    Analyst: Probabilistic Safety Assessment (Level 3) X1

    Job description

    • To review and assess the adequacy and effectiveness of off-site deterministic and probabilistic risk assessments (Level 3) for facilities regulated by the NNR, and carry out technical assessment, and provide the necessary infrastructural support for the effective regulation of nuclear and radiation safety.

    Minimum requirements

    • NQF level 7 in Natural Sciences (Physics), Radiation Sciences or Nuclear Engineering
    • Minimum of 3 years regulatory experience or relevant industry experience 
    • Safety assessment and radiation protection knowledge for Nuclear Facilities
    • Off-site Radiological consequence analysis and consequence software codes knowledge

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Conduct review and assessment of safety case submission for new and/or existing nuclear facilities
    • Development of reports and recommendations for review by management
    • Provide scientific and technical services necessary to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of deterministic and probabilistic risk assessments (level 3) and radiological Off-site consequence analysis for facilities regulated by the NNR
    • Review applicable regulatory standards, authorisations, atmospheric dispersion modelling, radiological consequence assessments and probabilistic risk assessments
    • Identifying sources of technical information related to the specific discipline and relevant work to the NNR
    • Participate in internal and external forums for standards development
    • Participate in various internal teams that may be formed for a particular project
    • Responsible for limited project in relation to Radiation Protection and Environmental safety assessment.
    • Participating in liaison activities for the specific disciplines
    • Represent team in meeting with internal stakeholders
    • Participate the development of regulatory standards, practices and guides
    • Participate in broader NNR work as required, e.g. emergency exercises

    Analyst: Radiation Protection X1

    Job description

    • To carry out technical assessment, authorisation and compliance assurance functions, participate in projects and in standards development and provide the necessary infrastructural support for the effective regulation of safety, including nuclear, waste, radiation and transport safety.

    Minimum requirements

    • NQF level 7 in Natural Sciences (Physics), Radiation Sciences or Nuclear Engineering
    • Minimum of 3 years regulatory experience or relevant industry experience 
    • Safety assessment and radiation protection knowledge for Nuclear Facilities

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Perform review and assessments applicable to the Radiation Protection and Environment area.
    • Perform ERP assessments in accordance with systems complexity and the need to ensure the best possible expertise is applied to such assessments.
    • Participate in national and international forums as assigned.
    • Responsible for limited project execution in relation to Radiation Protection and Environmental safety assessment.
    • Involved in short term planning and participation on multiple projects including status tracking.
    • Generally self-supervising within guidance and expectations of Manager.
    • Identifies problems and recommend appropriate solutions on ERP related activities.
    • Represent ERP team in meeting with internal stakeholders.
    • Create input into the development of regulatory standards, practices and guides.
    • Participate in other NNR work outside departmental as required, e.g. emergency exercises, etc.

    Job description

    Requirements

    • Grade 12
    • Completed NQF level 6 in Business Administration/Management or Public Administration/Management
    • No work experience, graduates in search of internship to gain experience
    • Not have participated previously in an internship/learnership programme
    • Be a South African citizen

    Skills Development and Training focus area

    • Assist with the development of the organisation Strategic Plans and Annual Performance Plans according to the relevant Frameworks and Guidelines
    • Assist development of Annual Operational Plans according to the relevant Frameworks and Guidelines
    • Dissemination of plans to relevant stakeholders as per compliance schedule
    • Assist with the development of Annual Operational Plans
    • Assist with compilation of Organisation Performance reports
    • Assist with the dissemination of organisational performance reports to relevant stakeholders
    • Assist with the management of performance information (Portfolio of Evidence) for audit purposes
    • Assist with verifying of POE to ensure accuracy of reported performance information
