    Flexographic Printer Assistant

    Introduction

    • Novus Print: Montague Gardens is seeking an experienced Flexographic Printer Assistant to join our Production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Flexographic Printer with the efficient and safe operation of flexographic printing machinery, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and workplace safety requirements are consistently achieved and report the Shift Leader.

    Job description

    • Assist the Flexographic Printer with setting up and preparing the printing machine.
    • Assist with loading and unloading reels, substrates, inks, plates, and other materials.
    • Help prepare printing cylinders, plates, anilox rolls, and other machine components.
    • Assist with machine changeovers and cleaning between jobs.
    • Monitor the machine during production and report abnormalities to the Operator.
    • Assist with starting, stopping, and adjusting equipment under the Printers's direction.
    • Prepare raw materials according to production requirements.
    • Check that the correct substrate, ink, labels, packaging materials, and job specifications are being used.
    • Move materials safely using appropriate equipment.
    • Maintain accurate identification and segregation of materials.
    • Minimise material wastage and report excessive waste to the Printer or Supervisor
    • Inspect printed material for defects such as colour variation, registration problems, smudging, streaking, poor print quality, or incorrect information.
    • Assist with maintaining consistent print quality throughout the production run.
    • Ensure finished products meet the required customer and company specification.

    Minimum requirements

    • Matric/Equivalent
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience as flexographic printer assistant or in a similar printing or packaging environment. 
    • Sound knowledge of the complete flexographic print production process.
    • Experience with water-based, solvent-based, or UV inks will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of print registration, colour management, ink viscosity, anilox rolls, doctor blade systems, and print quality standards

    Blown Film Co-Extruder Operator - ITB

    Introduction

    • ITB, a division of Novus Holdings, is seeking to appoint a Blown Film Co-Extruder Operator to ensure that the co-extrusion process consistently produces blown-film products that conform to approved product specifications, customer requirements, process standards and the company Quality Management System (QMS). The position is responsible for the effective operation, monitoring and control of the co-extrusion line, including the preparation and feeding of polymer materials, extrusion of individual polymer layers, melt-temperature and pressure control, layer-ratio management, die and air-ring operation, bubble stability, film thickness and width control, cooling, haul-off and winding.

    We are

    • Setting up of the blown film co-extruders in accordance with the Job card requirements and guidelines as specified in the Extrusion Start-up and procedures and machine sheets.
    • Inspect and record quality at the beginning and throughout the shift
    • Use co-extrusion trouble -shooting guide when discrepancies are detected.
    • Constantly monitor width, colour and clarity to avoid out of spec situation
    • Provide sample to QA for inspection at the end of every roll
    • Remove all out of spec rolls from production and flag it.
    • Complete identification ticket for every roll should the job require further processing and insert it thereon.
    • Inspect pallets for conformance in conjunction with QAT.
    • Regularly check production status of each job to efficiently change jobs on completion of an order.
    • Operator to ensure housekeeping is maintained and machine is always kept clean.
    • To continuously perform trouble shooting on machines whenever necessary.

    Minimum requirements

    • Have completed Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent
    • Must have a good knowledge of how a blown film co-extruder works.
    • Ability to adjust, calibrate and test equipment at the beginning of every shift to ensure pressure, speed, temperature, and general operation.
    • Ability to start up and set up blown film co-extruder.
    • Ability to calculate weight per metre on given film sizes and micron.
    • Ability to gauge temperature for processing different categories of polymers.
    • Ability to calculate BUR on given diameter and film size.
    • Ability to calculate DDR on given BUR, die gap and micron.
    • Ability to calculate weight on given LD, LLD percentages and the weight of the total mix.
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001: 2015 Quality standards.
    • At least 4 years’ experience in the plastic industry (packaging).
    • At least 2 years’ experience as a Co-Extruder operator.
    • Certificate in Blown Film an added advantage.

    Flexographic/Bag Machine Operator

    Introduction

    • Novus Print: Paarden Eiland is seeking to permanently appoint an experienced and skilled Flexographic/Bag Machine Operator within the Operations department to operate the Nova Flexo Machine The successful incumbent will report to the Duty Manager.

    Job description

    • Set up and operate the Nova Flexographic printing/bag-making machine according to job specifications. 
    • Prepare the machine for production, including loading substrates, inks and print components. 
    • Set and maintain print registration, print position, tension and colour consistency. 
    • Monitor the printing and bag-making process throughout production. 
    • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure bags meet the required specifications. 
    • Identify and correct print and machine-related defects. 
    • Make machine adjustments to maintain optimal production and minimise waste. 
    • Monitor ink levels, viscosity and colour during production. 
    • Assist with plate/stereo changes, reel changes and job changeovers. 
    • Ensure correct job specifications and materials are used. 
    • Complete production and quality-control documentation accurately. 
    • Perform basic machine cleaning and routine maintenance. 
    • Identify machine faults and report technical problems to the relevant supervisor or maintenance team. 
    • Maintain good housekeeping and ensure the work area is clean and safe. 
    • Follow all company SOPs, health and safety requirements and quality standards. 
    • Achieve daily production, efficiency and waste targets.

    Minimum requirements

    • Matric/Equivalent
    • Minimum of 3—5 Years experience operating a flexographic printing or bag making machine
    • Experience in a flexible packaging, paper bag or printing environment will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of flexographic printing processes, inks, substrates and print registration
    • Previous experience operating a Nova Flexo machine would be highly advantageous.

    Senior Lithography Web Offset Printer

    • Novus Print: Montague Gardens is currently seeking to permanently appoint an individual, with knowledge and experience in an FMCG printing environment to take on the role of a Senior Lithography Web Offset Printer. The successful candidate will report directly to the Shift Leader in the Press department.

    Job description

    • To check and report defects spotted during initial start of production cycles of both printing and binding
    • Analyse, coordinate, and organize Press Web Offset operations and procedures to ensure the safe, efficient and timely delivery of all Press Web Offset commitments 
    • Establish and maintain contingency plans in cases where machine/safety operations or deadlines may be in jeopardy  
    • Evaluate Press Web Offset production, revise procedures, recommend procedure changes and continuously review established procedures to improve efficiency of workflow, safety and equipment reliability
    • Oversee the quality control, quality assurance and waste control functions
    • Ensure physical plant cleanliness is maintained at all times within the Press Web Offset and warehouse area
    • Ensure inventory of consumable products and critical spare parts are maintained at sufficient levels at all times to prevent interruptions in production or services
    • Ensure Press Web Offset compliance at all times with all company programs, policies and procedures
    • Assist assigned personnel in the completion of necessary work as needed

    Minimum requirements

    • A relevant Printing qualification or a trade qualification in Rotary Web-Offset 
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience and expertise in a press web offset environment 
    • At least 2 years’ experience in a same or similar role

    Electronic Technician – ITB

    Introduction

    • We are currently seeking to employ a suitably qualified person with knowledge of the Manufacturing of flexible plastics and packaging to take on this challenging role of an Electronic Technician. The incumbent will report to the Maintenance Manager, and this position is based at ITB Plastics factory in Isithebe.

    Job description

    • Experience in a flexible plastic packaging industry is highly advantageous.
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electronic and electrical control faults on production machinery and associated equipment.
    • Maintain, fault-find and support PLC, HMI, industrial drive, VSD, SSD, inverter, instrumentation and machine control systems.
    • Install, configure, parameterise, and commission industrial drives and electronic control equipment across various platforms.
    • Identify recurring equipment failures, conduct root-cause analysis and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Read and interpret electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control-system drawings.
    • Conduct functional testing and diagnostic measurements on electronic equipment, control circuits, sensors, instrumentation and associated systems.
    • Calibrate equipment where required and ensure equipment operates within specified tolerances.
    • Maintain appropriate backups of drive parameters, PLC/HMI programs, configurations and other critical electronic system information.
    • Coordinate electronic equipment repairs with approved external service providers and OEMs, including technical assessment, repair verification and recommissioning.
    • Support the development and maintenance of critical electronic spares based on equipment criticality, failure frequency, replacement cost, availability, lead time and production impact.
    • Participate in planned and routine maintenance activities relating to electronic and control equipment.
    • Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability, OEE
    • Maintain appropriate technical records and provide clear fault-finding and repair reports.
    • Ensure compliance with company health and safety requirements, lockout procedures, quality systems and food-packaging safety requirements.

    Minimum requirements

    • Matric or equivalent.
    • N6 or B-Tech Degree in Electronics or Electrical (Core subject Electronics).
    • Trade test in Instrumentation or Electrical.
    • 3-5 years’ experience within a similar capacity.
    • Experience in a flexible plastic packaging industry is highly advantageous.
    • Strong practical knowledge of industrial electronics, automation and machine control systems.
    • Strong practical knowledge of industrial drives, including installation, programming, commissioning, diagnostics and advanced fault-finding across various drive platforms.
    • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, VSDs, SSDs, inverters, instrumentation, sensors, encoders and associated control systems.
    • Experience with Siemens, Lenze, Delta or similar industrial automation and drive platforms would be advantageous.
    • Strong analytical and systematic fault-finding ability with the ability to identify root causes rather than only addressing symptoms.
    • Ability to interpret electrical/electronic drawings and understand machine control sequences and interlocks.
    • Ability to work effectively with OEMs, specialist electronic repair companies and other technical service providers.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical fault and repair reports.
    • Ability to work independently as well as effectively within the maintenance and production teams.
    • Ability to prioritise multiple technical issues and work effectively under production pressure.
    • Experience within extrusion, flexographic printing, lamination, slitting, bagmaking or similar continuous manufacturing environments would be advantageous.
    • Prepared to provide shift, weekend, overtime and standby support when required.
