    Head of Department

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry or a recognized Sub-Speciality. HPCSA registration as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry or in a recognized Sub-Speciality.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry or in a recognized Sub-Speciality. Knowledge and Skills: Strategic capability and leadership skills. Service delivery innovation. People management and empowerment skills.
    • Advanced clinical and teaching experience. Knowledge of health systems, public service and prescribed legislation.
    • The following will be an added advantage: A minimum of 7 years ‘experience as a registered Psychiatrist.
    • Experience in Management of a unit/ department. A PhD.

    Duties :

    • Manage all academic and clinical activities within the Department of Psychiatry. Provide expert knowledge to aid diagnosis, management and treatment of patients. Coordinate the ongoing delivery of undergraduate and post graduate teaching in Psychiatry, including supervision of Registrar MMed projects.
    • Set norms and standards and promote the maintenance of service delivery and quality outputs in the department. Formulate and manage protocols with Gauteng DoH policies that will have a positive impact on service delivery.
    • Manage the PMDS of consultants, registrars etc. Provide measures and guidance on quality assurance at CMJAH and the cluster. Provide academic leadership as a joint appointee with University of the Witwatersrand and assist in strengthening the relationship between the university and GDoH.
    • Develop the academic career paths of all joint staff, including enhancing research output and training in medical education for all individuals.

    Medical Specialist - Anaesthesia

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia. Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialty in Anaesthesia and current registration.

    Duties :

    Medical Specialist - Radiation Oncology

    Requirements :

    Duties :

    • The candidate will be expected to render full spectrum of Radiation Oncology services at the Department of radiation Oncology.     • To assist with patient backlogs in treatment and to ensure effective delivery of radiation therapy in a safe, evidence based, ethical way considering health economics.

    • Oversee the work of registrars to ensure adequate service delivery from them. To also assist with the teaching program in the department of Radiation Oncology, including attendance and participation in academic meetings, providing supervision and informal and formal teaching to registrars.
    • Research is encouraged, and it is expected that the successful candidate will be involved in their own clinical research, as well as aiding and supervising registrars on their MMeds.
    • Performance of after-hours Radiation Oncology clinical services including in the wards and the assessment and treatment of Radiation Oncology emergencies.

    Medical Specialist - Cardiothoracic Surgery

    Requirements :

    • Knowledge and Skills: Sound clinical knowledge and skills in Internal Medicine and Clinical Cardiology.

The following will be added advantage: The ideal candidate must be a highly skilled and experienced cardiothoracic surgeon with a strong background in performing complex surgeries involving the heart, lungs oesophagus, and other organs within the chest, such as the trachea.

    Duties :

    • General: Strict observation of reporting lines. Clinical: Expected to work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care. Perform a wide range of cardiothoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair/replacement, and lung resections. Additional skills, such as minimally invasive techniques and aspects of transplantation, would be an added advantage.
    • Collaborate with cardiologists, pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans. Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient care, including consultations, follow-ups, and management of complications.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and guidelines. Oversee impeccable record-keeping in the Division and regular clinical audits.

Other clinical duties will include managing patients at OPD, managing patients attending the Subspecialty OPD or Speciality Ward Consultations within a relevant Sub-specialty.
    • Perform endoscopy and endoscopic interventions without supervision. Possess the skill and knowledge required to manage a wide variety of cardiology conditions including interventional cardiology like catheter based valve treatmenet, pacemaker and coronary artery care. Function in a multi-disciplinary team. Provide supervision for junior and nursing staff.
