    Instrument Mechanician

    As an Instrument Mechanician, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintain plant instrumentation in good working condition by completing scheduled maintenance as per SAP works order
    • Perform all required calibrations according to the standard work instructions and fill in the calibration sheets
    • Maintain a good knowledge of field instruments, instrumentation drawings, plant layout, plant process, and availability of procedures to allow for quick and accurate fault finding
    • Adhere to conditions of employment by performing standby, overtime, and shift work when required
    • Complete instrument installation and modification required according to the set standards
    • Update and maintain SAP Notifications of work orders by capturing failure codes and repair codes on the notification and completing the order once work is completed
    • Complete plant inspections in his or her area reports and rectify faults found
    • Assist the E&I Superintendent in the skills development of apprentices and trainees

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12 with an N3 Engineering 
    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as an Instrument Mechanician
    • 2 years post apprenticeship experience in a heavy industry environment will be advantageous

    Machinist / Turner

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work safely and ensure full compliance with SHEQ standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Participate in incident investigations and contribute to root cause analysis.
    • Plan, allocate, and oversee workshop activities, stepping in for the foreman when required.
    • Manage timekeeping, documentation, purchase requisitions, and liaise with suppliers/customers.
    • Operate machining equipment (lathe, milling, shaper, boring mill, saws) to manufacture and repair components.
    • Perform specialized machining, including shafts, bushes, flanges, gearbox parts, slots, and keyways.
    • Repair and maintain rolls and plant equipment, assisting in troubleshooting breakdowns.
    • Ensure precision and quality through accurate measurement checks against specifications.

    What are we looking for? 

    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter and Turner.
    • Grade 12 with Mathematics & Science or N3 Engineering qualification.
    • 5+ years’ machining/turning experience in a heavy engineering environment.
    • Valid driver’s licence.

    Instrument Mechanician - Ngodwana

    As an Instrumentation Mechanician, your role includes:

    • Installing, commissioning, modifying, and maintaining instrument installations and DCS equipment to meet Engineering and Production standards.
    • Optimizes Process Controls: Optimizes process control systems (DCS) through loop tuning and fault-finding to ensure performance requirements are met.
    • Repairs and Replaces Instruments: Removes, cleans, repairs, and replaces defective instruments using appropriate hand tools.
    • Assembles and Calibrates: Reassembles instruments and calibrates readings to ensure accurate function according to standards.
    • Maintains Records: Records calibrations, parts used, and maintains inventory of spare parts.
    • Creates Documentation: Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to document changes made to instruments, circuits, and systems.
    • Supports Team Efforts: Performs assigned duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
    • Promotes Safety and Compliance: Understands and adheres to Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) requirements, investigates incidents, identifies root causes of non-conformances, and maintains workplace cleanliness.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • Recognized Instrumentation Trade Certificate accredited by Manpower or SETA.
    • Preferably, a minimum of 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience, with a strong emphasis on instrumentation fault finding within an industrial setting.

    Superintendent: Instrumentation (Recovery)

    As a Superintendent: Instrumentation, you will be responsible for:

    • Facilitate daily meetings with the team to plan, manage, and delegate work
    • Plan and ensure timeous procurement of spares
    • Track all labour hire timekeeping and authorize before submitting to the engineer for payment
    • Manage contractors and all resources during shutdowns
    • Manage artisan standby roster and ensure personnel are available for standby
    • Manage safety within the section by completing PPE and toolbox inspections, actively participating in the SHEQ process, and participating in SHEQ Audits
    • Ensure that all maintenance work is done and managed in support of the factory maintenance strategy.
    • Meet with the engineer daily to ensure priorities are set for the day and week
    • Deploy labour to attend to breakdowns
    • Manage workshop budget for consumables
    • Complete on-site inspections to monitor progress of jobs and standard adherence
    • Perform inspections on jobs to ensure quality work is completed
    • Ensure that the Plant modification system is adhered to when requested to effect any changes to plant or machinery
    • Ensure that housekeeping in workshops and oil stores is maintained
    • Manage Calibration equipment, specialist tools, and consumables store
    • Ensure that all procurement is done in accordance with company policies (quotes, etc.)
    • Overinspect all work done by contractors to ensure quality and value
    • Participate in Root Cause Analysis sessions as and when required
    • Complete overtime and standby as required
    • Ensure that all SAP administration is maintained as per the roles and responsibilities matrix, and ensure office administration is maintained and kept up to date
    • Implement Preventitive Maintenace Stategies to increase Uptime of plants
    • High level Instrumentation DCS System Support (Profinet/Profibus/Hart)
    • Effective Shutdown Planning
    • Ensure Critical spares stock is maintained on SAP to mitigate plant risks

    What are we looking for?

    • NQF level 4 qualification (Grade 12/N3) with a recognised trade test certificate
    • 5 years post-trade test experience within a heavy industry environment
    • Supervisory experience as well as experience on SAP will be considered advantageous

    Production Foreman - Mandeni

    As a Production Foreman: Paper, you will be responsible to:

    • Leads a Shift based team assigned to his/her plant
    • Participates in relevant forums to facilitate effective communication. MDT, SHEQ, etc.
    • Recommends maintenance/upgrade/replacement of existing equipment to optimize production efficiency
    • Plans the plant operations to ensure the maximum utilization of the resources (raw materials, energy, people).
    • Manages the execution of production activities (shuts, start-ups, checks, log sheets, graph trends, resources) to sustain quality standards and plant efficiency.
    • Assess staff against Position Profile & coaches/mentors team members
    • Ensures on-the-job and off-the-job training activities
    • Monitors and adjusts employee role and responsibility
    • Evaluates and directs performance of team and team members against goals and standards of conduct to ensure maximum performance
    • Understands the SHEQ requirements of the Section
    •  Monitor subordinate’s performance against SHEQ requirements and corrects non-conformances
    • Investigates incidents (SHEQ) and identify root causes of Non-conformances and corrects deviations
    • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all time
    • Controls annual fixed cost, overtime and manpower budgets within his sphere of influence.
    • Communicates with the internal and external suppliers / customers
    • Responds to the customer feedback and takes corrective action if required 

    What are we looking for?

    Relevant Qualifications & Experience

    • Matric and Full N4 Pulpmaking and/or
    • Papermaking and/or NQF Level 5 Qualification

    Minimum Experience

    • Minimum 3 years’ Plant Operations Experience
    • 2 Years’ Supervisory experience

    Occupational Health

    • Monitor employee health, implement remedial actions, and correct deviations.
    • Ensure compliance with legal requirements relating to occupational health and safety.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma/Degree in Nursing
    • Diploma in Occupational Health
    • Registered Audiometrist
    • Certificate in Spirometry
    • Dispensing Certificate
    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and the South African Society for Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN)
    • Code EB driver’s licence (manual)
    • At least 3 years’ experience in the Occupational Health field
    • HCT (Health Care Initiated Testing) training

    Boiler and Turbine Specialist 1

    As a Boiler and Turbine Specialist, you will be responsible to:

    • Review critical performance parameters on a daily basis, actioning any deviations from specifications and keeping a historical account of operating parameters, monitoring  for long term potential deviations
    • Optimise the performance of turbine generators and boilers and produce monthly reports on unit performances
    • Address operating parameters out of specification through technical adjustments
    • Manage and develop long term strategies for boiler life extensions
    • Review and inspect the operating units  for efficient functionality addressing any potential risks to uninterrupted runability
    • Identify improvement opportunities and coordinate trial initiatives
    • Manage and support mills with annual shutdowns and boiler maintenance requirements as well as service level agreements with suppliers

    • Develop best operating practices for boiler and componant optimisation for development and sustainability

    What are we looking for?

    • BSc Chemical /Mechanical / Electrical Engineering would be considered advantageous while other relevant qualifications will also be considered
    • 10 years of Process engineering experience in specific relation to combustion with a minimum of 5 years’ engineering experience in Energy networks, Turbines, Boilers and or Environmental management.
    • Potential candidates should possess a good understanding of boiler maintenance with strong operational experience to optimise boiler efficiency
