Duties :

    • The duties will include evaluating and managing patients with Orthopaedic conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings, conducting clinical assessments, diagnosing conditions, and developing treatment plans and performance of surgical procedures under supervision, provide post-operative care, and respond to Orthopaedic emergencies.
    • Clinical administration tasks include maintaining patient records, coordinating care, and participating in ward rounds and meetings.
    • Teaching and mentorship involve supervising junior staff, conducting training sessions, and contributing to educational programs.
    • Participation in research projects, present findings and publish in peer-revied journals.
    • Additionally, they participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and the development of clinical protocols and guidelines

    Nursing Assistant (Erratum on the Number of Posts)

    Requirements :

    • Matric or equivalent. Qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Auxiliary.
    • Registration with SANC as a Nursing Auxiliary and proof of current registration.

    Duties :

    • To provide quality basic nursing care services under the supervision of Enrolled Nurses and Registered Nurses.
    • To nurse patients within the scope of practices as defined by the SANC.
    • To practice nursing care safely and ethically in allocated areas.
    • Demonstrate ability to integrate knowledge, skills and attitude for the care patients.
    • Implement infection control practices and proper medical waste management.

    Diagnostic Radiographer (Ultrasound)

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Ultrasound Radiography.
    • Registration with the HPCSA in Ultrasonography.
    • Degree/ National Diploma in Radiography plus Ultrasound post graduate qualification /Degree in Ultrasound.
    • Current registration with HPCSA for 2024/2025.
    • No experience after registration with HPCSA as an independent Ultrasound Radiographer and after completion of community service.
    • Community Service Ultrasound Radiographers completing their contract on or before 31/12/2024 are encouraged to apply.

    Duties :

    • Prepare exam room and Ultrasound equipment to conduct Ultrasound examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization and patient safety protocols, policies and procedures.
    • Perform ultrasound examination that gives important ultrasound diagnosis.
    • Use ultrasound machine to view interpret images with soundwaves for diagnostic and treatment of medical conditions.
    • Co-ordinate and organize daily workload and smooth running of the department. Must have knowledge of the department functions.
    • Ensure equipment is adequately serviced. High risk Obstetric scanning, abdominal scanning, general body scans and Sound report writing. Attend seminars and workshops to keep up to date with new advance in technique and technology.
    • Monitor stock, maintain adequately weekly, monthly and patients’ statistics.
    • Promote teamwork, interpersonal relationship amongst staff members and other health workers protocols and policies and procedures in line with applicable legislation.
    • Promote Batho Pele principles in the execution of duties for effective service delivery.
    • Examination request form is complete, contains relevant information and meets the standard of medical necessity. Evaluate if patient preparation is adequate before examination.

    Medical Officer

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine. Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Officer.
    • No experience required after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Officer.
    • Knowledge: Experience in medical emergency.
    • Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
    • The following will be added advantage: BLS/ ACLS/ PALS/ ALTS / DipPEC/ Ultrasound courses or equivalent.

    Duties :

    • Evaluation and clinical management of patients referred to the Emergency Department.
    • Perform Commuted Overtime. Clinical training and teaching of undergraduate students.
    • Attending and presenting at academic meetings.
    • Encourage good working relationships between colleagues and departments, Availability for ongoing assessment.
    • Signing annual performance agreements and availability for quarterly reviews.
    • Relevant administration as required including for medico-legal purposes.
