    Occupation Health Practitioner

    Job Description:

    • Reporting to the Group Principal Health, Occupational Medical Practitioner provides subject matter expertise and best practice guidance on occupational health management (i.e. occupational hygiene and occupational medicine) to the De Beers Group of Companies.  The role is involved with assisting with Occupational Health management of policies, standards, processes and management systems to facilitate the delivery of the occupational elements of the De Beers S&SD strategy and responsible for monitoring and reporting on performance and associated risk management.

    Key responsibilities: 

    • Monitor and report on occupational health performance to different stakeholders.
    • Provide subject matter and expert input into the S&SD strategy, policy, standards, processes and targets.
    • Review, Develop and communicate Disease Management program.
    • Provide on site Occupational Health and Hygiene program.
    • Engage with key stakeholders within the appropriate governance framework.
    • Conduct Level 3-5 health incident Reviews.
    • Conduct best practice identification and broad scanning activities including legislative developments.
    • Provide expert leadership for De Beers on strategic occupational health issues and management of high-level occupational health risks.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree qualification in occupational health / occupational hygiene / community health or a relevant Science degree acceptable for membership of a professional institution such as ICOH, IOHA, etc.
    • Post graduate degree in related area and/or a business related management qualification would be preferential.

    Essential experience: 

    • Occupational health working experience in a large corporate.
    • At least 7 years of experience in an Occupational health related role, of which at least 5 years in either consultancy or industry.
    • Operational experience gained from one or more of the following sectors: mining, oil and gas, utilities; construction; logistics, power generation or heavy industrial production.

    Mechanical Engineer

    Job Description:
    Key Tasks

    • Concept generation of mechanical systems – use relevant tools and techniques for generating and communicating concepts of proposed mechanical solutions to team members and stakeholders.
    • Create technical specifications of end-products – produce appropriate technical specifications based upon required criteria of system/product (ie process, environmental, financial, safety). Specify suitable components and systems (procured or manufactured) as required.
    • Generate CAD models of designs, along with associated part, and assembly, drawings – use 3D CAD package (such as Creo) to model parts and assemblies of mechanical systems, displaying good-practice modelling principles.
    • Use relevant prototyping, manufacturing methodologies, and material selection to test, build, and validate designs – build and test designs, using relevant prototyping/manufacturing techniques to validate applicability. Create and lead experiments, where suitable, providing recommendations for end-product.
    • Adhere to relevant safety and environmental standards of systems and sub-systems – develop products that satisfy internal company standards and meet required safety and environmental standards (such as ISO 18001, ISO 14001)
    • Ensure work is documented to a high-standard – document designs, experiments, user manuals, safety documentation, to a high-standard for various stakeholders (management, team members, end users etc)
    • Identify and communicate areas of risk from a mechanical standpoint – highlight development risks that have impact to technical, financial, and schedule deliveries

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum: BEng/BSc in mechanical, or related, engineering discipline
    • Preferred: MSc/MEng in a Mechanical engineering discipline
    • Demonstrable experience of mechanical design

    Experience/Skills

    • Experience of product development lifecycle (cradle to grave)
    • Experience of developing complex mechanical systems for high-precision products
    • Experience of integrated electro-mechanical systems, high speed mechanics and special purpose machinery
    • Designing for compliance to global standards (i.e. safety and environmental standards)
    • 3D Computer Aided Design (solid modelling, surface modelling, assemblies, drawings), ideally Creo.
    • WindChill or similar
    • Agile Development Principles
    • Rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, SLA, SLS, etc)
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent teamwork
    • Self-driven and ability to consistently deliver on time and to specification

    Principal Mechanical Engineer

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Undertake feasibility studies and appropriate research required to support new and existing projects.
    • Under the guidance of the Technology Incubation Lead and the Product Group Manager – Identify & Classify Rough, works closely with a number of customers to develop the requirements and relevant approach.  
    • In collaboration with the Technical Standards & QA Manager, develop and manage the systems, processes and structures (including communities of practice) to ensure the development, overall health and quality assurance of the technical discipline as it relates to Mechanical Design/Engineering techniques and technology.
    • Lead and manage a team of Mechanical Design/Engineering professionals within the I&CR Product Group, providing mentorship and technical leadership for Mechanical Designers/Engineers in other product groups
    • Assist in the identification and recruitment of technical permanent and/or subcontract Mechanical Design/Engineering staff, including to conduct interviews, hire and train new Mechanical Design/Engineering staff
    • Produce detailed designs of whole modules and machine systems which can later be passed to support staff for detailing and documentation for rough diamond Identification and classification machines and instruments
    • Under the guidance of the Technology Incubation Lead and the I&CR Product Group Manager, work closely with business representatives and customers to ensure product developments meet business requirements
    • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary product development team to develop products that meet business requirements
    • Ensures that developed products (across the Incubation function) are tested and verified against Mechanical Design/Engineering specific requirements and performance specifications
    • In collaboration with the Technical Standards & QA Manager, ensures work is documented and stored according to departmental standards.
    • Sets up and coordinates the Mechanical Engineering Community of Practice
    • Conduct relevant research to ensure work and developed products use latest, most efficient and relevant technologies available to meet the business requirements
    • Maintains contact with commercial manufacturers and suppliers to monitor relevant technology and software.
    • Participates in peer reviews on projects and ensure department design standards and quality are maintained.
    • Organizes and gives training to the customer, manufacturing staff and service engineers when required to do so
    • In collaboration with Commercial Technology, visits end user sites for installation and continuing support of equipment.
    • Supports other designers in the Mechanical Design/Engineering Community of Practice in promoting standardization of techniques, software and equipment.
    • Keeps up to date with advancing techniques/technology in the Mechanical Design/Engineering field.
    • As an individual ensure own working environment and practices comply with De Beers policy guidelines in relation to Health, Safety and the Environment.
    • Where required, directs the work on a product development project in accordance with the Ignite Product Development approach and methodology.

    Qualifications:

    • An Honours degree in an engineering discipline.
    • A Masters degree is preferred.

    Knowledge and Experience:

    • Proven management or supervisory experience, management training would be an advantage.
    • Significant experience in a design environment with a proven track record.
    • Highly effective leadership and organization skills.
    • Good communication, negotiating, team building and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience of integrated electro-mechanical systems, high speed mechanics and special purpose machinery

    Test Facility Team Leader

    Job Description:

    • You will be responsible for supervising and developing the capacity of team members, whilst maintaining and supporting quality, safety, health and environmental factors. 

    Your role will:

    • Supervise the activities and performance of the Test Facility Operators and Assistants.
    • Execute and oversee maintenance and/or repair of Test Facility equipment and machinery as per SAP PMO’s.
    • Monitor facility to ensure reliability and availability for testing.
    • Implement and manage approved facility enhancements as communicated by R&D Facility Engineer.
